The devil is always in the details.
A late second vs early picks in 3 and 4 might be enough to agree to a trade. However, the talent dropoff seems to be in round 3 so getting a second is most likely getting a starter or a developmental QB.
Are you equating mean to demanding?
A coach can be a nice guy or a mean guy. He can be demanding to be the best or assume best will happen naturally.
The best combo is a nice guy who demand the most from the players. You can be demanding without being mean spirited or degrading.
A pretty safe bet. The trick is which one? If 1/5 is a hit, the miss rate is 80%.
This is why rational people can disagree on drafting a QB vs an impact player at another position.
So you know what the Bills need but the owner cannot? At the end of the day he is the owner and can direct his team accordingly. I have always wondered why people think football is different than business. I let my teams do their job but I am accountable. If i disagree, there is a discussion but i make the call.
Now before someone calls out the owner will be calling plays, that is obviously different than large decisions that impact the future of the team for a decade plus.
Let's look at this a different way.....
By all accounts, McDermott is a structured and disciplined coach. Will he be in favor of a QB who may not be in that mode? I think McDermott would be in favor of aggression but controlled aggression.
Seems simple does it not..........This is supported by 3 teams moving and the Bills were never in the mix. It feels good not to worry unless you are irrational.
Seems a bit like a reach - like when the Jags reached for Bortles. Bortles got the same type of pimping, has not worked out.
That said, high risk at 10. If a tradeback is possible, seems to be the best scenario in a deep draft.
I do not see these as opposing points of view. He has the right to protest. How he protested can easily be seen as disrespectful. So I can support his right to protest but I think he could have done it in a better way.
Based on his recent performance he is a marginal QB at best. Why would a business antagonize a portion of their fan base for a player who may not make the team/contribute little. They can get the same results on the field without the baggage.
He sees this himself as he is going to stop protesting. Did the situation change politically? In his world view it is worse. What has changed is no team is interested. The NFL has proven if they think you can help them win they will forgive almost anything,
