  1. Ditto. I have no previous expenses to compare for ROI but my average monthly gas bill is $25. But that also includes our cooktop which we use quite frequently. But even if it took 5 years or so to recoup the initial investment, the fact that we do not have to be ration hot water for showers/laundry/dishwashing/etc. is well worth the expense. Before I get slammed by the environmentalists, we are cognizant about our water consumption.
  2. We have had a Rinnai (gas) for 3 years with no problems - absolutely a great product. We installed it outside of the house but built it into an unobtrusive edge and painted it to match the house - it looks like a power panel. We vented it there rather than putting in underneath the house. We have a crawlspace so that seemed the best option but another placement may be a better option for you. (edit after eball's reply): We have not had a problem with load: one unit, family of 4, frequent guests, 3 showers, front-load washer, dishwasher, etc. Never have experienced any issues or received any complaints about water pressure when units were running simultaneously. Only one tankless system. Could water pressure issues pertain to that delivered to the house rather than from the tankless hot water system? If so, I recall seeing something about a water pressure boost that could be added to a tankless system.
  3. Spot on...we had 2 seats in the first & second rows until halftime and then we gave the front 2 to a couple of friends I saw at the show and the 4 of us went to the second row when 2 other people left. It was a great show and he played a number of songs from his last 2 CDs ('Blue Country Heart' with Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck and Byron House & 'Stars in My Crown' - with another fabulous backing band) that I really enjoy. Mitterhof is an amazing musician as his sideman on stage. The last time I saw him in Richmond was about 15 years ago at 'The Flood Zone'. That time he performed and electric and acoustic set. The suites are nice - congrats on that. Are you going to the B-52s? I am not but my wife and her friends will be there.
  4. Yep, and my wife (she likes Jorma) and the kids (they have only heard the last 2-3 CDs and some of Quah, which they like) will be along. Will catch the other shows if the schedule permits but I am coaching baseball and playing in a basketball league. Weeknights are crammed.
  5. Thanks all - enjoyed the humor, too. DCTom - correct, I do not want to rebuild the roof - I'll search 'hot roof' or DYI - good suggestions.
  6. Thanks. Roof-line vents have been installed and the plywood floor does not extend to the walls so air flow should go over the insulation. I have a heat-activated power vent in my house attic but that is to vent the heat so that my second floor stays cool. I guess it is added flow for the garage but I was hoping the roof-line vents, insulation, and air flow would be adequate.
  7. I have a non-attached garage that is not conditioned. There is a large pull-down to a basic attic above it with a plywood floor on the trusses. I have heard two schools of thought: 1.) Since it is non-conditioned, insulating the attic (batt or inside the roof) will not make a difference; or 2.) Insulating the garage attic will significantly lower the the average temperature in the summer even if the garage is not conditioned. The garage door faces east (and is insulated) and the garage will be in sunlight most of the day. There are roof vents on the garage for heat release. If insulation will work in lowering the temperature a fair amount, I may store some additional items up there. Anyone with real-life experience on this? Thanks
  8. Hmmm.... Well here are a bunch of young, accomplished musicians and not a one mentioned a metal band. HBO - Music in Me Perhaps these kids are not considered prodigies (though they all are damn good), perhaps they all constitute that 1 out of 5 in the other survey. Just saying that there may be some question on how the data was presented. I have seen some recent published clinical results on the positive effects of Sage on Alzheimer's disease. But there were no controls in the study. So, the derivation of results from an uncontrolled study in a small sampling means that potentially anything could have contributed to the positive results. Heck, the few people who were part of the study may have been taking Namenda or an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. OK, I went off a little bit but my point is that presenting data to justify your means without independent, objective review is easy.

  11. Yes. A couple of places: Mijas, with a great view and food, and Torremolinos. Though the latter has gotten weird lately. But if you enjoy different, you might like it. Wherever you are, ask where the local, gorgeous women perform a Flamenco dance. The better the crowd, the better the dance. Southern Spain is known for its beautiful Flamenco dancers. Morocco is a another great place to visit. It depends who is with you, whether you/they know French/Arabic, have a friend who knows the area. Souks in any major city is the place to go to bargain for hand-made and other items. Driving is nuts and I would have a difficult time recommending it to an intrepid traveler. But, if you are experienced traveler, know how to conduct yourself, recognize situations, etc. then enjoy yourself. I have French relatives who live in Casablanca so they help me out. Have a great time.
