  1. I think the Bills are an enigma this season. So many new variables. If fans, who follow this team down to the most finite of details have predictions all over the board and such a wide variety of opinion on how good the team is, national sports media are truly out in the dark and simply guessing.
  2. Not necessarily. Suppose it matters on how you define "making money". Teams may have plenty of sales revenue, but little profit after paying down their massive debt service. In the Bills case, they have a better shot at turning a buck at the end of the season since they have very little to no debt to pay off. In the case of the Jets, Giants, Patriots, etc. that revenue just gets recycled into paying down massive debt. You add in lackluster ticket sales due to a lousy economy, teams will tap into reserves to pay down their debt. The NFL has a huge debt crisis that will impact the upcoming CBA and plenty of teams. The Bills are in good shape to weather the storm that other franchises will not.
  3. Every team is going to lose money this year. No NFL team is going to make money in this nightmare of an economy. Not this year. Not with the middle class essentially tapped out financially or unemployed. Be happy that the Bills will weather the storm better than some of their counterparts, regardless of on the field performance.
  4. I'm a Gailey fan. Thought it was an excellent hire, and haven't been disappointed. Wilson went out and got a proven winner. And that's exactly what he's going to do.
  5. I trust Gailey's analysis of the quarterbacks based on his previous track record and how Trent Edwards has gained confidence since the first preseason game. Perhaps Levi Brown doesn't have *it* in Gailey's opinion. I'm comfortable with that. Based on the Bills' injury bug of the past few seasons, I'm surprised the entire practice squad isn't OL and LB. ;-)
  6. Cut? No. Traded? Good shot at that happening, given that you've got Jackson, Spiller and Bell at RB. I'd just hope the Bills would part with Lynch for a player at a position of need versus picks.
  7. Who's Bill Simmons? After finding out that the one prognosticator of Buffalo's forthcoming doom just graduated from college last year, (an article posted yesterday) it further cements my opinion that I'm jealous that I can't get paid to write opinion, and present it as fact to a national audience.
  8. Tight End is a glaring weakness. It's not a question of wanting to upgrade. There is a *need* to upgrade there.
  9. No reason to keep Hardy. Often injured, when on the field, does not impress.
  10. Foschi, Howard and Lankster have to go.
  11. I think the dumping of Faneca was related solely to money; not an endorsement of Ducasse. Can't keep everybody, and the Jets are ultra-cash strapped with debt up to their eyeballs as one of the most (if not the most) leveraged team in the NFL. It's the forthcoming financial apocalypse. The Jets have to go all in. They desperately need to sell as many tickets as possible to offset the stratospheric debt. If the Jets tank on the field, that will seriously cripple the entire organization and their ability to pay talent going forward. I know we talk primarily about what happens on the field, but in this economy, teams are winning and losing off the field as well. If teams aren't going to get the ticket sales, that debt has to be paid somehow, and that will likely translate in spending less on the field over the next five years. It will be financially-induced rebuilding. If you're the Bills, with zero debt, that presents an opportunity to get stronger on the field.
  12. Schefter continues down a perilous road for his career. Instead of reporting news, he's creating it and being *it*. That's great if you run your own blog, but it only takes a few major whiffs and a few calls from NFL front offices to get the networks and the NFL Network to start taking notice of your lack of credibility and increasing liability as "just another guy".
  13. Living in Eagles land, where it's Eagles 24/7, I don't think the Eagles will be as good as the media is forecasting. The team has holes on defense, very inconsistent offensive line, untested running backs, and an untested QB. Buffalo has looked better moving the ball in the preseason than the Eagles have in three games.
  14. Another vote for the 1972 Dolphins. Especially celebrating every year after the last undefeated team well, becomes defeated. Haha. No franchise, team, coach or mediocre franchise restaurants celebrate such an irrelevant accomplishment for so long. I wish somebody would go undefeated just to make them go away.
  15. +1. If you want pressure on the QB, he's your guy. Plus, he'd love to stick it to the Patriots.
  16. Sam Hurd is the best of that list.
  17. It is absolutely ridiculous how great Barry Sanders was as a player.
  18. Jon Gruden says more: "Too many high-profile, great players. And if they don't win more than 10 games, they got a lot of explaining to do." Don't let Dan Snyder and the performance of the Washington Redskins for the last ten years enter into your analysis.
  19. Does the League control over when a team changes its jerseys, colors, etc? It is refreshing to see that the other leagues, especially the NBA, are ditching the 90s and 00s nightmares for simpler or more retro looks. Wish the NFL would follow.
  20. Oh I do. They don't have a window of losing a year to the tomfoolery of Leinart and Anderson behind Center. I think they will be definitely looking for a QB before the beginning of the season, most specifically Sage Rosenfels. Fitzpatrick? Ehh. Only if Plans A and B fall through.
  21. Alan Faneca Adam Pacman Jones Charlie Whitehurst Willis McGahee Mike Vrabel Lito Sheppard Deion Branch As for the Bills, the big surprise to the media would be Cornell Green, but no real surprise to anybody who's watched the preseason games.
  22. I don't know what to think about the Washington story. It's intriguing that a national media source such as ESPN writes an in-depth, positive article on a guy who is a convicted sex offender. It intrigues me that no NFL team, playing in a win at all costs league, will not kick the tires on the guy. If you consider all of the other pure garbage players bring (spousal abuse, dogs, attempted murder, DUI, manslaughter) to the league, and the league tolerates, it decides to draw the line on the sand for this guy, who's crime was previous to his entry in the league. I just don't get it. Things don't add up here. It makes you wonder if NFL Security did it's homework, and there's something there, something ominous and radioactive that we all don't know.
  23. I laugh at Pete Carroll's secret plan to reconstitute the USC Trojans team in Seattle. I feel for Arizona fans. They have all that weaponry on the field, legitimate contenders and it all lives or dies on Senor Hottub and Shotgun Arm.
  24. I think Hardy is very expendable if: 1. He gets injured. Again. 2. There are WRs released from other teams that interest the front office.
