  1. Get it settled. A lockout would set the NFL back years. My nightmare for a lockout draft in 2012 would be a model based on the NBA lottery.
  2. For folks that want to take Green at #3, how do you propose to fix the run defense, which took us out of so many games last year?
  3. Kiwanuka would be pretty good as an OLB in the 3-4. It's just that his injury is a cervical disc injury, and that's quite serious.
  4. This revolution is all for show. The Egyptian military is the alpha dog in that country. It's well financed, well equipped, with an outstanding intelligence network. Every President of Egypt is former military. Sadat was assassinated by elements within the Army. Mubarak is former Air Force. His new VP is former Army. All of what you see...the riots, the attacks on western press, etc. is all casus belli of the big bad military crackdown soon coming. As long as the military runs the country, groups like the Brotherhood will be lucky to remain a relevant political organization and not to end up dead, in prison, or on the run. This revolution could be put down in ten minutes. It soon will. Just have to build enough cover story for the coming brutality.
  5. Time to be Debbie Downer on Pegula. http://www.mcall.com/news/local/carpenter/mc-paul-carpenter-team-owners-20110203,0,6567425.column I think Wilson has had a succession plan for a long time. I think it's been kept private because fans will probably hate it as it swaps out one type of uncertainty (does he have a plan?) with different uncertainty (what will his daughters do? Sell?) and Wilson does not want to subject his two daughters to the media and fan circus it'd create.
  6. +1. Already know how this movie ends.
  7. I'm not saying Fitzy is the long term answer. I'm saying that the defense, especially the nightmarish run defense, is the question that must be answered through the draft and FA this year. That's where any resource, including draft picks, should go. Stuffing the run.
  8. I like the idea of the worst of the NFL going up against the BCS champion. Or NFL vs. UFL.
  9. The Bills can upgrade their LB and TE real quick this year and I hope they spend their money there. It's a toss up between Miller and Lewis at TE. Either would be a coup for the Bills.
  10. Unless Kolb can stop the run, I'm not interested in giving away draft picks for him. Fitzpatrick bought himself at least 2011.
  11. 1. The very best of the NFL takes on the very best of college football. 2. Move it back to the continental United States. New location every year. 3. Require teams to use certain play packages, as voted on by the fans. Defense can only use schemes from the 70s, offense from the 80s, etc. 4. Losing team pays the winning team. 5. Winning conference "wins" the coin flip for the next year Super Bowl.
  12. Miller is not good at stopping the run and there is no getting around that. This is why I don't see the interest at selecting him at #3. This team needs to stop the run. There are excellent players to chose from that help with that.
  13. My thoughts: There are two franchises, run by elderly owners that are in complete disarray, and neither of them are Buffalo. He won't coach this year. He'll probably have his pick of places next year.
  14. Maybin does not have football smarts or intuition for the game, and that can't be taught. No team is going to be able to turn the lights on. For the hell of it however, I would have spent this offseason trying to see if he could be a TE.
  15. It would be fun (or depressing) to compare Modrak's picks and the ones ultimately selected.
  16. He might. The Jets have serious cap issues, and somebody is going to walk. They have the following players that are free agents: Shaun Ellis Steve Weatherford Brodney Pool Tony Richardson Braylon Edwards Wayne Hunter Trevor Pryce David Harris Robert Turner Nick Folk Antonio Cromartie Lance Laury Santonio Holmes Eric Smith Brad Smith James Ihedigbo Drew Coleman Kellen Clemens Marquice Cole Michael Turkovich Marcus Dixon They would also have to do a ton of unlikely contract restructuring to sign all those guys.
  17. Get me David Harris, Zach Miller and Marcell Dareus. Harris is an absolute must have, and the top priority FA.
  18. It's hard to get worked up over. This happens in a lot of NFL franchises. I do have a problem in promoting anyone having a "key role" in the Toronto series debacle.
  19. Why would the Bills FO take a linebacker that high who's biggest liability is defending the run? Just doesn't make sense to me.
  20. I hate that draft. Miller at #3? No way.
  21. Ironically, this will probably be the reason why the Bills pass on Whitner. I can't envision the FO being pleased whatsoever with a member of the team wanting to box a member of the media. This is the sort of thing that breaks the camel's back. Not like I care. I'd rather George Wilson.
  22. The signing of Reggie White put Green Bay on the map.
  23. I sorta see the Bears/Packers vs. Jets Super Bowl akin to the 1987 Miami vs. Penn State "Good versus Evil" Fiesta Bowl Game.
  24. Outstanding move. Love it.
  25. There is a difference between being "cheap" and foolishly signing coaches to contracts that can paralyze you for years into the future. I've heard the "Wilson is cheap" argument for years, but started considering how the structure of the contract plays into it when I read an article where some players keep getting paid for decades into the future by their former teams solely based on how they set up the contract when they sighed with the team. We never know as fans if these "hot" coaches (Shanahan, Cowher) insist on some ridiculous deferred compensation clause where a team pays them literally for decades, or so much of the contract is guaranteed. Why, as an owner, would you want to pay an employee decades after he was last an employee for your company? Why would you submit to paying a guy the bulk of his salary years after he was lousy and only lasted on the job a year? This might extend to any coach you interview and hire. It's not always about the amount of money. We just never know if it's money=money between two contracts. I doubt it's that simple. If Wilson has avoided the big names because of things like that, I credit, not criticize him for keeping the team out of contract hell.
