  1. Being a Bills fan is infuriating for two main reasons: Bills and Bills fans. People complain when they retain the same staff, then complain when they fire everyone, then complain with basically every hire they make, and finally complain when others outside the Bills organization are providing positive outlook BECAUSE of those changes....wow....so, have they won anything? Well duh - NO, but neither has anyone else. How about this: we take it as a glimmer of hope, a sign of good changes from all the other re-washed bull-sparkle that's been given to us before, and that we are waiting to see how it turns out...? That's too much to ask? Really? We're not allowed to be encouraged and yet, not ready to load up the gravy train...c'mon on.
  2. This makes a lot of sense....good to see, hopefully it amounts to a bottom line signature.
  3. First thing I was thinking as well....time will tell.
  4. Glenn has definitely been the unsung hero of the Offensive line the last couple years. I normally would be concerned about him being ready for the season or getting practice reps given his Vet status, but due to the new Offensive system (again!) it would seem pretty important to get him going. However, also better to be safe and wait than sorry and be left with a real issue at LT.
  5. years ago, you put your Rookie in and let him learn as he went....but everyone knew that meant mistakes and moments of frustration....today, everyone must win now. This is the hard part of being a Bills fan...we know it's not McD's fault or Beane's but the benefit of the doubt they would get with nearly any other franchise (except the Browns), they fail to get from us
  6. He was Drafted in 2005, behind a HOF QB...so, factually inaccurate relative to the article and not even close when comparing his situation to virtually that of every other save Joe Montana and Steve Young.
  7. ^^^^Yolo, this is what I was referring to.....jeff might have been alone in that debate, but I seem to recall a number of others who were of similar thinking / philosophy. But, at this point it doesn't really seem worth the effort to debate or argue...I like the way it's going.
  8. In addition to good info on Allen, I find it interesting that this piece also stated the Chiefs waited until after the Draft to fire their scouts and hire their own personnel....something many on this message board were flaming away at the Bills for doing...also, I like this hire presuming it comes to fruition. I really like this move especially in light of all the other personnel moves they've done so far. If it holds, this to me signals once more there is a new direction at OBD.
  9. I have nothing to offer in forms of "proof", but I still think Holmes and Zay are the boundary WRs with Sammy in the slot, to get him into space and do screens, YAC type of routes...much like he did at Clemson.
  10. To me, this article represents his journalistic persona to a "T"...never happy, always complaining about what isn't and what should be, while continuing to place blame of the past on the present even when they're not related....good for the fan, "Rex", for standing his ground and essentially saying many of the things most of us are thinking: nothing is guaranteed, but like the direction we're heading.
  11. For the most part I understand this and generally agree with it because every year a team "finds" a good to great QB that was not projected to be a team's solution to the QB mystery. However, I also have come to firmly believe coaching has a great deal to do with those QBs that make the transition successfully vs. constantly searching for a an "answer" to the QB problem, is like dropping a dollar in hopes of winning the lottery. So, to that end - while Peterman may just be a No. 2 for life, it's possible with good coaching he fits the style of Offense for the Bills need at this time in their history.
  12. Mr. Overdorf, thank you for your years of service, pack up your desk and there's the door. Enjoy retirement...or working for the Browns. Whatever, just leave...
  13. Can't / won't argue with any of those points, but obviously they haven't had the chance to do much of that yet...Sammy is not their guy...seems pretty obvious they didn't value Gilmore the way other teams did / would...and I don't think some of the other current players fit within their player profile / DNA so it will be a couple years before we really know what McD and Beane are truly about....but IMHO, all their actions indicate they're planning on how to really build this year to make ready for next year. That's why they've sold the "long-term" plan in the way they have...
  14. Agreed on both counts. Reporters and the like want to ask the questions to get commitments from them about where their position is regarding the QB, and we understand the reason for that, but McD and Beane simply aren't in the position to do that...I think they hope they can win some games and make it interesting, but not committing to TT and Sammy, along with some other contracts having a reasonable out after next year, puts them in "wait and see" approach...which as fans we don't like because it sounds like another lost season (and probably is when you consider all things) but it is the prudent and wise thing to do...it sucks, but we can't beholden the current regime, especially since it's been a near total reboot, to the prior 17 years of misery and failure.
