The threat of a deep ball opens up those slants, etc even more because the safeties can’t cheat down. I agree that you’ve got to throw at least 1-2 deep per game. Keep that defense honest and if you hit one or get a pass interference penalty, you flip the field in one play.

This is what I was thinking too. This would make the end of some games a lot more exciting.

Actually, I think my post is different. You cut out the whole middle of my post where I explain why I think cutting him now is pointless but then go on to agree with part of that reasoning. You don’t have to agree with me but it’s not like I just stated he’s the man and left it at that. I said…or at least what I was trying to say in that point is that there is a possibility of him throwing the ball and if he hits one for a deep TD, people would change their tune. You’ve been on TSW long enough to see how some posters completely change their outlook from week to week. Kind of like how after week 1, this team was going 0-16 but now that we won a game, the sky isn’t falling quite as fast anymore. With our offense and the limitations that Fitz has, we need as many different dimensions as possible to give the opposing defense as many different things to work on as we can. The more time they have to spend on our wildcat, even if it is only for a short time, the less time that they have to work on other things to disrupt us. Let me be clear, I like Brad Smith but as player #46 on this roster…1 guy that can do a bunch of different little things to help us win. He’s pretty good on special teams (other than KO returns) and has stepped up to make some plays at WR when we needed him. I also don’t think we cut some diamond in the rough to keep him on the roster.

I love all the cut Brad Smith now posts that offer no reasoning at all besides some form of he sucks. At least give a plan/idea on how cutting a player will benefit the team. Keep in mind we have plenty of cap space, it’s not your money and his salary for this year is already guaranteed. I’m a Brad Smith fan. He adds another dimension to our offense and keeps making plays. Sure he’s not an all pro player but he’s a nice role player to have. That catch on Sunday is about as difficult a catch as you’ll see. Give the wildcat more time…it starts out basic and then adds in wrinkles as time goes by. Brad hits a long TD pass in a critical game and people will change their tune. Just having that possibility adds another thing for the defense to worry about.

When I first heard it on the TV broadcast, it sounded to me as if the play was reviewed and then the penalty was called. We had some people over to watch the game and it was a little noisy so I just assumed that I didn’t hear it correctly because I didn’t think you could go back to review a hit to see if it was legal. Or maybe the commentators just never mentioned it. I certainly didn’t see a flag thrown when the play happened or even immediately afterwards. I may have to go check the tape to see that play again.

This replay very clearly shows both feet in bounds. Unless he was juggling it or something, I’m not sure what the problem is.

I put a lot more of the blame on Chan than I do on Fitz. Great coaches tailor their schemes to fit the players. As much as it pains me to admit, that’s what makes Bill Belicheat one of the best. He’s constantly designing schemes to put the players he has in the best position to succeed. Based on what I’ve seen the past few years, Chan seems to be saying, here’s the offense we’re running…learn it. Let Fitz be more of a game manager rather than having him throw as much. Run the ball Chan!!!!!

I got my wife youth jerseys because the smallest adult is still too big. There are fewer players to choose from for women's jerseys but more different styles.

I really hope this is not the case as you can’t run a read and react go rout vs. a hitch against most corners much less against Revis. Meaning, if the route has an option to either be a hitch or a go, that has to be decided before the snap, not after the play has started. You can have a route that may either break in or out depending on the defender but with those the QB can still lead the WR after seeing which way he cut. I don’t think it matters how strong your arm is…if you wait until the received breaks to an out hitch before ever throwing the ball, it’s going to get picked quite often. Stevie was open and he had to wait an eternity for the ball to get there. Either the timing was off or there was some kind of miscommunication. Who knows, maybe Fitz was going to throw it, decided not to and then changed his mind again. I still chalk it up to a bad decision by Fitz.

I’m older than I act and younger than I feel!! I hope one of those changes someday, hahaha. I’m 34 and have been a Bills fan all my life, my whole family has been since the beginning. My first game was in 88 against the Steelers although I really don’t remember too much about that day. Nor do I remember too much about the Bengals game we went to in 89. I do remember going to the Denver game in 1990…we scored 20 points in 77 seconds…that stadium was rocking!! My Dad was a cop and worked all the home games so I never got to go until he gave that up. I don’t remember that Raider game but I do remember I was working security at that playoff game against the Raiders. I don’t know how cold it actually was but the wind chill was like -30. I’m pretty sure that was the coldest game in Bills history. The Jets game the week before (I think it was the regular season finally) was freezing cold too but not quite as cold as the Raiders game. We had to take shifts in the bathroom because that was the only place that had heaters. I’ve got a bunch of them but I typically only wear them on game day. We also have a lot of Jersey Friday’s at work too just so we can all talk some smack to each other. It pains me to say/type it but it was a legal play. I saw one of those sports science pieces they do on ESPN about this play and it does show the ball does not actually go forward even though it sure looked like it did. It was awhile ago and I had a few cocktails that day but I thought the play was reviewed and upheld.

