  2. I think it's hard to say until it becomes hindsight, but a wide variety of sources certainly rate him as a can't miss player. He looks very fluid, strong, and instinctual to me on the field and he plays with an edge. Somehow though I'm never quite able to completely remove Katzenmoyer (sp?) from my memory of Ohio State LB's.

  4. Teams are looking for "high Motor" coaches, and Cotrell didn't fit that bill.
  5. I suppose AW could be viewed more as a need pick, that's true. I agree with your outlook for '06, though if something awkward or unexpected were to happen in front of the Bill's 8 spot, I could see a situation where we take a guy like AJ Hawk due to him "dropping" to us and his high talent level. As long as the draft overall focusses mostly on the lines I will be happy. Of course FA is an opportunity to get a guy who won't have to learn on the job as well, and that's something to consider too.
  6. Ruben was a much better player here then many of you seem to realize. I won't get into the old Pro Bowl argument here, but he was always a dominant run blocker, a great pulling guard, and adequate (well beyond what we have now at G) in pass protection. He had far fewer flags on a year to year basis than all the jokes>turned Buffalo folklore seem to indicate. Was also a great community guy. Ruben was made a scapegoat here by the previous administration.
  7. Analyzing first round picks only certainly does not give any clear indication either way on what the priorities a GM/Coach involved in drafting may be. A better indication might be the entire draft, along with free agent pick-ups. 1st round picks to me are more often BPA picks than the "need" picks that tend to come in the following rounds.
  8. Thats just "Obie-speak" Fat = bad player Fat not mentioned = good player Even though all tackles expect for maybe 1 or 2 in the league are "fat".
  9. If he's not the fist O-lineman off the board, I will leave THIS board. There's a bet for ya! I could care less about the friggin' combine. It seems to make for more bust picks than it does helping find FOOTBALL PLAYERS. Your concerns about the running game are going to prove to be highly exaggerated IMO. His pass blocking technique is better than any I have seen coming into the league in a long, long time. Good technique doesn't get you beat. That's what it's all about.
  10. There are more successful NFL players from Miami in recent history than from any other school (probably combined, lol). Whether or not they are on police reports they seem to do pretty well on the field.
  11. 1. DANCING WITH MR. D (Rolling Stones, Goat's head soup)
  12. Schobel is actually a better DE than Hansen ever was. And if you look closer he doesn't dissapear for long periods in games like so many here seem to think for some strange reason. The RDE position is not only about getting sacks, it is about weak side containment, forcing the runners to cut inside. It is also about not allowing the QB to take too many deep drops and making him step up in the pocket into would-be pressure from the inside. Schobel does all of this with consistency against some very high level competition. The problem here goes back to the oiriginal poster's point. There's not enough help currently from the other positions along the D-line as Kelsay and Denney have both only been spot-players and our DT's are inadequate.
  13. If I'm Houston, I draft and sign as many offensive linemen as possible. Let Bush go to somebody else for more picks if possible. That's not gonna happen though...
  14. I agree with not trading up and all but if for some magical reason 'Brick fell to us at #8, believe me, he will be a Bill. People can take their measureables and shove 'em up their collective a$$es regarding this guy. He's got the best technique and footwork in all of the NCAA and has a high likelyhood of settling someone's blind side for the next 10 years. This is not a position of glamour, this is a position of getting the job done and he does it better than any in this class.
  15. Though the points about coaching and staff turnover are valid ones, the Bills have been considered one of the very best player-friendly organizations in the league for a good 10 to 12 years now. The facilities are among the better ones around as well. There are more examples to reflect upon of players coming here for a tad less than there are of over-paying for them.
  16. yep, decent like I said. "super-duper" = Urlacher, Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks and has less to do with season stat logs.
  17. Right. Either it's those two or forget the whole thing
  18. Shelton Quarels(sp?) for Tampa is decent but will never be confused for being super-duper, or even really good. Brooks is the guy on that team. He's at ROLB.
  19. Aren't all great run stuffing DT's overweight? I mean lets get real here....
  20. Agreed. They are talking about implmenting the cover 2 going forward, so there could be a member change or 2 coming on the D-line me thinks.
  21. He already reported (check the sound bytes) that he is completely willing to take a pay cut, whether he stays at tackle or moves to RG. Re: DT, I've heard stranger ideas that have worked before
  22. Which is why we are thankful to SDS for the ignore feature
  23. Why again are we using the Bengals as a defensive model ?