  12. Well, when I think about the words to that song, it just messes up the experience of listening to it so usually pay no attention. But when I have considered them, it seemed to me that at some point in the song, they decided to randomly put words together. Either that or somebody broke out some good weed at the recording session. In any case, nearly everything that band did was top-notch. Not to highjack this thread but I see you are from St. Aug. I have heard that many ex-Corsicans have relocated there or vacation there. I have spent some time in Corsica and heard this from a few people there and wanted to know if you could vouch for it.
  13. Glad to join in. And belated congrats on your new job. It is textbook how you went about it and should be an inspiration to anyone in a similar situation.
  14. If you can wait that long, that should be more than adequate time to make that assessment. A lot of people are unable to wait that long. For example, I know some people who are having a difficult time managing pain since Vioxx was withdrawn. They have tried other analgesics but they have not been as effective. These people would be willing to accept the risk associated with Vioxx for the pain relief. However, if a similar analoque to Vioxx was released, they would probably try it right away to see if it was effective for them. Of course, the assumption is that this is all being performed and monitored under the care of a personal physician. And, no, I do not work for Merck.
  15. Could you elucidate a bit more? That can mean several things: a physician monitoring clinical compendium as they are submitted, someone studying the stability data, you could be dealing with suppliers, manufacturing, packaging, and labeling. The marketing staff is involved in analyzing this data. You could even be in IT, managing the databases/security where this data is located, or perhaps in QA/QC or compliance. End stage development could mean any number of things. If it is not obvious, I work for a pharmaceutical company. Actually, I have worked for several in both R&D and manufacturing. And, yes, I have some open positions...good analytical scientists, microbiologists, and formulators.
  16. Thanks, good for others. This was a question for the original poster. I am very well aware of the entire process - both domestically and internationally.
  17. So I pull out my keyboard and I pull out my glock, And I dismount your girl and I mount /proc You're outside your scope, son, close them curly brackets, 'Cause I drop punk-ass bitches like a modem drops packets. I run KILL DASH NINE, 'Cause it's MY time to shine So don't step outta line or else it's KILL DASH NINE! kill -9 lyrics
  18. Curious - what is your position in the company? Are you a Sr. Scientist, work in IT, Marketing, HR, etc.? There are many people who work in a pharmaceutical organization that do not have a good understanding of the development, pre- and post-market work (clinical studies, stability, etc.) that is involved.
  19. I will agree with your last statement but there is a time and a place for everything. Consider that their are those on the board that have friends and/or family in the service. This was not just any post nor a person's opinion.
  20. OK, I will help. This was your original post: This was my reply. This is another post I made prior to yours above (I have truncated it). Obviously, it is not bunk and you knew it prior to posting as you posted 54 minutes after this. Here's the post that Dean made which people called bunk. References to the above thread in other posts have been entertaining but simply not appropriate for what was posted here. Did you read what was posted? I feel your post is, at the very least, insensitive.
  21. Thanks much. As a follow-up: Operation Homecoming April 16 on PBS, including the author of the above story. Don't miss it.
  22. Your thoughtful reply and lines in your sig prompt me to be a dick. Check out the character, The Sphinx (Wes Studi), in Mystery Men. Here are a sampling of his lines in the movie: The Sphinx: We are number one. All others are number two, or lower. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sphinx: To learn my teachings, I must first teach you how to learn. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sphinx: You must lash out with every limb, like the octopus who plays the drums. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sphinx: He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sphinx: When you care what is outside, what is inside cares for you. and then the reply by Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller) to these inane sayings: Mr. Furious: Okay, am I the only one who finds these sayings just a little bit formulaic? "If you want to push something down, you have to pull it up. If you want to go left, you have to go right." It's... The Sphinx: Your temper is very quick, my friend. But until you learn to master your rage... Mr. Furious: ...your rage will become your master? That's what you were going to say. Right? Right? The Sphinx: Not necessarily.
