Point taken. We need talent and we're short of it. You look at a guy like McCargo and he's the same size as Fairley and you wonder what the Hell the difference is. Fairley looks to be just a pure D lineman and lined up next to KW you have like that.
Now that the game is over, I agree he's disruptive and talented. I'm still at at loss on the scheme Vs. talent argument. If Fairley is a 4-3 DT and we're running a 3-4 you have to decide if he can make the switch to DE. He's not a NT. Actually he's like KW. Apparently from what I'm reading, he won't be available at #3 anyway.
Fairley hasn't dominated by any stretch. He's not a NT and I'm not seeing the lateral moves to slide to DE. Looks like a 4-3 DT to me. Newton sure is big and strong with a big arm. Getting better as the game goes on.
The guy has already bristled at Revis' salary and wants to be the highest paid CB in the league. He's awesome, but that kind of jack is not in the cards when we need to spend it on the front seven this year. Who cares about DB's right now when we can't stop any team's ground game?
Good analogy. Kolb didn't light'em up when he was behind center and can't beat out dog-deatheater Vick. (BTW - right before the last Eagle drive I predicted he'd throw a pick because he's not a winner and when he has to rely on his arm, it will let him down 9 times out of ten)
So why give up all that we'd have to to get another possible Rob Johnson? Let's draft a QB and develop him behind Fitz. We need defense and plenty of it right now.
Said this on the other thread as well. I saw him play many times at the Rock Pile. Huge loss. He was a beast on the field and a good guy all around. I was young and Gilchrist, Kemp, Dubenion and Sestak were my heros. Rest in peace Cookie.

Thanks. Can't wait to watch tonight - one eye on Newton the other on Fairley.
I would tend to agree, but you have to give a nod to the scheme. Can the DT playing a 4-3 have the speed/power to rush and hol hold the point of attack and also have the lateral ability to pursue and stretch the run out? Same with a 4-3 DE moving to OLB.
He was that big early on in college but ran to lose the weight because he wanted to be an every down player with stamina, not a fat pig like Cody. TT has a massive frame. Our strength coaches are emphasizing squats and lower body power. With a year of training and a year of NFL under his belt, I bet he comes back in spring somewhere around 330-335 and that is plenty of size if it's power and not lard.
On this side of the state he's a nice player and head and shoulders over anything we've had for a decade. That said he's not elite. Still won't be cheap but a perfect signing for us.
Just watched BJ Ragi - big time 1st rounder with a couple of years under his belt - play a so so game. TT will progress nicely. He very young with the necessary frame to get bigger and stronger.
Yep. I should have kept reading before I posted because San Jose has it nailed.
Use your freakin' heads. Why would they not take a 3rd instead of a 4th? Glaser is a jerk and is wrong as much as he's right. But let's all pile on the FO. Don't beleive everything you read for crissake....
No to Alex Smith. We don't need a FB. Greenway is out of position in a 3-4, VJackson is a problem teamate and why sink so much jack on a position we look to be set at. The rest would be flat out awesome. Woodly, and a RT would make me pretty damn happy.
One run, albeit a beauty, doesn't a career make. He could be out of the league for good or suspended for many games with one more stupid drug, car or gun goof up. I'm happy for him and wish him well but all in all I'd rather have Freddy.
