Can we re-negotiate Tyrod's contract?
BigBuff423 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But for me, that's like saying we can't take a risk on a young developing QB because we don't know what he's capable of, yet that's the very reason you take the young QB...?? Favre wasn't Favre until he did it, Brady was a 6th round also-ran until injury forced him into the role...the list goes on. You take a good QB in the Draft, let him learn the Offense and develop for a year or two, and get a bridge QB who is a POCKET PASSER that can move WITHIN the pocket instead of breaking contain....a tall, pocket passer that can read Defenses (to me) would generate even more Offense and a much improved passing game. As for Offense not being the problem, well to some degree that's flawed. Look at the Oakland game, first Miami game, first Jets game, 2nd Pats game....these were games where WRs were running open and TT couldn't get them the ball, he does not allow for too many YAC because of poor ball placement and controlling the clock, keeping the Bills Defense on the bench, was the KEY to winning, but TT couldn't do it....so, yes, Defense is CERTAINLY an big issue, but those issues were exacerbated by a poorly run Offense by a QB that cannot continue to function within the boundaries of an NFL system.....again, all IMHO. -
Can we re-negotiate Tyrod's contract?
BigBuff423 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally, I don't want a mobile QB...I want a strict pocket-passer who can mentally adjust to the NFL game and read Defenses, see Manning and Brady. As for making bad decisions...really? So, young QBs can't develop? Really? Um, ok. And I'm not beating the drum for Glennon, just used him as an example. As for Tyrod, I want no part of him in a Bills uniform next year for any reason....but, that's me. -
I don't want a running QB, I want a tall, pocket-passer with the feel and presence of a QB who can move WITHIN the pocket, not break contain....as for least turnovers, yeah, that would be great if he was also throwing into coverage, leading receivers open, and tossing for a ton of TDs, but he's not doing any of those things....it's easy to keep the turnovers low when you're not taking calculated chances...foolish is one thing, brave is another.

I respectfully disagree, as I see the BILLS picking up the option on Taylor with the same sentiment you expressed....to me, Tyrod is NOT a good NFL QB but an incredible athlete with immeasurable physical gifts....however, I think the Bills will sign a relatively younger vet (see Glennon, Mike) and draft one somewhere in the first 2 rounds for the second or third year.

I think the predication is a bit far-fetched, but the premise of giving him a legit opportunity after spending some time learning and developing is a decent one. I would not be ready to hand him the reigns to the Offense, but I also think he was doomed from the start when Moron and company threw him to the wolves with nothing more than a jar of peanut butter and a spoon. He needed to take time, build confidence and develop his timing...but instead due to a slippery mat, he was forced to develop / learn while under fire. Such a thing works for some QBs, arguably the best ones, but for others it simply does not. I was not a fan of EJ when he was playing and voiced as much, but I'd be willing to see if he can do better with a stronger run game, better overall Offensive line and some decent WRs to throw to - a more professional Sammy should help, despite the nagging injury. Additionally, there's Clay and Shady.

Can we re-negotiate Tyrod's contract?
BigBuff423 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally, I don't want it re-negotiated, I just want Tyrod to take the exit door. Re-structuring simply enables the problem at a lower cost, it doesn't solve the lack of passing issues for Tyrod or this team. If Glennon becomes available via FA, sign him, Draft a quality QB with real NFL potential, and let Glennon be the bridge. He has gotten a raw deal - but I think he's the kind of QB that Buffalo could win with now, IF and it's a huge a** IF, the next HC and DC can bring the Defense back to life.....doesn't have to be top 5, but top 10....all other factors remaining pretty constant, and Glennon is the "type" of QB that can win in Buffalo, IMHO. -
HC - Darrell Bevell - research his resume before you throw poop on this one....too much to type, but impressive from his Favre days in Minnesota, to being publically acknowledged by Carroll for Drafting and developing Russell Wilson. He has adapted from a Rookie QB who needs to roll the pocket with a strong running game, to a passing QB and Offense, and frequently with a less than stellar O-line since the GM trades them or doesnt value them enough to Draft them home high. As for OC, DC - let him choose

Rex Told Lynn That Lynn Would Be The Next Head Coach
BigBuff423 replied to birdo67's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would definitely hope Cooter was a guy on the short list for interviews, along with Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta, Bevell out of Seattle ( I said a lot about him during the last Coaching search so I won't this time, but take a look through the interwebs, some interesting stuff out there about him and what he's done), and yes, Josh McDaniels if he'll even take the call. I really believe the next HC needs to be a guy with a team-wide vision but a bent toward Offensive philosophy and capability, as well as a HC who can develop a QB. It's a must IMHO -
Breaking News: Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan Fired
BigBuff423 replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read that as well, and for the reasons I just covered I won't repeat myself so as not to sound redundant. But, I fear without some checks-and-balances this could end up equally miserable and catastrophic. -
Breaking News: Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan Fired
BigBuff423 replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand what you're saying, and I agree in that there shouldn't be 50 people making this decision, but Whaley still has the stench of Rex on him and while I've been a Whaley supporter / apologist for a couple years now, it's starting to wear on me about some of his decisions; notably the QB and HC. So, if a Czar comes in and helps bring some balanced perspective, I think that's a positive thing. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a well-established hierarchy and understanding if that occurs, just that giving Whaley carte blanche at this point doesn't really appeal to me as much as it may have prior to the Rex hire. -

