  1. Playing in a soccer stadium on the football version of the bad Clippers vs. 70,000 screaming fans in a football town...the beach is a vacation not a lifestyle...
  2. Made in Buffalo... https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-solar-roof-finally-ready-153805318.html
  3. Comp picks should be based on the number of years the team has not been in the post-season. It should work like this.. Consecutive years not in post-season.. 5 years - 7th rounder 6 years - 6th rounder 7 years - 5th rounder 8 years - 4th rounder 9 years - 3rd rounder 10 years-3rd rounder + 7th rounder 11 years-3rd rounder + 6th rounder 12 years-3rd rounder + 5th rounder 13 years - 3rd rounder + 4th rounder 14 years - 3rd rounder + 3rd rounder 15 years - 3rd rounder + 3rd rounder+7th rounder 16 years - 3rd rounder + 3rd rounder+6th rounder 17 years -3rd rounder + 3rd rounder+5th rounder 18 years - franchise suspends operation as it reaches legal voting age for absence from the playoffs
  4. Pissboy to Coach McDermott didn't sound right... I keeeed, I keeeeed...
  5. Beating the Patriots 34-31 in 2011...being at the game...being down 21-0...closing it to 21-10 before the half and seeing two of my favorite Bills from this era--Bryan Scott and David Nelson play major roles in bringing the Bills back...the DrayFlo interception will be forever etched in my mind as will Belichick going nuts at the end when they said Freddie wasn't in the end zone and the Bills milked the clock.
  6. On the job training fees....Listen to Terry answer the question related to this topic during this past Sunday's press conference. He doesn't care and says it common. That's the kind of owner I like from a financial perspective. I can't comment on the Sabres because I don't follow them with the focus or passion I do the Bills -- but getting rid of Rex and Whaley were fine with me and show me that ownership expects and deserves hard work, dedication, discipline and wins...in reverse order...
  7. Really didn't think anyone wanted him for a $1.9 million cap hit...not worth it...but 20-30 plays in a hybrid nickel/dime role and special teams may even offer him 2 years at $1 million per...with maybe $250K upfront.
  8. Happy Birthday, John!
  9. He started a scouting service right before the draft and revised two teams draft boards. No inkling on which teams. He is really, really good at talent evaluation and personnel strategy. A lot of us have loved ones who are addicts. There's no simple answer ever to what an individual needs --it's really personalized... Some thrive in rehab...some folks think the worst thing you can do is put an addicted individual in an environment with other addicts. Some favor support with meds...some don't .... There is no "getting a handle" on the problem or any other trite solution. The team that affiliates with him is going to have to evaluate his personal situation and build that kind of support network around him..that being said -- would love to have him affiliated with the Bills and have him build the scouting organization. If not as GM then as a really highly paid personnel tsar....
  10. 2nd look -- his base this year is $1.8 million..I would see if he clears waivers and then sign him for vet minimum..
  11. OMG! McD woody....can't get to the fax machine to put in that claim quick enough..
  12. This is true based on local radio (Raleigh/Charlotte) reports and local interviews with Boston. He was a favorite of McD's to criticize. Also meant that McD knew that Boston fit the culture he wanted and could take a punch. Boston didn't seem to mind. He loved coach McD. Said he pushed him to be better. My observation was that Boston was really hurt last year by having young corners at the beginning of the year and getting caught peeking a lot to provide help. As the season wore on -- he lost more and more field time. If the Bills claim him--I would see it as a Robert Blanton type signing with a player with more range and pop than Blanton. If he starts, it's a real sign the Bills lack talent at the position, but I think there is confidence that Hyde and Poyer will start. If the Bills claim Boston and he sees the field for about 20-30 snaps a game as a nickel/dime LB/box safety and on teams -- it's a good sign. He is a physical cover guy, relatively tall 6' 1" and stout. He can be relied upon to press a TE. Boston attended UNC - Chapel Hill. He is from Ft. Myers...but he and Watkins went to rival High Schools. He was a stud in Chapel Hill -saw the field and contributed as a true freshman. I wouldn't be against this...Hyde and Poyer are both more roamers than box safties--the Bills need this role to be filled.