  15. I agree wholeheartedly....I think this year was all about setting up for next year. I think this was essentially, "let's change the culture in the building, begin to set new standards, put a new mindset in the players that will be here in the years to come, and be prepared to move boldly next year to get the players we believe are the future (both Drafted and FAs)". I don't think it is coincidental that next year, with some roster cuts, there could be a pretty large amount of FA money as well.
  16. This shouldn't incite any riots....nothing to see here.
  17. This was one of those times where Bean couldn't have done himself any good at all - but he very well could have nearly sunk the ship with his self-inflicted damage. In this case, I'm of the opinion he held steady and strong and did well enough to invoke some confidence in his capabilities. Essentially, he came out about as well as he could have....anyone who thinks differently is entitled to their own opinion, but to me that only means their opinion was formed prior to his introduction press conference.
  18. My point was that philosophically you pay those positions, the others you find ways of adjusting. Again, look at the recent Super Bowl winners / losers and those that continuously contend. Megatron was one of the best WRs of our generation, how many titles came with him and Stafford? How many playoffs? When you examine Super Bowl rosters, you typically have a very good quarterback, decent to great line play on both sides of the ball, and usually another excellent grouping of players, i.e. Linebackers, CBs, etc. And, the model that remains sustainable, is where when you find your Franchise QB, you pay him like it, and then you work hard to keep the best players in the trenches, while complimenting all other positions between Drafting and FAs that fit within your scheme. I'm all for keeping Watkins, but not to the point where that money in the next year to three will cost the ability to keep other more important players relative to position.
  19. Remember Josh Norman?? Obviously, they do believe in re-signing their own players, but not pricing themselves out of the market just because they like their own player. Yes, the Defense suffered, but if you cash strap your entire team to one player, except for the QB, your whole team suffers. Sometimes, you have to let good players go when the market out paces the good of the team. So, I hope Watkins has a blockbuster year and the Bills decide to keep him...but, I also see teams like the Pats and Seattle who are winning pretty well with late round and UDFA guys...like Edelman, Hogan, Baldwin, etc....WRs and RBs are not of the supreme importance they once were. Offensive / Defensive line with QB are the ones who make the greatest difference when you can implement a scheme that uses the players you have.
  20. I cannot recall who produced the stat - and I know @bandit said it here as well - but Preston Brown actually played quite a bit of the OLB and did a truly inspiring job in his Rookie year. I think that's probably where McD sees him and it makes sense since no OLB names via FA given their "need" at it...but Rex screwed this whole thing so it's hard to decipher at this point.
  21. To me, the moment the Bills traded down to get another 1st next year, it signaled the intent is to Draft a QB next year in what is currently considered to be a good QB class. Whether they need to trade up (hoping they have to trade waaaaay up) or simply stay put remains to be seen, but at least they have the currency to do it...
  22. Nice summation and true. Well said.
  23. Along these lines Blokes, I don't know if you play Fantasy Football, but in one of my Fantasy Football leagues, each year a guy Drafts TWO Kickers and says, "I need a Kicker for my bench"....the first year we all heard that, we nearly fell on the floor. He's a nice guy but simply cannot make this stuff up....
  24. I like the Mason Rudolph pick in this early going. Sorry, but I don't want a high 1st round pick on a UCLA warm weather QB that just had shoulder surgery. Darnold is probably the cream of the crop in the early going, however, call me superstitious or just plain crazy, but Carson Palmer is the last USC QB that seemed to fair well in a cold weather city. Also, I like that Mason has the height and the combination of good but not great accuracy with arm capability of those left. Having said that, I like the Josh Allen pick as well based on Pro Style Offense and his size, and lastly, not on the list is University of Washington QB, was PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished 6th in Heisman voting this year, 43 TD passes this year, sophomore this last year and just 6'2" so far, but looked really promising. Looked pretty bad against Alabama, but except for Clemson, who didn't?? So, I'd keep an eye on him next year and see how it goes....
