  1. All she had to do was pay the $275 fee required to participate. I was surprised how easy it was to tryout. You pay the fee and provide the equivalent of a resume on why you’re qualified to participate. Her reason was that she played soccer and I guess that was good enough to get her through. Maybe Wisconsin women’s soccer was a club sport back when she would have played??? Heck, maybe she just played on a club team after school. IMO, this was all for the publicity and it worked. Like 20 news outlets showed up to cover this particular combine when it’s rare for more than 1 or 2 to show up. I did read over the weekend that a few other participants had said that she asked multiple people the basics of kicking including how to place the ball on the tee. If she were legit, she could have at least said that her kicks in practice went X far but she didn’t do that either. She only said that she hoped the scouts liked her technique, it’s not always length. I’m sure some of you guys can relate to that.
  2. According to this article, Jennings to the Phins is unlikely. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000144998/article/greg-jennings-joe-philbin-reunion-reportedly-unlikely Dustin Keller is who you’re thinking of. I’d like Martellus Bennett from the Giants. We need a TE even if Chandler can make it back for camp. I also wouldn’t mind seeing us bring in a guy like Ramses Barden from the Giants. He’s 6-6, 224 and runs in the 4.5-4.6 range. The Giants had some hopes he’d breakout but it never happened. Partially due to injury and I’d have to think partially due to Cruz’s breakout. He essentially lost 2 years with a broken ankle that had some ligament damage. He probably wouldn’t cost a lot of money, he’s got some size and has been in the league for 4 years so he’s still young but not green.
  3. For what it’s worth, I saw on TV last night that the Raiders are very interested in Geno and he’s on their short list @ #3 overall, even with Palmer and Pryor on the roster.
  4. He probably keeps #94. As of about a year ago, the NFL policy was that a player would have to buy the remaining stock of their jersey in order to switch #s (Or names in Chad Ocho’s case). Adrian Peterson wanted to change his number before this past season and it would have cost him about $1 mil to do so, link below. Now I doubt it would cost Mario $1 mil since AP is one of the most popular players in the league and Mario, well, plays for the Bills but it would still cost him a good chunk of change. http://sports.yahoo....ug=ycn-10916141 Plus unless there was more to it than what was in the media, Mario never really seemed to be bothered that he couldn’t wear #90 here. IIRC, he never even asked Kelsey about taking his # although that may have just been out of respect to a player who had been here wearing that # for 10 years.
  5. All part of Buddy’s plan. Had we cut him after training camp last year, another team may have swooped in and grabbed him. So Buddy being the savvy GM that he is figured he’d cut the guy in May so no one would think he was worth a damn allowing us to bring him back in this year. Pure genius!!!! Seriously, this is just a camp thing and is no different than all the other scrubs being signed around the league this time of year. They were out of the league last year and 99.9999% of them will be out of the league again next year. It may even just be a minicamp thing since Fitz is the only QB currently under contract…we gotta make sure we have some guys to throw during spring ball.
  6. Happy trails #24. Classy player that I wish would have been able to stick around long enough to see this team win but injuries just wouldn’t let that happen. Best wishes to you. Thanks for digging this up. One of the most exciting plays that meant absolutely nothing in team history. No, he had like 5 blockers in front of him and 1 Saints player was able to fight through them, dive at his feet and trip him up. Typical play of the Bills of the 2000’s, so close but just not able to get it done.
  7. my choice is what I choose to do and if I'm causing no harm it shouldn't bother you your choice is who you choose to be and if your causin' no harm then you're alright with me
  8. This is a great point, except that Sanchez wasn't really playing all that well. Sanchez deal was way worse for this and many of the other reasons already posted. At least with Fitz’s deal, we have some outs without taking a huge salary cap hit. With all their other cap issues, the Jests can’t cut Sanchez this year if they wanted to.
  9. Meow!!! Looks like the new kitty is wearing eyeliner.
  10. Bingo!!! If they sued the high schools and Pop Warner leagues, they'd shut them down.
  11. You must have missed the SB the following year. Yes the skins handles us pretty easily but the Cowboys bent us over a barrel without any lube. While most players probably didn’t need any extra motivation, every little bit helps.
  12. Because anything involving a celebrity is news these days. Or it could be that there are other people out there that also believe Danny boy is a classless douche and they want to rub it in. I always thought he was an arrogant jerk and he cemented my opinion after his comments on Drew Brees breaking his passing record.