  13. Dave Gettleman GM of the Panthers is 66 years old. When he was hired by the Panthers he was in semi-retirement with the Giants. Brandon Beane has taken a lot of the administrative duties of the GM role on during his time with the Panthers and Gettleman has increased Beane's scouting role each year. This article tells some of the story: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article24802192.html He played QB in HS -- but suffered an injury that took away a college playing career. My biggest worry would be him putting together a scouting staff.
  14. McDermott knew the Panthers needs. He had probably heard talk about how the scouts rated certain prospects before he left. The Bills had similar needs to the Panthers. The boards fell such that after Zay Jones (WR) and Dion Dawkins (OL) at each position there was a drop-off. Many draft pundits had this stance. The Bills knowing the Panthers needs, moved aggressively to get these two. Deep knowledge of the Panthers board wasn't necessary to make these moves. It could have reasonably been based on the knowledge he had when he left the organization. Doubt there is even much smoke...
  15. Caleb Brantley or Joe Mixon
  16. Seems interesting in context of today's actions....wonder if Jim and Thurman have been in Terry's ear as well.
  17. Simon and SDS -- good job moderating this AM. A separate thread from this for "Whaley fired for wiping boogers on a girl with disabilities" or something probably not warranted....
  18. It's hard for me to celebrate anyone getting fired...but W's and L's are the scorecard and Doug did not deliver. The timing was right because of the scouting work that had been done in FA and the Draft, but I believe the dye was cast for this in January during the coaching search when Coach McD was hired. Doug and Coach McD seemed to tolerate each other and actually got some productive work done during both the draft and FA, kudos to both of them for that and a good look for Doug as he hits the job market. If you look at the AFC its going to be really difficult for the Bills to be a playoff team.. Patriots -- really loaded for another run Steelers - looking at Ben's last couple of years so they are all in Raiders - only improving and see this as their time Titans - have really loaded up on talent to surround Mariota I think these are your division winners That leaves the Bills competing with the likes of the Chiefs, Broncos, Ravens, Dolphins, Colts, Jaguars and Texans for the two wild card spots (I believe the Browns, Bengals and Jets are rebuilding). I think the Bills do not stack up well against the wildcard competition. The key will be head to head matchups against the other wildcard teams...everything can change with injuries, but my expectations are lowered when I look at the competition. The focus of the new GM should be on building a 53 player roster with talent but also salary balance. That's where Doug screwed up the most..the Bills are limited in investing in other areas because of the D-Line, Running Back and TE investments they have made..this is where the new GM needs to focus...getting us more in balance I believe. You do that by living with what you have at the over invested positions while the cap increases, spending the added cap money elsewhere and bringing in either young or older vet FA talent to make sure the current over invested positions don't falter. You don't take huge cap hits on current contracts but you wait to make moves until the cap hits make sense. The Bills started to do this during this offseason and it's a good blueprint. Bottom line -- it's possible to make the playoffs this year with the wildcard as a ceiling but salary strategy and roster building should be the real focus
  19. They were using code...Jones was Pirates (ECU), Dawkins was Phillies -- made it seem like they were having idle chat about baseball. First text--I think the Pirates have a good shot of getting to the second round of the playoffs this year Second Text-Man Jon Kruk was sure a fat Phillie -- almost like an Offensive tackle..
  20. Just had the same thought #Badol....next up -- McDermott and Beane Wal-mart no contract cell phones mysteriously disappear....
  21. The post draft interview with coach is on bb.com...watch the last two questions...I can see why Yolo surmises this..
  22. Yes. Bills need the underneath coverage LBs who can tackle and not be overwhelmed by the occasional run or screen when in the nickel. Plus these are both core special teams players.
