The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
dpberr replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is definetly my speculation: 1. Vaccinated employees who are required to test on a consistent basis are creating a slew of false positives; 2. More PCR cycling shenanigans. It's odd to me that the increases are in states that do not require labs to publish the cycle revolution on your test. 3. Conspiracy theory: The media and .gov know #1 is the likely cause but drumming up a little drama to goose the vaccination rates. -
Bills have Iowa WR prospect Ihmir Smith-Marsette ranked high??
dpberr replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good route runner. With the professional coaching the NFL provides, he could be a great route runner. That makes all the difference. Ye shall not take a WR high in the draft that can't or won't consistently run precise routes. -
I tend to think Surtain will end up being quicker than some of those CBs because of his high football intelligence/instincts and being a more complete *football player* than them at this juncture. Less hesitation in interpreting what the offense is lining up to do and a faster uptake on understanding the nuances of the call on defense. I won't be surprised to see him go higher than 18th (in this scenario) on draft day because he's likely a first year starter at CB or FS.

What position you feel we need the most.
dpberr replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of the choices, I picked DE. I'd add the best outcome would be a DE who can *consistently* generate pressure either through brute strength and/or excellent technique. I don't think lightweight DEs that rely just on speed work well - today's tackles are strong and quick and can negate that speed advantage most of the time. I still would like a blue chip prospect at TE. -
In this scenario, I take PSII. High football intelligence, solid tackler. Teachable. I think he is a future starter at CB or S. At the bottom of my list is Rousseau. One hit wonder, opted out, and every profile says he's an exceptional athlete but a very raw football player in the skills department. These types of players rarely pan out.

Who had the Biggest One Year Wonder Season?
dpberr replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bengals were white hot in the 1988 season and the media fawned over their version of the no huddle. Scored a ton of points, went undefeated at home. They gave the all-powerful 49ers a legitimate battle in the Super Bowl and if it weren't for Jerry Rice's other wordly game, the Bengals probably would have won it. -
Thanks and Farewell to Matt Barkley
dpberr replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he was a good mentor to Josh Allen. Won't surprise me to see him become a fine coach in the future. Backup QB has to be one of the best jobs in the NFL next to team owner and cheerleader tryout executive. -
Who had the Biggest One Year Wonder Season?
dpberr replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a fun topic. I'll add some: Scott Mitchell, QB, Detroit Lions, 1995 season. He threw for over 4,000 yards. Chris Borland, LB, 49ers, 2014 season. He had 100+ tackles that season and then abruptly retired. John Stephens, RB, Patriots, 1988 season. Gets his one and only Pro Bowl nod and wins ROTY in his first season rushing for nearly 1,200 yards. Plays for a couple more seasons, never eclipses 1k again. -
Nerdist made a funny spoof trailer for a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek on YouTube. It's pretty spot on for how that movie would look. "The Captain's log isn't the only wood he's packing." "Mr. Spock. Half Vulcan. Half Human. Full Killing Machine." "Star Trek: Voyage to Vengeance"

I'm impressed by his decision as a person and player. 99% of quarterbacks taken second overall would never accept a backup QB job so early in their career. I think the Bills will make him a better QB.
-
I agree. If it were my money being spent, I'd be comfortable with a 1+option year type of deal. I'm all for adding a variety of skill sets at RB. Just wouldn't want to be on the hook for a lot of guaranteed money.

What Team Do FA's Not Want to Go To ?
dpberr replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd offer Green Bay isn't a top tier destination for FA. Weather aside, it's the cult of Aaron Rodgers there and they never seem to be big spenders since Rodgers alone accounts for nearly 21% of their available cap space. The Bengals haven't won a playoff game since 1990 and only offer terrible weather, terrible uniforms, terrible track record in drafting and a miserly owner. To the plus side, Joe Burrow may right the ship there, the stadium is pretty nice and it appears they've done some good work on the new uniforms. -
He's always been a productive running back. It's just that you're always on borrowed time with him unfortunately. Hard runner, elusive. As others have said, he's cranked out 1,000 yard seasons in a middling Broncos offense. The issue is that he has a LONG history of significant knee injuries. Has torn ACLs in high school, college and in the NFL. Those knee injuries now may be affecting his hips as those too now are getting dinged to the point he missed games over them. I'd speculate that his career longevity isn't fantastic and the Broncos didn't want to invest long-term and he's looking for that long term contract.

