  1. That’s the concern. They basically have to nail every pick for 2 years to be competitive— seems a long shot.
  2. If at the end of the year we finish a game behind the jags, and the run defense continues to trend as it has for both teams... will you still be super amped up for free agency 2018?
  3. Aaaand the saints came back. Lattimore getting hurt today really hurt their defense. Also struggled to get pressure. Hard to call a team winning 8 in a row a pretender though. I dont think its it’s a GREAT team but it’s a very very good one.
  4. Now should we be worried that so many talents don’t seem to be able to fit?
  5. Why do you find that to clearly be the truth? I think most understand sooner is better, but at this point what do you want them to do? Tearing them down or telling them they aren’t doing it right just makes the next less likely to want to come forward. It’s a tricky spot all around, but hopefully this is a little bit of a tipping point and while we likely hear about it more hopefully it happens less
  6. The flip side- imagine you are a player with some success in the league. You throw a decent deep ball on the perimeter, have good wheels on you... but know you struggle with the middle of the field. Is it your fault when the coach/gm bring in all possession receivers and quick reads to the middle? This trouble was incredibly predictable once we paired the two guys. Many saw it coming in the spring. We have a limited qb and played to his weaknesses instead of strengths Well, that’s about trying to force packages and mismatches elsewhere. It can’t be a core staple but if it gets tolbert on a corner and they keep in a thumper lb who gets stuck on clay, that’s a huge win. much like md. It can’t be regular but once in awhile is fine.
  7. 3 years if they are lucky is crazy talk. If you need 3+ years to get the roster built to your scheme you need a new scheme. The only thing that’s allowed to take 3 years is getting the right qb, and if you don’t have one you definitely have to try sooner than 3 years
  8. Yup... could be Sean Payton-esque or end up josh mcdaniels. Wide range of possibilities. I’m not super confident but we are here and anything is possible so I’m rolling with it
  9. So he’s saying they need to fit it up? He can be a good coach and they good players and simply be a bad match in personality or philosophy at this point we have our coaches and are getting a new roster for them. We will see if it works. All we can do is wait.
  10. It’s a complete wildcard this week- by end of season I expect him to level off into a more predictable quality (likely below average but not disaster). not knowing how the offense will run means we could have a leg up, or make extra mistakes. Likewise he probably makes some throws he shouldn’t and those could go for 7 for either team. Predictions are a bit of throwing darts while blindfolded this week.
  11. Given his constant refusal to name taylor the starter in the offseason, I’m a little surprised to go back on such a concrete statement so quickly.
  12. Truth is, we don’t know all that much behind the scenes. I could likewise write up the script for a story contradicting that... but... we are just flinging stuff at the wall. I do not believe rex was Whaley’s top guy. I do not know how far down the list he was.
  13. I didn’t think we’d see it this early. Especially with a winning record- but I’m pretty sure that many here foresaw the issue when we started to hear about the scheme. And then double down on that feeling when we swapped sammy for Matthews. TT is limited and we played into his limitations instead of strengths.
  14. If he truly thought Rex was great - I agree if he thought “rex is getting hired and I can either make the best of it or be unemployed” then I less strongly agree
  15. Hes yet yet another example of a guy that fans call a bum for not succeeding while the organization set him up to fail. We have a ton of those in the last decade. Odds are some were bums, but odds likewise are that some would have been very good if dropped elsewhere And it’s fair to say a failure to get what you need is a failure in the role - I won’t dispute that part. But if in a functional environment he likely would need a bit less of the “managing the owners” skill set and maybe we’d see more out of his “managing a football organization” skill set
  16. Hes not a great passer passer but he’s not a mess. Invest in outside receivers and downfield threats instead of possession receivers and tight ends. A solid running game. Picture Pittsburgh maybe. The biggest catch 22 is you need him on a cheap contract to be successful and as soon as he’s successful you lose the cheap contract.
  17. He needs an OC that won’t make him have to be a traditional qb. In the right scheme I’d count him as serviceable
  18. We’ve had a lot of posters that think the only mistakes are the bad throws you make— but a good opportunity missed is also huge. It just goes by quietly unnoticed while the interception makes the highlight reels.
  19. I’ll stick with the fact much like fitz he’s a low tier vet starter. You have to look for an upgrade with him but likewise it’s hard to solidly upgrade the position from him.
  20. Its pretty much the worst thing possible. Like the type I hadn’t even considered. So I now expect it.
  21. Yup- and most are not hugely rich. League minimum for 2-3 years is great pay but it’s nice nest egg pay, not set for life pay.
  22. Imagine how bad they would’ve quit if we kept sammy, or dareus! Lucky we have lesser but fully bought in talents.
  23. It’s tangible evidence they are on the field more than the offense. They could be struggling for any number of reasons. That’s likely part of the reason but doubtfully most of it
  24. I don’t think that describes as many as you think it does on the financial side. Even if just a job, most very much stress over keeping that job.
  25. I don’t do a board, but roughly speaking I recall being pretty close to this, for better and worse.
