He's busy talking to his players...seems like every one we hear from says they have gotten multiple calls. I think that's probably more worthwhile than an exclusive with Mike Rodak...

Tyrod- hasn't shown me he can perform in the clutch with the game on the line. This is 3 or 4 potential W's to L's every season. It hurts because I really like him..but I watched the 4th quarters of the first Miami, Oakland, Pittsburgh games and the throws just weren't timely or accurate in the clutch. I would still be cheering like hell every Sunday if the Bills kept him -- but I would know deep down that the Bills ceiling with Tyrod at the helm is a wild card and a first round loss. Options: Heavy Game Experience: - Romo- He's played in 5 regular season games in the last 2 years. His injuries have been upper body ones. He is a really, really good QB who's time has passed and in many ways he is also not great in clutch. He is almost a sure bet to throw an INT with the game on line. Cutler - will be on the market..again not a clutch performer and fragile. See Romo's last line... Alex Smith - Andy Reid said Friday that Smith is the Chiefs QB next year Josh McCown- now 37 years old, never played a full season Fitz- Will rip your guts out at the wrong time but out of this list if I wanted a 1 year stopgap -- he would be my choice. Promising Potential: If the Bills sign/acquire one of these guys -- they are committing for the next 3-5 years. They are also committing to develop Cardale and have him realistically compete for the job in 2018 or 2019 after spending 2017 as a back-up. AJ McCarron - Worry about arm strength still but a really good game manager and accurate Mike Glennon- Still young. Tall, Rangy, nice arm, accurate. Got killed his first two years in TB. Will likely come fairly cheap. Does not cost a draft pick. Jimmy Garrapolo - there is no way Belichick trades him within the division so not realistic This year's Draft...Watson, Turbisky, Mahomes, Kizer, Kaaya, Webb Bills will need too much help other places to commit the #1 to this. McDermott will want a DT, LB or Box Safety with pick 1 because they are the key to his Defense. If Kizer drops to round 2 -- I hope Bills are all over this. He had a bad year last year..but ND was playing constantly from behind and Kelly didn't mix the passing game as he did in 2015 when Kizer shined (2015 was a mix of west coast slants and deep outs, middle to the TE, etc) 2016 was more one dimensional. He is accurate and sees the field, but when the opposition only has to defend down the field its easier. There is no reason the Bills can't combine Glennon, Jones and Kizer..and what tremendous assets these might offer for rebuilding....It would be nice to be a QB seller at trade time than always having to be a buyer...

How do you know I didn't rescue him from Joan of Arc?....sorry about the typo-- Thanks for the information. You are a kind-hearted and decent human being and very good friend (that's the worst insult I can give you)...

NG..when you have time to think about a way that this TBD part of your family can memoralize Danny in some way let us know. Maybe its a donation to a special fund for an organization that helped him in some way. So many of us on the board have had our lives impacted by a personal battle or a loved one's battle with addiction. I have paid off a crack dealer, raided a heroine user hotel room and other things to rescue a stepson who thankfully seems to be winning his day to day battle. We have proven over the years that this community is more family than a bunch of goof balls arguing about the team they dearly love...if you think of a tangible way to recognize the memory of your son, I would welcome the opportunity to participate.

You honestly look at the preseason games and think that was a regression from the second year at Ohio State?
-
You are correct--I have not talked to Coach McDermott, Culley, Dennison...,you win. I mean no one every does conjecture on an Internet message board, so I apologize if I offended you with my conjecture.

Can he roll back odometers?

Look at his highlight tape from college PD. 1) His feet are seldom planted in the direction of the throw (kind of important)....he had improved on that consistently by preseason and in the Jets game. Footwork is a real key. 2) He hardly ever went through his reads in college--at OSU it was hey is primary open and if not he was on the run. He actually was going through some progressions in the preseason and on a couple of throws in the Jets game. 3) His size and arm are pretty easy to judge... As much as we try to make this rocket science -- its really not. He's rawer than raw -- its pretty easy to see progress from where he started even to the untrained eye. Two other things -- I picked up from highlight tapes.. 1) he's often a back foot thrower and not just in situations where he is under rush. He has a great arm but is really lazy in shifting body weight with the throw. 2) He's got a lot of lazy habits-- weak on play action and carrying out fakes..does decent on the roll out/on the move though. Like I said-- not hard to look at someone who is raw and pick out the obvious things...in no way do I profess to know the finer points -- but I saw progress last year.

Whaley's not going to have much of a sales job with McDermott and Dennison... Cam 6'5" 245 great size, rocket arm, superior mobility, smart football player, very durable Cardale 6'5" 249 great size, rocket arm, good mobility, more athlete than football player, can take hits without being fragile Cardale has the physical tools to be a superman. Dennison and Culley have probably already looked at last years mini-camp, training camp, preseason game, practice and Jets game tape. They see improved footwork throughout the year; improved ball placement throughout the year, the ability to grasp a fairly simple NFL passing system and the courage to throw into any window with literally a rocket arm. That's all they need to see...you keep an asset like Cardale around for at least his rookie contract plus the option year if he works hard and behaves well. He's young. He could be the future. Choosing between Cardale and say Jeff Tuel as a number 3-- there is no choice.

The Buffalo News is an anomaly right now-- as are all the papers under the Berkshire Hathaway umbrella. Just look at Tim Graham's article today on Bjorn Nittmo -- no paper allows that many words and that expense to chase down an issue like concussions and CTE in today's world. No matter how you feel about Graham (I am a fan)-- the guy is talented at telling a story and the News allows him to do it...there are only a few papers left. The good news is the digital world gives papers like this a global market. Berkshire Hathaway has the resources to define that market. -

Thanks my friend...The administrative team at BBBS in Erie County is full of great and dedicated folks. They are always looking for events for their mentors and kids. Its one of those cases where we get more from the donation than what we give. One of my Pats friends asked me if I considered the donation child abuse since it was for Bills games....

In addition to what Promo just wrote--supporting the Bills and now the Pegula ownership...our giveaway is charitable -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County.
