Will the Stadium Stay in Orchard Park? Hear me out
The Dean replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I believe Hammer was talking about digging down in OP at New Era, to expand the lower concourse. -
Doesn't the 16ppg average include any defensive scores?

Will the Stadium Stay in Orchard Park? Hear me out
The Dean replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
IMO, this is the worst of all possible options. I'd like to think you are right about this. OP is a perfect location for the stadium, IMO. And while putting a lid on the Cap appeals to many, not to me. Brave the elements! -
Speaking of Lamb, anyone hear from Bob Lamb lately? He has good height, but probably a little slow for a WR.

Many stay too long. Others start to over-rely on a catchphrase that gained them some popularity---especially if they can sponsor said catchphrase. As to passion...I bring enough passion to the game. Passion tends to lead to perceived bias (which is fine for home team announcers). Give me cold, efficient competence any day of the week. Mostly give me the info and stay the hell out of the way of my enjoyment. I really don't need you telling stories during the play. And they are looking to see if he bobbled the ball, not if his feet were in bounds, you bozos. Pay the Fuc# attention instead of babbling you fuc#tards! Harrumph! Woah! Did I just go off there?

I like Joe, but Jack Buck was one of my favorites for years. But as he started to get older, he really started to slip. It happens to the best of them, if they stick around a bit too long. He was calling Monday Night Football with Hank Stram as his analyst. I love me some Hank, but even he was getting a bit long in the tooth. Still had a lot more on the ball than Buck by that time. Here is my (only very slightly exaggerated) recreation of a typical play-call exchange between the two: Buck: The quarterback drops back and, and it's caught by the.....receiver guy...for a big gain. Hank? Stram: A nice 3-yard completion for (x QB) to (X WR).

Nope

I just Googled that and I think if I posted them on here Prudy McFilter might get involved, or I could get banned! Speaking of getting banned. There are some offenses that are unforgivable. But no, I should not criticize another's taste in music. If you gotta love the Bieb, then love away brother.

I know there are a lot of complaints about announcers. Typically though, because of their competence/perceived bias, not because of the sound of their voice. But whatever. If you can't stand her voice, you can't stand her voice. Fair enough.

Would you be satisfied with Stafford's career for Josh?
The Dean replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the answer has already been given a number of times. Would I be happy with Stafford's career? Well, since his career is without a SB run or ring, then no. But if you are asking, would I be satisfied if Josh was as good of a QB as Stafford has been, I might be more inclined to say yes. Stafford is a terrific QB. Terribly underrated because he has played on pretty bad teams, with several HCs and who knows how many OCs. I'm not saying he got Archie Manning screwed (nobody gets that screwed), but Stafford is a good enough QB to get to/win the SB, IMO. With all that said, I'm really hoping Josh turns out to be even better than Matt. -
I would never make the assumption that someone not liking Mowins has to be sexist. With that said, I'd ask that person, "What male play-by-play announcers have voices you simply can't stand?" Given the ratio of men to women PBP announcers is probably over 50-1, you'd think there would be several. I can say I have heard many people complain about the way Solomon Wilcots pronounced "Bills". Seems pretty petty to me, but if it bugs someone it bugs someone. Same thing with Dierdork's lisp. Obviously some disliked him for other reasons, but others were focused on the way he talked. Fair enough. If your are honest about why you don't like someone, that's good enough for me. Though I will say I find those kinds of complaints rather petty. I have to deal with offshore tech support all the time. I try my best to "crack the code" of their accents, as I find some of those techs among the best---IF I can understand them. But if I can't, I ask for someone else and explain I simply can't understand what they are saying. So it's perfectly possible for someone to dislike BW because they don't like her voice. I believe it's a rather petty complaint. You'd think one should be able to overlook something that trivial if she is competent at her job, but that's my opinion. The one thing that still confuses me is, many say she sounds like a man. While some say it's like "nails on a chalkboard". IMO the nails on the chalkboard sound is typically a high-pitched shrill sound. But c'est la vie.

