  1. All I can say is that I hope that 5 years from now people aren't conflating name brand Bills offensive line second round busts and calling him O'Cyrus Kouandjio. Or worse yet, eventually confusing him with Cyril Richardson........another long over-hyped-as-an-early-pick and oversized OL draft prospect that the Bills claimed to steal in the 5th round of 2014 draft. O'Cyril Torrichardson? https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2058980-how-cyril-richardson-fits-with-the-buffalo-bills
  2. Every year there are some super hot draft takes.........sometimes they just bang the table for the low producing WR from Illinois who had a 48" vertical at his pro day. But sometimes the author creates an entire thread about it. Then you have a classic.
  3. I liked Williams day 3 but I think a lot of us would have preferred something like gambling on the potential of Drew Sanders in round 2 and then going with a Chandler Zavala in round 3 if they were determined to go G/LB or LB/G. Which is what it seems they were doing in hindsight. They really couldn't have expected the LB's that could run to last to day 3, could they have? Interior OL was generally expected to be deeper on day 3. Torrence really has to be a very good guard for that sequence to make sense. O'Cyrus has that "I saw him mocked in round 1" name recognition that Cyrus Kouandjio and Cody Ford had before him as second round offensive lineman that the Bills have drafted in Whaley/Beane eras. Same kinda' questions regarding the agility from the knees down. A second round guard really needs to turn into star quality blocker pretty quickly.
  4. I don't think the opposition defensive gameplan would be any different with Hopkins. They would probably still have the double on Diggs and put CB1 on Hopkins. He's just a little more equipped to still catch those contested passes than the ham-handed Davis as WR2. What it would open up is opportunities for either Davis as boundary WR2(WR3 overall) with Diggs in slot.........or Kincaid/Harty in the slot(with Davis on bench). Knox probably gets less attention than ever either way. Hopefully Kincaid stays healthy and starts earning playing time and then this draft pick helps Knox take his game to another level. His issue, IMO, is when he internalizes. That's where the drops come from. He's never had any outside competition. Competition shifts the focus from within and frees up players minds from self-destructive internalizing. It's a big reason why coaches want competition.
  5. It was always a concern having a rookie OC. No first time play caller had lead an offense to a SB win since Mike Holmgren took over as Niners OC when Bill Walsh retired after 1988 season. And that team was the defending champion. When you gotta' go back 40 years or so for a comparable situation as Dorsey had taking over a SB favorite who had no SB experience as a team.......... that's an eternity in the NFL. Having at least some experience in the postseason is clearly huge. This year is huge for Dorsey but AT LEAST they've made some effort to improve the personnel. Maybe not enough or the right players.......but McGovern, Harty, Harris and even Sherfield were upgrades over last years efforts in UFA. And Kincaid and Torrence is more than just drafting a backup RB. Ultimately though........it's not a stacked group of playmakers OR a stacked OL............so it's going to be mostly about whether Allen returns to top form. Gotta' get back to more like 2020 where Allen is not having to run for lack of playmakers and jailbreak blocking.
  6. It's hard for me to get too down on Dorsey after they just scored 28 ppg with their worst personnel since 2019 and a banged up Josh Allen. Brian Douche-ball was fired as an OC 4 times and half way thru 2018 he was leading the worst offense the NFL had seen since the merger. He got better and even had a great season in 2020.......so if a guy who lost that many times can then Dorsey certainly can. At the same time, hopefully he doesn't get over-confident in his play calling if he does........ like his predecessor did in 2021 with all those low scoring games that sank their home field dreams. Expect the Giants to experience that market correction offensively as BD's wicky-wacky style costs the Giants some shoulda-won games this season.
  7. Yep, already scrapping the James Cook passing game weapon plan. Since Whaley left after the 2017 draft have McDermott or McBean found any "scheme" fits that worked exceptionally well in the draft? Their success has been finding guys who work in any scheme. That is guys like Allen and Rousseau. Guys like Edmunds and Oliver were supposed to be players whose skills were accentuated in the McDefense and that hasn't materialized. Both have fallen well short of expecations and rounds 2 and on haven't isolated anyone who was a great scheme fit the way the 2017 draft did Milano.
  8. I know that he won't be playing RT. Just a typo. He could be a LG though. Iupati and Incognito were LG's for Roman and they could handle the short distance pulling from left to right. Now get out to do work on a screen? Forget about it.
  9. I'm never a fan of drafting fat, slow-footed lineman in early rounds. But the key point is what you mentioned..........what the hell are they doing scheme wise? They just paid $7M aav to McGovern play G.....a guy who is all about athleticism and no anchor.........which was at consistent with Morse and Bates and their never ending attempts to become an outside zone running team. With Torrence at RG I don't think outside zone is something they can make their identity.........so maybe we get back to more of the inside zone and gap/pin-pull styles that they used with the lumbering Incognito and no-anchor Wood. Mike Iupati.......a player Torrence has been compared to........fared well under Roman in SF as well.
  10. Yeah felt like to me the Bills would have taken Simpson and then Avila.......of the players still available but selected later........in the event the rest of it fell that way. I see Beane tryna' recoup a 4th and moving back into the 3rd.......which would have still put them in position to add Simpson(or Mingo, amongst others) in that circumstance.
  11. The flip side to all of the praise is that Jalen Carter fell because he's the biggest personality-risk prospect in round 1. And Nolan Smith was a big underachiever for Georgia. Watching him over the years my thought was largely "how was this guy the top HS player in the nation?". As I predicted last draft........Jordan Davis wasn't the great run defender..........Eagles run D struggled with him in there. If it all comes together for these guys they could be impressive............but they also could become the Georgiadelphia Bustdogs.
  12. As noted in another thread.......a "Cooler" is a loser who spreads bad luck by his presence.
  13. A "Cooler" is a loser who spreads their bad luck onto lucky gamblers. See the film "The Cooler". It has a highly negative connotation.
  14. My gut feeling is Beane tries hard to trade out of round 2 to gather more picks. Which given his track record in round 2.....
  15. Not as concerned about his age than at some other positions. Not uncommon to see TE's start NFL career a little later and even have HOF careers. Gates was 23......Kelce 24. An important part of being a TE is learning how to keep yourself healthy. A little maturity helps in that regard, IMO. I think we see some very young/dumb one's enter the league and get beat up and wash out fast. It's a swing for the fences.........he needs to become an 80-100 catch guy with some longevity for the pick to look really good. Great tools to do that. Also.......this pick REALLY addresses the issue of too many ball-droppers and a lack of size that seems to impact the team in poor Buffalo weather. Hard to utlize those small catch radius 5'9" targets when it's windy, rainy/snowy and/or cold.

