  1. Very much agree....
  2. If he did, I heard Tyrod is looking....
  3. NRC got benched last year. Some relevant stats Edleman vs Bills: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/E/EdelJu00/gamelog/?opp_id=buf Gronk vs. Bills: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GronRo00/gamelog/?opp_id=buf Landry vs. Bills http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LandJa00/gamelog/?opp_id=buf Decker vs. Bills http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DeckEr00/gamelog/?opp_id=buf He was great in hand to hand combat and one on one coverage and a really good playmaker....but he left us exposed a lot. McDermott is a Johnson disciple -- get pressure quickly with the front 7 so corners don't have to cover long. He likes taller corners. I loved Robey but this is $1.5M in cap room the Bills can really use. Carp was great 2 years ago -- automatic. But the last two years have been tough. These aren't bad decisions in my opinion.
  4. You can try to compare this on a scale of atrocity to Richie or any other comeback story, but the realistic part of this is Carolina didn't want much to do with Hardy at the end of the 2014 season even when there were still questions about his status and before the video of his victim. Coach McDermott was likely part of the decision on this and likely knows more details than what has been published. I just don't think its a realistic redemption scenario. I also believe Kim Pegula would probably nix this before it was even a consideration. Richie had some minor incidents with women. During his day in Boca in early 2015 before he was signed...I wonder what the conversation was.....
  5. Thanks Kirby--sorry I missed that one....you would think there would be no leverage with this short 2 day timeframe. With the cupboard becoming bare of FA QBs, if there are several teams wanting him it makes sense to field offers this week; see what you got and then make the decision whether to pick up the option; pick up the option and trade or decline the option...Interesting little game of poker...or liars poker.
  6. Just fact checking something... If the Bills pick up Tyrod's option -- is this cap hit correct? http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/tyrod-taylor-7899/ Because the bonuses are option bonuses -- is it only a $2.8 million cap hit if he is traded after the Bills pick up the option. Or does the option bonus turn into a signing bonus and the cap hit is more like $15 million? Sorry if I am just realizing this...
  7. First day on board...a Sabres win! Good sign.....
  8. We are all bound by our love for what has become a perpetually lousy NFL football team--but just wait until next year!!!! Thanks to the light touch and great admin skills of SDS and our moderators, we have a great forum. We are also a big, mostly functional family. There are some really thoughtful frequent posters here. I know I get out of this forum far more than I contribute. I hope you all enjoy this place. Its a Bills fan's best home... Disappointed that the Bills would take away the official forum - but I have a feeling this place just gained some great folks...welcome....
  9. Welcome bbmb.com refugees If you were born in Boston, Miami or New York we're going to need to see a long form birth certificate. Also, raise your right hand..and repeat after me.. I (state your name) do solemnly swear that I am a rabid Bills fan with thoughtful opinions and patience I see my keyboard as a fount of knowledge and understand that every post is a reflection on my person I agree to go easy on the personal attacks and only use fake news when it supports my opinion Before God and the Pegulas and our founder, SDS, I swear to abide by this code..
  10. Dwight Freeney played for $1 million last year.....Lorax is old...the 13 sack season was an anomaly or will be viewed that way by most teams. But all it takes is one..
  11. $5-10 million a year is an agents pipe dream. God bless him if he gets it. You take elite special teams money @ about $1.5 million a year and then add on situational pass rusher money at about another $1.2 million and you add a good leader 10% bonus and you get $3 million a year on a two year deal. $2.5 million up front, $1 million base year one, $2.5 million base year 2. Love the man-- but don't overpay.
  12. McDermott is a disciple of the process. Let the process unfold. Its a detailed process. Don't question the process. I actually like the fact that the Bills go from chaos to process. Maybe that means 11 men on the field at all times..you know small gains.
  13. That would be an L...and the Bills had the ball first in OT -- he drove us to FG range but then Carp missed and he had another chance in OT but the Dolphins won. He was clutch on the final drive in regulation -- but couldn't deliver in OT when a touchdown closes it out and then on the second drive when a FG closes it out. But you believe what you want, right? I love the guy. I want him to succeed but the evidence is that he can't perform when the game is on the line against a good, playoff caliber team. His percentage in these situations is below the proverbial Mendoza line...that's not good for a football teams playoff hopes...ever.