Maybe their ages are over 20 now. I heard the lead singer was 16 awhile back. Still they push the underage vibe quite a bit, don't you think?
-
I'm guessing the vast majority of their audience is young women. And I'm (jokingly) wondering if the authorities might be interested in their few older men fans. And if you don't get that, I can't help you any further.
-
Do the authorities just wait outside of their concerts and arrest all the old men leaving at the end of the show?

You must have missed my post just before yours: Gotcha. Well, not much you can do about that. Some people have voices that grate on some other people. I don't care for a lot of the voices in sports. But if they are competent, I learn to live with it. It's incompetence I can't take.

I'm pretty sure the oddsmakers found out the Fins have found a way to get negative points on the----um--- scoreboard?

I don't get the Beth Mowins hate. She is a play-by-play announcer, not an analyst. What do you find objectionable about the way she calls the play-by-play? Is she screwing up the players/calls?
-
But what I'm saying is, if Flores has ANY sense (and I suspect he does) there is no believeale promise the Miami management could make to get him to obviously tank. Unless the Fins agreed to pay him more money than he would make being a long term respected coach in this league, you just can't risk your entire future on purposely throwing games. Coaches make bad calls all the time. Even Belicheat has made a few inexplicable bad calls. Using that call as "proof" or even "solid evidence" against Flores is the worst kind of conspiracy theory logic. The Fins are not likely his long term future. He HAS to know that.
-
I wouldn't confuse Flores situation with McDermott's in his first year. Yes they both had QB issues. But that's about it. Besides, what good does it do Flores to lose a winnable game on purpose? Do you think he believes drafting a QB in 2020 instantly turns his crappy team into a contender? I can't see any college QB in the draft I'd count on to turn things around--at least not quickly and not with that roster. And don't forget, McDermott took the Bills to the playoffs in his first year.

Around the NFL: Week 6 Sunday Game Thread
The Dean replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No team has scored on it since 1976. -
Hard to understand your post with such vague references. "the finger wagged" WTF does that mean? Did someone disagree with your disagreement?
-
The idea that Flores is purposefully tanking is preposterous. That's a career destroyer right there, and he's just getting started. Maybe you could hire Rex and get him to tank.

Does anyone miss Zach Brown? Nigel Bradham?
The Dean replied to Markjaro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of guys still in the league and contributing,: Woods, Peters and Gilmore. But we have replaced Gilmore at a very high level, IMO. So I'm really OK with that. Peters is getting a bit long in the tooth and has a disturbing injury history. With that said, I still miss him. One of the organizations bigger screwups. Probably miss Woods the most. He really is a special football player, IMO. Not elite WR, but does everything at a pretty high level. Great team/organization guy, too. I think I'd trade any of our current WRs for him. I miss watching Nigel Bradham play. I don't miss his boneheaded penalties. -
Yes, a very Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Bills friends. I say, make Thanksgiving any damn day you want. I'd have one every season. We all need to give more thanks, and feast together with our family and friends---outside of a tailgate situation, that is. And cut my paisan Cristoforo some slack. You know how hard it is for most of us Italians to leave our homes and families? This sucker left to beg Spain to sponsor a trip to boldly go where no man had gone before---at least that he knew of. It was a fool's errand and he completely failed his primary mission. But hey, happy accident. Doesn't happen without some serious nads. Boldly go? Serious nads? What was I thinking of? Oh, right. Interestingly enough, another Colombo, Realdo gets some misplaced credit. But like Chris, he also "boldly went...". An Italian anatomist, Realdo claims to have discovered the ***** (cl!toris, in case Prudy McFilter gets involved) in 1559. Again, obviously somebody had been there before him. I'm going out on a limb here and saying, even some MAN had been there before. But to Realdo, an anatomy scholar, nothing like this had ever been postulated before. In his mind, he was the first to ever discover this wonderous new world. And I suppose, given the mores of the day, that took some nads. Oh I don't think there has ever been any established familial relationship between Christoforo and Realdo Colombo. But, c'mon!