  13. Well said. IMO, Flutie was the epitome of a “me first” athlete. No doubt now that he was a better QB than RJ but his playing time and personal success were more important than team success. Many of the vets on that team realized that and it ultimately divided the locker room. He could have still competed hard but also helped RJ out along the way because it would have been the best thing for the team but he didn’t. Who knows, maybe RJ would have progressed into the QB we all hoped he would be with a little more tutelage from the veteran QB early on since most of his issues appeared to be mental. Flutie was just not a team guy and had no interest in helping RJ out because starting was more important to him. Say what you want about Alex Smith but Harbaugh has stated that Alex has helped Kap out anyway that he could despite the hard feelings over losing the starting job. Flutie is one of if not the best QB to ever play in the CFL yet he played for 3 teams in 8 years. Why is that? Can you imagine Joe Montana or Peyton Manning changing teams in the prime of their careers after setting passing records and/or winning championships? I can’t. It would be like the Packers letting Aaron Rodgers go. Flutie has done a lot for Autism, no one can deny that. We all know that to be true because he made sure the cameras were always following him on those visits to hospitals, etc. Just my opinion but if a lot of people know of your charitable deeds and especially if it’s being covered on the news week after week, you’re probably not doing it for the noblest reasons. Lastly, the thing I hate most about Doug Flutie is that he made me root for Rob Johnson.
  14. Agree with your point but had to fix this part. He was killed about 5 years after his career was cut short due to a knee injury.
  15. I totally agree with you, all of our LBs need to be upgraded eventually. I just don’t think we can replace/upgrade every LB on the team this off season alone. In looking at all of the LBs currently on the roster, I don’t feel he’s the weakest link. I also believe that at the very least, he can be solid depth and that we’re not going to give up on him after only 2 seasons, especially with all the scheme changes, crappy coaching, etc. For those reasons, I really think he’s back again next season. Even if we were to draft a MLB in the 1st round, I still think he’s on this team next season.
  16. No question in my mind that Graham stays. If by year #3 he still looks like he did last season, then get rid of him but a 3rd round WR pick needs at least 3 years to develop as long as he is showing progress along the way. I say Leave SJ13 outside all the time. Teams often put guys in the slot to help them get open but he gets open all the time anyways so put another guy in the slot (Nelson) and that increases the chance of both being open. Nelson could be a very, very good slot guy due to the mismatches he creates. He may not be fast for a WR but he’s bigger than most CBs so he can use his size to shield them from the ball and is faster than most safeties and LBs. I think he’s also a fairly decent blocker but don’t quote me on that. We need that other guy to go across from SJ13. Call that guy #1 or #2, it really doesn’t matter as long as he is a quality starter. Maybe Graham turns into that guy but I don’t think he’s there yet. I also don’t think Jones is any more than a #4 or 5 guy. He has the size/speed but it appears to me that he needs a perfect pass in order to make the play. I don’t recall ever seeing him go up and bring down a pass. We threw a couple of fade patterns to him and he doesn’t come close to making the play. One that I recall (I think it was preseason) the ball looked like it went right between his hands but never actually hit his hands because they were so far apart that he had no chance to make the play.
  17. I know people have guys that they just don’t like for one reason or another as evidenced by all the “he sucks, cut him now” responses/threads but the fact is that not every player on the roster can be all pro caliber, you need roll players and depth as well. Of course some of last year’s starters should not be starting. If they were we'd have been better than we were but they’d be solid back-ups for us at the very least. I’d be completely shocked if Shepard & Chandler aren’t on this team next season. I’m not saying Shepard is great but he is one of the better LBs that we currently have. He’s young, still developing and we’re not going to cut and replace every LB on the roster in 1 off season, it’s just not feasible. He’ll be around for depth/special teams at the very least but I’m expecting that he’ll be starting again next year. IMO, upgrading the OLBs is a higher priority than replacing him. Besides SJ13 & CJ, Chandler was the most reliable pass catcher that we had last season. At least 2 drops per game?!?!?! What games were you watching? Even if we do bring in another TE, Chandler would be a solid #2 and definitely has value on this team. He’ll probably start out the year on the PUP so we will need to bring in some other options. IMO Aaron Williams gets a pass because he’s still young and developing. I think he’s more suited to be a safety than a CB. He’d be depth behind Byrd (assuming he re-signs) and can play CB in a pinch. Depending on who we draft and bring in as FA signings, I don’t think any players that are currently under contract will be cut prior to camp unless they are due a large roster bonus and very few of our current vets have a large bonus coming due this year. It doesn’t matter how much they make, their salary is not guaranteed until week 1 so let them come to camp and compete. If they can’t hack it, then cut them. The big bonus’ due to players on the bubble are to Fitz who is due $3 mil and Brad Smith who is due $500k. Fitz’s bonus is likely due before we would be able to bring in another FA veteran QB or resign TJax so I expect him to be back for 1 last season. BS should be worried. That being said, here are the guys on last year’s roster that I don’t think will be on the opening day roster in 2013: Choice/Thigpen – Only on the team because of Chan. Shouldn’t be resigned. Ruvell Martin – Can’t believe he was even on the roster last season. Shouldn’t be resigned. Kirk Morrison – Was only here for depth, shouldn’t be resigned. Nick Barnett can/should be that veteran backup next season. I know Barnett has lost a step but his leadership and experience have value…especially with all the young guys we have at LB. Maybe Pettine bring Bart Scott with him to play that role. Erik Pears – I believe he was kind of a one year wonder and the RT job is Hairston’s to lose. I’m curious to see what strides Zebrie Sanders has taken in the off season. Kelsay – Thanks for all the hustle but you just can’t get the job done. We have to replace him with another DE that can play the run and I don’t think we have that guy on the roster. Mark Anderson is a 3rd down pass rush specialist (and I use that term loosely), not a full time DE and Moore wasn’t all that great against the run either. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moore lands a decent FA contract with another team. Brad Smith – I think we draft and/or bring in veteran WRs. His roster bonus and $2.75 mil salary likely make him a casualty.