  14. Really depends on the scope of the commitment to me. I keep forgetting that we had less than a 1/4 Sammy last year--even when he was out there -- there wasn't the impact or the need for the opponent to game plan to him. That makes the running game success even more amazing. I am happy for Tyrod ---who seems like a really, really wonderful individual. I just wish we had one or two late game successes against a good team to point to that show me he can win in the clutch. So the Bills need another receiver, the line needs to show it can zone block, Dennison and Castillo need to adjust play calling to Shady's running style, Culley needs to watch a lot of film with Tyrod and teach him how to pre-snap read a little better and getting his footwork right under pressure and on the run. It could be worse...but the good news is the coaches think enough of Tyrod to stake their regime start on him.
  15. and that is the contra my friend. If the team leaders think we are close -- we keep Shady, probably Taylor and hope a new D system improves the team. I want nothing more than short term gains...but I am jaded and suspicious right now, particularly after watching this team against playoff teams last year. I think we rank somewhere around number 10 in the AFC and that means a different path. Here's hoping a year from now -- you are right. I hope you are right and I am wrong John...
  16. I think the Pegulas are serious about winning a championship and know they are not close with the team as currently structured. The Bills will suck for the next two years. They will suck with or without Shady, they will suck with or without Kyle Williams and Eric Wood. Chances are all three of these will miss 5+ games over the next two years, maybe more. Rex basically ruined a cycle where they could compete for the playoffs where aging vets like Wood and Williams meshed with younger players. The defensive genius ruined a damn talented defense. So if we are going to suck, I'd rather 4-12 suck than 7-9 suck if it means we are picking early in each round for the next couple of years and have cap room to maneuver. The Pegulas will be patient with McDermott because they already look like fools for hiring the fools gold that is Rex Ryan -- they really can't go down the foolish scale much more. The fans will stay -- because face it we have nothing else to do...and we are a loyal bunch, particularly if we see progress. We are the safest fan base in the league just glad to have a team. Again--my opinion-- but the Bills are facing 2 or 3 years of suck--they can humor us by winning 7 games and making the fans think the playoffs are within reach or the Bills can give themselves some room to reload. The point of this thread is does an instagram rumor and someone's "inside" information mean Shady will be gone. My point is -- cut him, let him finish his career with a winner and let's begin to rebuild. I have had enough of Brandon's year to year slogans and marketing and selling false hope....lets build a football team and let McDermott do it...
  17. The poster said keep him for one more year...what's not destructive about that....the destructive thing is 17 years of year to year thinking instead of longer term. This is the perfect time to do something like this...Rookie head coach who ownership seems committed to.
  18. So you would rather have Shady for one year then Zach Brown or Stephen Gilmore for 5? Or a Free Agent LB or WR for 5? That's essentially the decision.
  19. It saves $5 million in cap this year...that was my point. The Bills aren't nearly as up against the cap next year. You spread the impact. There is no way you get in value this year in a trade for Shady what $5 million in cap this year gets you.
  20. All good points. A trade would be tough because it accelerates the cap hit..its just like cutting him with no post June 1st designation. The post June 1st cut saves $5 million in cap room. It is essentially a trade of Shady for however the Bills can use the $5 million in cap room. The cap room is more valuable than what the Bills would get in return for any trade.
  21. This wouldn't surprise me for few reasons... 1) Dennison's most successful backs are more like Gillislee -- quick hitting slashers. Bills have Gillislee and Jonathan Williams who fit the mold better. Now you give Gillislee a 2nd round tender. 2) Designating this as the old post June 1st cut saves over $6 million not $1 million - now you can cut in March but designate the cut as post June 1st - part of the CBA http://www.thephinsider.com/2015/2/18/8057333/nfl-free-agency-201-post-june-cuts-explanation 3) The draft can yield gems at this position who can contribute right away in later rounds-- like Freeman from TX who fits the style better 4) McDermott has a unique opportunity to blow things up and start over -- he is powerful with the Pegulas. If he and the staff feel that starting over in some areas will help--they will let him. He may be making a conscious choice not to shoot for the short term playoffs but to build a Super Bowl contender. 5) If Shady is cut, this tells me bye-bye Tyrod as well.
  22. Schwing!!!! yep....wow....
  23. I agree with Jay's keep Brandon Tate for vet minimum assessment
  24. Create a most wanted list made up of those individuals who have stolen money from the Pegulas since they took over ownership of the Bills.. 1) Rex Ryan 2) Doug Marrone 3) Mercy Mercy Here Comes Percy Harvin (2 time offender) 4) Now we are into current employees and players....the list may be endless....
  25. Richie set the example -- taking a lot less than he could make elsewhere to stick around. That's the standard now for an aging vet. I could see something like a $3 million signing bonus and base salaries of $2 million per for two years plus incentives to get another $500,000-750,000 a year based on performance.