Kind of splitting hairs here but I think the 2nd INT was a little better representation of who Fitz is as a QB than the 1st one was…an inaccurate pass that was behind an open receiver. His accuracy issues are what caused him to throw so many INTs last season. With the 1st INT, I believe that he was late with the throw and that caused the INT. I don’t know if he was late with his read (it didn’t look that way to me on Sunday) or if his timing was just off. Either way, he’s been around long enough to know he doesn’t have the arm strength to throw late to the outside. The 1st and 3rd INTs were just bad decisions and he usually doesn’t make too many of those. Also, I don’t consider trying to fit a pass into coverage when we’re down by a lot, basically just trying to make something happen a bad decision.

I agree. With all the other holes we have, a KO specialist seems like a waste of a roster spot. I have to think the coaching staff has a little more long term plans for Potter than just kickoffs. Lindell is getting up there in age. Then again, I don’t recall Potter even attempting a FG in the preseason. The one thing I’ve learned about this team over the years is that as soon as I think they know what they’re doing, they make a move that baffles me. Since we do have Potter, I wish that rather than kicking it deep into or through the endzone, he put more air under the ball and try to have it come down about a yard or 2 into the endzone. The returner would be more tempted to bring it out and the added hang time would allow our coverage units to potentially make the tackle inside of the 20.

I don’t think the problem with the FO is them not trying to get a franchise QB, it’s that they keep thinking that they have one when most of us can already see that they don’t. Fitz is the perfect example…we all see his major flaws but Chan and Co appear to truly believe they can transform him into a franchise QB. It’s also why we passed on so many of these QBs…we already had our guy…or so the FO thought. Back to the drawing board.

While I could see lack of film on the Jets new offense playing a very small part into the outcome of the game, I don’t think it would have made much difference if we did have film. It’s not like they were running some type of new offense no one had ever seen before. It doesn’t explain why their receivers were wide open on just about every single play. It appears that we were playing a lot of man coverage and our DBs were getting smoked all day long. Or maybe it was zone coverage and our DBs were just too slow to react. McLovin was a step behind on most plays and played about as good as he normally does…I thought the move inside was supposed to help him???? Gilmore looked lost but he gets a pass for now since it was his first game. The run D was pretty darn good and we didn’t really fall for their Tebow package or trickeration. Even the flea-flicker was well covered although I still can’t figure out why neither of our DBs made any type of play on that ball. It’s like they were both only watching the WR and not the ball. It appeared to me that we made virtually no adjustments throughout the game which baffles me. I read that Chan and Wanny talked after the game and came up with a way to tighten up the coverage….why after the game??? Why not at the half??? I know the sky is not falling…yet…but other than the run D, I really didn’t see much difference between this team and the one that dropped 7 straight last season. We still can’t cover anyone and Fitz is still inaccurate. It’s going to be a long year if we can’t/don’t get those 2 things fixed.

I think Thigpen will be on the roster for week 1 at least, Jackson does not appear anywhere near ready to play if Fitz goes down early in week 1. I think Morrison will make it too, one of the rookie LBs (I’m thinking Carder) to the practice squad. I doubt we keep 9 on the O-line, I see 8 at the most (Sanders to PS). BTW, no way Hagen is still PS eligible, he’s been in the league for like 7 years now. I’d rather we keep Roosevelt and Easley over him anyways.

I won’t shed a tear if Easley gets cut but I’d rather keep him as the #6 WR and Roosevelt as the #5 over Hagen and Martin. Those guys are already at their ceiling and it’s not very high so get rid of them and keep those last few roster spots for guys that still have room to grow. Or try and get Easley to the PS if we need the roster spot and only keep 5 WRs and Brad Smith.

Wes Welker is not exactly a speedster…he only ran a 4.61 at his pro day…but he’s always open and catches everything near him (except for in the Super Bowl ). Roosevelt kind of reminds me a little of him and Wayne Chrebet. They may not have the measurables but they are football players who get the job done when called upon. I’d rather have Roosevelt over Hagan.

I’ll go out on a limb and say Roosevelt makes it over Hagen. Hagen might be bigger but I haven’t seen him use that size to his advantage by going up to get a ball or block out a DB to make a catch. Roosevelt always seems to get open and catches everything thrown at him. Fitz also seems to have great chemistry with Roosevelt. I also believe we only keep 5 WRs and Brad Smith. Aiken back to the PS.