  18. If Seattle cuts him, sure, bring him in to compete but I wouldn’t trade anything for him. He had a few good games but IMO that was more a product of a great GB team going against 2 bad defenses. He was an UFA last season and really didn’t have a whole lot of teams going after him. If he did, he’d have been able to sign for more than $19.5 million over 3 years, which I know is a ton to you or me but that’s not even low level starter money in the NFL. If Seattle is able to trade him, I can’t see them getting more than a low round pick unless a team is really desperate. I don’t think the Bills are to that point yet.
  19. +1 Exactly. Plus, if we had waited another day or 2, another team like the Browns or Eagles would have hired him instead.
  20. That’s not quite right. Per the article, the bonus is due on March 12, which is the start of the new league year. That is also when the trade period begins. April 1st is when his salary of $7.5 mil becomes fully guaranteed. So if the 49ers want to trade him, they have to pay the $1 mil roster bonus first (or renegotiate the contract to push that date back) and then complete the trade before April 1. From the article: “There are 2 key dates to keep in mind: 1) March 12, 2013 (tentatively based on new league year date, and 2) April 1, 2013. The former date is when Alex Smith is due a $1 million roster bonus. The latter date is when his $7.5 million base salary for 2013 becomes fully guaranteed. Whatever the 49ers elect to do, $1 million of that $7.5 million is already guaranteed separate from the base salary and the earlier March roster bonus. Now comes the fun part: is it worth it to trade him or cut him? By trading him, the 49ers would have to either negotiate with Smith to push the $1 million roster bonus back, and allow him to choose a team he would like to go to, or the 49ers would need to take the $1 million roster bonus, pay it, then wait until before April 1st to trade him. The 49ers could trade him after the April 1st date, but the base salary will be fully guaranteed at that point.”
  21. I do agree cam is way better than VY and wasn't trying to say otherwise. I was speaking more to the mental aspect. Both were hot rookie qbs that made the pro bowl and neither has proven they can run an nfl offense. Eventually that will hold the team back. Cam wings it a lot and is so athletic that he puts up monster stats...but they keep losing. If cam matures and gets the mental part down, he could end up being one of the GOAT. From the lack of maturity he keeps displaying, I really question if he gets there. I hope he does, this town is more fun when the panthers are winning.
  22. It’s too early for me to “hail” Cam Newton. He might have some great highlights so far but he hasn’t proven to me that he’s going to be a true franchise QB yet. And don’t give me the he threw for over 4000 yards, etc. This is a pass happy league and stats don’t mean a whole lot to me when your team loses that many games. Plus, Cam had to throw so much because he was a turnover machine last year. I agree with another poster that he is missing something. Living in Panther Country, I hope the thing he’s missing is just maturity because that should come with time. He needs to lead the Panthers but it’s going to be hard to get men to follow you when you act like a child. I unfortunately see some similarities between Cam & Vince Young and I really hope for the Panthers sake, that he gets his act together and avoids having the same career trajectory. Cam did not progress like he should have this year, which is why he struggled so badly in the beginning of the season. The Panthers coaching staff realized that and had to scale the offense back. Once they did that, Cam started playing better and the team won a bunch of games. I have no idea if the cause was that Cam just didn’t put in the time mentally to learn the offense or if he tried to but just couldn’t handle it. Maybe the staff just tried to put in too much at once. Anyhow, that reminds me of the problems the Titans coaching staff was having with VY. All that being said, it’s still really early in his career and there is plenty of time for him to become more than a highlight reel but right now, I think you need to look at more than just his stats to really see what kind of player he currently is. And to answer the question before it’s asked…yes I would take Cam over Fitz but I would not give up the farm to get him. We know what we have in Fitz and Cam still has a ton of room to grow.
  23. Looks like McElroy has a concussion and is out this week. No word on how it happened. My guess is Sanchez or Tebow hit him over the head with a tire iron. Motive is there for Sanchez since in the past we've made him look like the second coming of Joe Montana. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000117630/article/mark-sanchez-starting-for-new-york-jets-greg-mcelroy-out
  24. Another year with only Moorman in the Pro Bowl. Oh wait…
