Around the NFL: Week 6 Sunday Game Thread
The Dean replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why does it "need to go"? I can think of some rules that really blow, and semi-regularly screw up games (fumbling into the endzone, for example). Not sure why this rule would bother anyone. If they can kick a 70 yard FG, more power to them, I say. -
You win with whatever strategy get you a win. They all count the same. Winning close games may actually make the team TOUGHER. But the score differential in any given game is only important in the sense one team won, and the other lost. Except for gamblers. But I don't give a crap about that. Some weeks you have to sit on the ball and make it a low scoring win. Other times you have to win with the offense. The best teams can play, and win, any style of game. 4-1 so far. So I- think I'll trust McDermott for now.

I wonder why he didn't mention the Pats* offense was outscored by the Bills O, and they needed a blocked punt to win the game. That's not relevant, I guess. All wins count the same. Thinking about score differential is a losers mindset. All about the W.

Probably a rerun from 20 years ago. -
McDermott needs to ---Win. That's all he needs to do. Just win. However it comes, just win. Doesn't matter how much you win by, unless it comes down to some serious tiebreakers. Period.

Sunday Night Game: Steelers at Chargers NBC

What a great 4th down and short look by the Steelers. Great punt, too. -
If the players and coaches are tanking, the Fins will have to completely replace the entire team and all the coaches. There is no building a team with guys who willingly lose. Tanking may help a team get a few better players (if they guess right on all the picks--which doesn't happen), but the culture is shot to hell. And TEAMS win, not a collection of individual players. Who the fuc# is Scott Kacsmar?

If you think the players and coaches are tanking I think you are the one who is delusional.

Fabulous. -
It's obvious some people will NEVER understand that. But it isn't about getting the same number of people to bet, but balancing the money bet on both sides.

The problem with so many of these PI calls is, even if they aren't PI because the pass is uncatchable or was on a WR who wasn't involved in the play, is they are STILL PENALTIES. Maybe they aren't a PI, but they are illegal contact or holding, etc. WTF is wrong with the officials? In fact today is one of the first times I've ever heard the announcer question the non-call in the Chief's game. Oh and one more tangentially related thing. There have been complaints about some PI calls not being reversed that seem pretty clear. I agree with some of the criticism. But one article was complaining that they would only reverse the call in the event: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/10/13/cardinals-get-a-touchdown-after-riveron-again-shows-a-high-replay-standard/ Um, Duh! Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? -
The level of quarterbacking in the league...

Yes, I forgot about him. Lynn will have to turn things around this year to keep his job, IMO. Then again, the Rams are 3-3. Maybe McVay (and all the people and all the head coaches who got their jobs because they knew him) will get fired.
-
Quinn is likely done. Steelers haven't fired a head coach since the 60's. I don't think Tomlin is going to break that streak, but he may walk away at the end of his contract to take another job. I'm guessing Kitchin's gets another year. But I also agree he was a bad hire. If he gets canned I predict Baker will start insulting him the minute he's gone.(Mayfield is a real POS) I don't think Gase will get canned in his first year, but it is the Jets. Same for Flores. But the Fins might need to tank again next year. Unless they do a total reversal, Rivera is probably safe. I don't think Kahn fires Marrone this year, unless he totally loses the team.

There's a man in town named Paul McGuire---and he is from Buffalo. He's one of my clients. First time I met him I expected to meet THE Paul McGuire. He says he gets that all the time. -
Oh, right. But you still score a point if tied in OT. My bad. And duh, Soccer os the most major sport in the world. For the record, I'm not "pro tie". I'm "anti gimmick". Baseball and basketball have the best way to handle ties, IMO. Play the freaking game. With that said, having a tie or two in regular season isn't that big of a deal.

Well, that's a distinct possibility I hadn't considered. I mean somebody HAD to say that before either of them, but not in that way. I didn't realize it was Cosell---but that makes some sense coming from Berman. -

Well, I'd actually be surprised if Cosell was the first to utter those words, but perhaps. However Berman has a very distinctive way of saying it, unlike Cosell or anyone before him, as far as I know.