  17. Yeah it would be a fun experiment if they can get him cheap and Arizona eats a bunch of salary in 2023 so the Bills can rent him for a season and see how it goes. But there are enough red flags between scheme and QB fit, age, injury and suspension history that I am fine missing him if the price ain't right. Even if he goes to a competitor. He's not a slam dunk fit.

    RIP Jerry

No that guy was the mayor of Cincinnati I think.

    RIP Jerry

Wasn't he married to Connie Chung?
  20. I am a big draft fan but rounds 2-7 and UDFA and when they will sign their slotted contracts aren't really compelling story lines for May-July. The more interesting story will be all the free agents that sign after the "comp pick" date..........but while there are some good players they aren't big names.
  21. Not if he has any common sense. You can't be, on one hand, hoping to trade back because you have a lot of needs to fill on your roster(as is rumored)...........but then be like "whoa, hold up........a RB is available in round 1? Well that changes everything." Now you have LESS picks to address needs. Because RB isn't one of those needs.
  22. What is the NFL story for the next 3 months if DHop gets traded tonight? The only story left then is WHEN Lamar signs with Baltimore. No other likely big name trade candidates........no QB's pondering retirement. The NFL kinda' needs DHop to not get traded until June at least.
  23. The knock is that he has no pass rush repertoire. Combination of opponent scouting and some diminshed skill from injury has turned him into a base end with bad habits.
  24. Yeah I really like McDonald and have thought he might end up BPA at a premium position that is left at 27 at times recently. But I have a hard time not slotting Addison above him if he is there due to age. If McDonald were 21 with those traits it's a different looking projection. He is one of the more interesting stories, IMO.
  25. That mock feels right. Agree about the omissions........those guys feel like second rounders to me. The teams that picked RB's feel like RB-pickers, IMO as well. Btw Kiper just released his last this am.........and sometimes he gets some good inside tips on that version.........Will McDonald eventually went to the Bills in that version.
