We were extras in the stands at the Rockpile during filming. Afterwards there was a media scrum around Mr. Redford on the ball diamond and being a little kid I squeezed thru a sea of legs towards the bright camera lights when Bam! an arm from one of the other baseball actors caught me just before I would have crashed right into the star. RR looked down at me and said something that made everyone laugh- I have no idea what it was but it doesn't matter, just having this little story in my pocket involving such a legendary icon has always made me happy. Colorado is a great state for rockhounding, but I have to say for fossils WNY's Penn Dixie Quarry is about as fossil rich a locality as I could ever hope to imagine. It's a pay-to-dig site but I came back with an impressive trilobite, several well preserved brachiopods, and more horn coral than I know what to do with. I guess back in the day the Walworth Quarry east of Rochester used to let the public collect gorgeous water-clear fluorites, but like so many other good things those days are long over.
