Dear Diary, Here we are four days after I deliver a franchise defining win and Caldwell and Shad have the audacity to bring in a an old freaking fossil to interview for the full-time gig. I feel like a saint and now a martyr. What a damn kick in the teeth. Caldwell is no better than Whaley and Brandon. I will do what I always do. Win the job the right way, with my awesome skills. Just in case, I have already bribed Ginny in the cafeteria to put Exlax in Coughlin's cobb salad and I have called ahead to Shad's favorite restaurant cancelling tonight's reservation. I also went to the parking lot and did the old banana in the tail pipe of Coughlin's town car. Diary, I am so close to victory here I can taste it... St. Doug Interim Head Coach Jacksonville Jaguars

12-28: Media Day - Anthony Lynn's Presser as HC

Poor was a poor choice of words...point was Whaley is clearly in charge now and he needs to take that responsibility -- that's not whining that's leadership.. -

It probably the third Ryan brother Jeff Weeks...who should have been fired yesterday as well... -
12-28: Media Day - Anthony Lynn's Presser as HC
JoeF replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley got what he wanted...now he needs to start acting like he is in charge. He is not teflon man any longer. He has to own everything that happens from yesterday forward with this franchise. That should have started with him addressing the media yesterday instead of rolling out poor Anthony Lynn as team spokesperson. Lynn did a serviceable job given that backdrop. Talking to the fans -- even on the John Murphy show or a Chris Brown softball session-- is an important part of the job. I know he is on the road scouting bowl games (Seniors only apparently) but he is now the face of this franchise and he needs to at least look like he understands the role--not roll out his first day coach to take the hits... -
12-28: Media Day - Anthony Lynn's Presser as HC

We're on to New York......Lynn did fine with this. He could care less about this part of the job -- he's a football coach not interviewing for a media job. -

Bills Announce Whaley to Lead the Head Coaching Search
JoeF replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The one thing that would scare me about TT has nothing to do with ability. I think he's really exciting and skilled....However TT is small. I stood next to him as we looked around the Hockey Performance Center at the Harbor Center Marriott in October. I am 5' 8" tall and weigh 165 -- pretty thin -- he was not that much taller (I would say the listed 6' 1" is generous) or bulkier than me. As a GM I would pay him at the second tier knowing I need a Matt Moore type backup in case he gets crushed. That's why I think Whaley is hesitant..the guy is small and an injury risk. BTW, a really nice person. TT is a very nice young man. My daughter and I happened to be checking out the hotel workout room the Saturday night before the Niners game (same floor as the hockey performance center and the rinks). TT was headed to Bible study with the team Chaplain. We chatted for a few moments about everything but football..more about how much investment the Pegulas have made in downtown Buffalo and how he likes the city. -

Bills Announce Whaley to Lead the Head Coaching Search

This is as it should be. The GM should be all in with the new coach and the Pegulas should accept his recommendation. The current Bills GM should get a pass for every coach performance under his tenure because he was never the true decision maker. I could resurface all the quotes where the GM said that he and Rex "Were finishing each others sentences during the interview" but we all know this was a Russ/marketing/ticket hire. The "Terry likes red wine" text was all we needed to know. My guess is the current GM is not crazy about Mr. Brandon either. Let him make this decision. The current GM can't use any excuses on this hire -- the EJ pick was Nix's; the Sammy trade was injuries; the current GM has done some good things but now his job, his reputation will clearly be on the line with this hire. Excited to see who he gets. -
Great post. It won't happen but would love to see Mark Murphy come into this role and be given the authority to make changes this year if needed. The only thing I would hedge on here is keeping Rex means keeping the 3-4 and the Bills simply are not built as structured to be a 3-4 team. The Bills also have problems as a 4-3 team in that I don't think any of Lawson, Alexander or Hughes are edge setters. However, I like the LB corps of Brown, Brown and Ragland. They are stout. Z. Brown has cover ability. A lot of work needs to be done on D. That work cannot happen with Rex there.. There are 23 free agents -- lots of decisions to be made. Whaley needs another voice in the mix if he is going to stay...

Rex won't be fired. He will resign and negotiate a buy out for less than $15 million owed. He will do so because Anthony Lynn will be named head coach and keep the offensive staff in place. Chris Palmer will be named OC. First task for Lynn will be DC hire. Pettine will be on the short list but look for Mike Zimmer or Vic Fangio to be be dark horses if they are free. They will want someone with head coaching experience in this role. Again, no inside information -- just what I believe they are working on.

PFW: Tom Coughlin the favorite to replace Rex Ryan

He can beat the Patriots.... -
Watch Rex really close. I think he has been already told.

This is my baseless opinion.. -Rex and Whaley will both be back in 2017 with assurances for their remaining contract terms -Tyrod renegotiates his contract -- still collects about $15 million next year but its essentially another tryout year -Brandon's role is strictly redefined to marketing, sales, branding for the sports and media properties of the Pegula empire -Mark Murphy comes back to WNY to oversee the operations - on the field/ice products of the Bills and Sabres--both coaching and football/hockey personnel report to him. His decision to chart the future of the on field product for both franchises. Title is President of Bills and Sabres. Enticement is Hockey team. - Gilmore is a priority; A. Williams retires. -

Gus has sat in the bathroom the whole time back to Jacksonville. Jesus I have to pee. David Caldwell has given me a few knowing nods. He is so much smarter than Whaley and Russ. I have already begun game planning for the Titans next week. I know I can beat Mularkey. We do have a kinship I respect -- both leaving the Bills in the lurch. Can't wait to land.....and be a head coach again. St. Dougie

If Rex is fired, does a team hire him as DC?
JoeF replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This two year tenure has shown me that the guy lacks any accountability... 1) not calling Seantrel Henderson-but saying he cares about players 2) not telling management about Clay 3) Side trips to Clemson and the world series 4) Hiring your brother Individually no big deal but looking at the total package -- its a pattern too big to ignore -- there's always an excuse to take the path that takes away from the job. Once in a while I am fine -- but he's like a kid trying to push the Pegulas to fire him... DC --not really...I think he might be a good T-ball coach if he has an assistant who can run 3/4 of the practices and coach 1/2 the games. Rex will handle all the press conferences. -
New Chenelly Tweet - Coughlin an option

Does Coughlin's age really matter when the Bills average tenure during the playoff drought is less than 3 years....Coughlin has a five year stint in him, easily. -