Khalil Mack vs. Danielle Hunter. Who do we like more?
dpberr replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both players are great. I picked Mack. His contract is a known quantity and I think Chicago is desperate to clear contracts and accumulate picks, whether it's for another shot at Wilson or to move up in the draft. I don't think NFL players with neck injuries have long post-injury careers. Hunter probably has 2, maybe 3 years under the very best of circumstances. That'd be just fine if you were absorbing an existing contract with that sort of timeline and where the current team has paid out some of it. In this scenario, however, not only will you part with some pretty significant assets in a trade, you also now have to navigate negotiations with this player who wants his first big new contract. The agents would negotiate hard to get a lot of that money paid out in year 1. If he'd have to retire after just one season due to injury, that's a mountain range of dead cap for as far as the eye can see. -
Mary Ellis Bunim is the most responsible party for not only the Kardashians but all of the "Married at First Sight" and "90 Day Fiance" crap. She passed away in 2004 but she was the mastermind of "The Real World" and "The Simple Life" which gave wannabe celebrities and fame seekers the idea they could actually monetize their lousy personalities. In many respects, she made low-budget soap operas with the talent that used to populate Jenny Jones, Rikki Lake, Sally Jessie, Jerry Springer and Carnie!

The Mario Williams free agency courtship is one of my fondest memories as a member of this community. The plane tracking. The restaurant surveillance. Buddy Nix psychology assessments. It was awesome.

Who Are the Best Remaining Pass Rushers on Day 2 of FA?
dpberr replied to Fred Slacks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not my money, but if it were, I wouldn't invest in old pass rushers, players that have been blatantly stealing paychecks (Clowney), and guys who go all-pro in their contract year (Reddick). I suspect the league as a whole doesn't trust Reddick's 2020 performance to be sustainable, and that's perhaps a reason why he remains unsigned. -
Gronk Considered signing with Bills
dpberr replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gronk is a smart football player. He knows and accepts that he has had the most success with Tom Brady. Why screw it up? I don't understand players who decide on their own to leave great playing environments over a couple bucks. -
Surprised. I thought he might retire. I think other FAs can throw the ball consistently for 16 games. Newton wasn't capable of doing that last season.

What are the chances we resign Milano?
dpberr replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd put it at 50-50. Higher than I thought a few weeks ago. He may opt to sign a 1 year contract and do free agency next year when teams will be less hesitant to spend money. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
dpberr replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The state of emergency is good business for state government bureaucracy. There is every incentive to keep it alive so that the federal government continues shoveling money to the states to prop up pensions and pay for all sorts of stuff. The stimulus bill reflects it. NY state is set to receive nearly $24 billion in cash with no strings. If the federal government told the healthcare industry and the states that no more federal money is coming their way because of COVID, states would open up within the hour. -
I voted no in consideration of a scenario where the Bills would have that one magical SB season where it'd all come together. I think a one off SB win doesn't top sustained success and dominance like the 1990s Bills had. Is Doug Pederson the best coach in Eagles history because he hit pay dirt one year? I think the McDermott era would, at minimum, have to have the Bills of the 2020s stringing together division titles and AFC division and championship games.

This will make for an interesting off-season of 1-year deals and trades.

He's an exhausted elderly man and I expected to start seeing signs of fatigue about 3 months in to his term. The pandemic and a fawning press allowed him to rest, recoup and stay relatively crisp without much interference or questions being asked. The grinding requirements of being POTUS allow no such respite for anyone who holds that office. You'll see him drop out of sight for a few days before his first press conference.
