  1. It’s one thing for Daboll to give him easy and well defined reads, quite another for opposing DCs, which is what it comes down to play after play. I’ve never been a fan of “simplifying” the offense. If your QB is smart and has an aptitude for the game, (and I believe Allen does), then go ahead and game plan for your opponent with the full playbook at your disposal to do so. It would be a shame if Daboll sees matchups he’d like to try to exploit and has certain schemes in his book to employ to do that only to have him eliminate those possibilities in order to dumb it down because he thinks his QB can’t handle it. That said, I agree that he should tailor the plan to what Allen does well. That doesn’t mean dumbing it down, though.
  2. Yes, it is. But when a QB is weak minded, it has devastating results for the other 51. And EVERYBODY else knows it. Peterman looked scared crapless yesterday. How can he command a huddle like that? He can't.
  3. I don't know about his mental toughness. He looked like he would rather have been anywhere else yesterday on that sideline. I wondered how he was commanding the huddle carrying himself that way.
  4. Yeah, well, he lied.
  5. I get your point, but just because Darnold has a better supporting cast is no reason to diminish his performance. But I'm most impressed with how he rebounded after embarrassing himself on the opening play. Mental toughness is a key component to QB play.
  6. As good as Darnold and his supporting cast have looked, I'm far more concerned about the Jets defense. They were good last year and have only gotten better it seems. Fast, tough, and relentless from snap to whistle, play after play after play. We better be ready to strap it when we play them.
  7. Well, Allen may very well not be as good, especially early on. He's a far less experienced QB, after all, and has a lesser supporting cast to boot. That's a very real possibility but certainly not something to fear. I like Allen's trajectory none the less. He's smart and level headed; two of the most desirable traits a QB needs, imo.
  8. The jealousy in this thread is strong. But why? We have our own young QB to rally around. Are we that insecure that we have to disparage a fine debut performance by another rookie QB? Are we arguing that it's not a "fine" debut performance? If that's the case, people don't know as much as they think they do.
  9. I appreciate the concern, but I don't see how you're gonna convince 31 other teams not to rush Allen as rushing the QB is a time honored defensive tactic. Maybe we can convince teams to count 3 Mississippi before rushing Allen.
  10. Go pound sand. I don't need to convince myself Beane didn't screw up about something in order to justify his decisions or not.
  11. Yeah, well that's part and parcel to a QB looking good, isn't it. I've never seen a QB look good all by himself.
  12. More like the Colts didn't have the balls to pick at 12 instead of at 6.
  13. I think the comparisons to Favre in that regard are apt.
  14. Great answer by the Jets.
  15. Especially while moving.
  16. I have NEVER understood the mentality that says you can't tip your hat to the other guy. Other teams have good players, too. Darnold shows a ton of promise and it's easy to see why he was taken where he was.
  17. Perhaps duress was over-stating it, but he was moving around in the pocket waiting for the play to develop and took advantage of a poor safety play in the process. You try taking a snap in an NFL game and tell me you don't feel some duress, regardless of how much time you have.
  18. It was great recognition because he saw the safety move up on the shorter route while he was keeping his eyes downfield while under duress and moving around trying to buy extra time. I disagree that most QBs would have seen and done the same thing because week after week for decades I've seen too many QBs NOT do that very same thing.
  19. As good as the throw and catch were, it was even better recognition by Darnold. He's good.
  20. I'd like a Jamal Adams, please.
  21. "McBeane's Gambit". Sounds like a chapter title and con game from 'The Sting.'
  22. Gotta tip my hat to Darnold with the way he responded to a hugely bad moment on a national stage for everyone to see. Well done, kid.
  23. They need to let him chase Allen around and sack him a few times in practice to make up for the preseason game.
  24. Jets are good on D.