Good news. I like doing it now, they can get a jump on candidates, as well as bringing in a "Czar". -
This game just showed that Tyrod is not the #1 problem

You're getting shouted down by people afraid to swing for the fences. I, for one, am ready to puke from all the mediocrity, take a big swing on the best educated guess on a QB with huge potential and go for it. I happen to be one who agrees that the potential for regression against the potential for significant gain - especially over the long term - is worth it. Give me an accurate, tall pocket passer who has some arm strength and the mental capacity to read a Defense and hopefully the balls to lead....do whatever necessary to get THAT guy. I also often wonder: had E.J not been subject to Coach Moron, would he have succeeded somewhere else? Will never know - but this is where I think Coaching is everything and also why I believe Rex needs to go. -
WIVB Josh Reed: Rex knows he's fired

BigBuff423 replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm hoping you're right to all of this....mostly Rex gone and Coughlin in as "czar". Whaley has done some good things and failed in other areas, but I would be willing to give him another / last opportunity to work WITH Coughlin to identify HC and work another Draft - FA period to determine if he has the chops to see talent appropriately - most notably at the QB position and develop a roster properly utilized by the coaching staff. Having Coughlin on board would allow a fresh perspective as to IF the new HC and staff are doing just that, using talent in its proper place and with coaching that improves that talent translating to wins. -
So here is my question (Offense and Taylor)
BigBuff423 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The solution is the age old solution: the BILLS need to draft one....and all this "there aren't any" is pure doggy do-doo. In the year Russell Wilson was Drafted many said "too short", this year Dak, in other years Brady, Romo, etc. The point is: your scouting department should be able - at this point - to identify a QB or two who can be "that" guy to lead this team for the next decade or more. Every year there is a QB who exceeds expectations for one reason or another. Somewhere in the 2017 Draft, there is that same type of QB waiting to emerge, scouting department needs to make it the highest priority maybe at the expense of all other positions because it is the single greatest need of any franchise in any sport - and until Buffalo satisfies this issue, they will also be mediocre at best or an utter failure, year after year. -
This game just showed that Tyrod is not the #1 problem
BigBuff423 replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't argue the "Offense" is the problem - quite the opposite in my mind - Tyrod as QB is THE problem. Receivers are and were getting open, even the less notable receivers, Clay has been open most of the year, the running game is working and if Tyrod didn't break out of the pocket as often, pass protection would be average at worst to good at best. However, leaving receiving yards on the field, failing to hit open receivers, not use the middle of the field, very inaccurate throws high, low and wide have been a persistent issue for him. So, I'd say the "Offense" has been productive DESPITE Tyrod, certainly not because of him. -
So here is my question (Offense and Taylor)
BigBuff423 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do the great teams solve Defense issues?? They have a Franchise caliber QB. There are a number of recent examples so I don't need to go through them all - but a great QB can literally carry a team....Tyrod cannot. -
This game just showed that Tyrod is not the #1 problem
BigBuff423 replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To say that he's not the number one problem as if that somehow validates keeping him as a QB makes zero sense to me since he is absolutely "part" of the problem that needs to be addressed. Coaching, QB, Defense all need to be addressed in a way that shows commitment to excellence, not mediocrity. -

PFW: Tom Coughlin the favorite to replace Rex Ryan
BigBuff423 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's hard to argue against Coughlin except for his age, which is not a minor thing, but who am I to say he can't do it?? I would hope he'd know well enough. Also, while I don't think he's innovative or Offensive minded the way I'd like, his history of getting players to be better disciplined is a real positive after years of such issues like penalties and stupid game moves by players, not to mention poor game management....all the things the last couple of Bills' HCs have struggled with....so, if it's him, I'd remain a little skeptical but at least I'd try to see the upside. -

Watch Rex really close. I think he has been already told.
BigBuff423 replied to Iraq Vet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been a Whaley apologist for at least a year pointing to some of his finds in Jerry Hughes, John Miller, Preston Brown and Zack Brown. However, the single most important position - QB - he has failed to address in a significant way. IMHO, EJ was Nix's pick, I've had that opinion since he was Drafted and have said this often on this board. However, Tyrod is definitely Whaley's pick - be it by acquiescence or by active participation - and the lack of secondary / Safety depth is also his....add in the overvalue of Watkins in Draft currency, and I think I've finally come to the side that says, unless there is a total demolition from top to bottom, I don't think there is any appreciable movement toward a championship in the next 2-4 years. -
If Rex is fired, does a team hire him as DC?
BigBuff423 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In my opinion, Rex is given another chance somewhere to be a Defensive Coordinator, but do I think he will be successful? I really don't think so....I truly believe Rex's coaching career is an example of perfect timing where the right players were in attendance for him to make his Defense work...and in Baltimore he was a part of staff who also had incredible, including Hall of Fame, players that allowed the system to work. So, I'd say IF (and God I hope so) he's fired, he finds a DC job at some point in 2017 or 2018, and I do think he loves football and loves to be around the men who play the game - so, IMHO, I think he takes that job.... -

I should have been more specific to say that Flutie was a bandaid to the problem in regards to a long-term solution. He was a bridge to nowhere...
