  1. That had to be one helluva awkward phone call. "Yeah, yeah we know....that we cut you, didn't sign you to the practice squad, and all but forgot about you...but we'd *love* to have you back. What do you say?"
  2. Total trap game for the Jets. They always play lousy at RWS. Why not start this Sunday?
  3. If the Bills would make a trade for Kevin Kolb, you'd have the national media types falling over themselves congratulating Buffalo on a job well done. The national media are equivalent to somebody who bases all football opinions on playing Madden. Getting rid of somebody who can't get the job done...is a good enough plan for me as a fan.
  4. +1. Trent looked different in preseason. Hell, the whole offense looked better in preseason than it showed in the Miami and GB games.
  5. The team got rid of an employee that wasn't getting it done. Happens everyday in America. Perform or get cut. Unless you work for the federal government. I appreciate that Nix and Gailey have the fortitude to make tough decisions. PFT will make this a bigger story than it really is for anybody not named Trent Edwards.
  6. All of what NaPolian says is why I can't understand why they played the 4/2/5 yesterday. I know it's popular and all, and simple to pick up, but it sucked yesterday. Yesterday's game got me thinking about how important scheme is. What did the Bills run in the game against the Patriots last year (opener) and the infamous game against the Cowboys back in 2008? Anybody remember? Just curious. I recall from the Cowboys game that some of the time, the linemen would be standing up, not in stance.
  7. Depends on the draft. If there is a can't miss second coming of Anthony Munoz sitting there, the Bills would have to take him.
  8. Can the Jets be beat? Yes. They always play down to their competition. Outside of the Packers, the Dolphins and the Patriots were both beatable teams with games that the Bills were in until the 4th quarter. The key is getting after Sanchez, but you need a pass rush to do that. That's the problem. If the Bills use that lousy nickel scheme they used yesterday, that's not going to do it. I don't know why the Bills went with the 4/2/5 nickel as often as they did yesterday. It clearly wasn't effective. Gailey made adjustments that worked yesterday. George Edwards needs to do the same and we can beat the Jets.
  9. Now that the offense has *somewhat* been figured out with today's showing, the defense scheme confuses the hell out of me. I have no idea why guys like Troup, Carrington, Moats or even McCargo are not even given a shot to show something and see if they can get a pass rush started. I know Stroud is a name, but he's awful in the 3-4.
  10. I'd be floored if they got anything for him in a trade. Only way I see him involved in a trade is if he's packaged with somebody else. I'd say cut him. He's taking up a roster spot the Bills could use for a QB that has potential.
  11. Jason Campbell beyond a doubt. Apples to oranges here in comparing him to Edwards. Not only was he picked in the first round by Washington, the Redskins traded an immense amount of pick value (one in 2005, 2 in 2006) to get him. Then, Oakland parted with a 4th rounder to get him, just to bench him two games into the season. Edwards on the other hand was a 3rd round lottery ticket. The Bills didn't trade up nor trade for him. Just didn't work out.
  12. Anybody who thought Owens was a factor last year or would be a game-changer this year plays too much Madden and doesn't watch enough live games. Even with Carson Palmer and another wide receiver to take the double team off of him, he's only got 110 yards with 10 catches. I don't fault Nix for not resigning him. As for Schobel, he was done playing football regardless if Buffalo played a 3-4 or 4-3.
  13. I'll take C) The quarterback that does not run out of bounds on 4th and 11 down by a ton of points in the 4th quarter.
  14. That would be the irony, wouldn't it? The Bills win the Superbowl in a lockout, season-shortened year, with replacement players.
  15. In the world of possibilities, it'll be the 2004 draft all over again. The Bills will trade the #1 for a slew of picks. I still think the Bills will draft a top QB, but will try to answer the LT position with the leverage of trading the #1 slot.
  16. I like Kevin Kolb. Buffalo probably would have something of interest to the Eagles, i.e. Lynch. Apparently the Browns already smell blood in the water. However, being tortured in the Eagles media market as I have been, they won't trade Kolb until Vick and McCoy show they can repeat their performances from the Eagles/Lions game, now that the NFC East is much more open than previously thought before the season started. The Eagles have as much a shot as anybody now. The switch and commitment to Vick is quite odd, and seems out of character for Andy Reid.
  17. The more film a team has on Vick, the less effective Vick becomes. The Eagles will learn the lesson the Falcons did. I wasn't a big fan of Vick to Buffalo. Not due to his personal transgressions, but that once you figure him out, he's very one-dimensional. The Lions had about a half a game of Vick to study. Vick hadn't played any meanigful, consistent down after down football in over two years. Now teams have an entire game of Vick to watch. Things will be different. Just like Seattle. Everyone was saying how awesome Seattle was after Week 1. That's because there was no film on Carroll or any of his assistants, and preseason is all vanilla packages and coverages. Denver had a week to study his game, and made the adjustments. This time next week, Philly fans will be waiting in line for the Kolbwagon or in full panic.
  18. When did the NFL allow trades with the UFL or CFL?
  19. I'm not sure Chan Gailey has ever had a moment of panic in his life.
  20. Fitzpatrick did more with less last year, and as I posted yesterday, that video of Fitzpatrick's throw to Owens during the Jacksonville game graphically demonstrates the differences between Fitzpatrick and Edwards. Fitzpatrick attempted that throw. Edwards wouldn't have dared. The change in quarterbacks was the right move. And yes, it will make a difference.
  21. Are the Packers the only viable trade partner for Lynch? I look at what they have to offer, and it's meh. AJ Hawk? Pass. Backup TE? Pass. I'm all for trading him before free agency.
  22. The difference between RF and TE. For Fitzpatrick, the football field extends beyond 5 yards.
