Potential veteran QBs available next year
xsoldier54 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. I enjoyed the draft and will enjoy training camp, the pre-season and the regular season, savoring every moment, both good and bad. Next year is for next year. -
This guy was the consensus best receiver in the draft and filled a huge need. They did not "bet the farm" as some have claimed. They gave fair value in a trade to get the player that they wanted and desperately needed. That's how you change three straight 6-10 seasons, not by sitting back and doing nothing. I am not a kook aid drinker by any means and am as critical as the next guy if I think they have done something stupid. In this case, I cannot agree that they have. I think it was a smart move that will pay dividends. Just my opinion, but that's what I think.

This. I love our WR corps. Stronger than we have been in years. Can't wait to see them in action.

Unlike Kiper's A- grade, Texan's Johnson not happy…

Not going to happen. He is the best QB I have ever seen at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. -
Sammy gets double-teamed. Now, what?
xsoldier54 replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As soon as Williams and Woods repeatedly burn them, the double coverage will cease. Can't wait to see this WR corps in action. -
FWIW Bill Polian wasn't too keen on part of our draft.
xsoldier54 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, but the Bills were AFL champions long before Bill Polian ever came on board. They had a long and storied history and already had "amounted to something". He did a good job, no doubt, but he did not make the Buffalo Bills by any stretch of the imagination. -
Sorry, but I think Whaley has plenty of brains. They already have four QB's on the roster. Whaley likes the guys he's got and didn't see anybody out there that he thought was better able to compete. He did a great job in the draft and before the draft. They have upgraded at WR, OL, LB, special teams and DB. The roster is more solid and deep than it has been in years. I trust his judgement and the proof will be in the pudding.

Kiper gives Bills low marks in draft

Mel Kiper is a maroon. -
Bills Trade 5th Round Pick (#149) to Tampa Bay
xsoldier54 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like most of the moves, but this one puzzles me. There weren't two players left in the fifth that the Bills wanted so they picked up an extra seventh rounder? If there weren't two guys that you want in round five there sure as hell won't be in RD 7. -
WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers
xsoldier54 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Relax man, where was he going to play? With Watkins at #1, Williams at #2 and Woods at #3, Stevie would have had to fight for playing time. I think we are stronger with those three than we have been in years. I wish Stevie well. I liked him, but he and the Bills needed to move on. Good luck to Stevie In SF and Go Bills! -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
xsoldier54 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They got a first rounder back, so 1+1=2-1=1. They didn't give up this year's first rounder, they traded it for Cleveland's. They gave up next year's. -
Stevie Johnson Trade Value
xsoldier54 replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stevie is no longer the #2 WR on this roster. Watkins is #1, Williams is #2 and Woods is #3. Where does that leave Stevie? My guess is that it leaves him packing his bags. -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
xsoldier54 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stevie is as good as gone. I love this pick. With Watkins, Williams and Woods, teams will really have to game plan and if they stop one, the others will get you. My guess is they trade Stevie for a sixth rounder this year. -
OT/TE or TE/OT in first two rounds??
xsoldier54 replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it totally depends on what happens at 1-8. That will determine both rounds for the Bills. They will select BPA in the first round and whatever postion they don't address in Rd 1,they will go after in RD 2. That could mean WR in 1st or T or TE or Safety. Whichever it is will lay the groundwork for the rest of the draft. -
11 Fanspeak drafts 5 rounds, no worries
xsoldier54 replied to ....lybob's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we have enough cap money for the extra picks. Then don't do them. They are just for fun and it helps familiarize you with the players because you have to do a bit of research before making your picks. Nobody claimed that they were accurate. -

I've been doing the fanspeak draft for weeks, just for fun with decent results. Thought I would try the first-pick one. Did it twice complete with trades and here is what I got. Round 1 Pick 30 (S.F.): Dee Ford, DE, Auburn (B) Round 2 Pick 9: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington (B+) Round 2 Pick 24 (S.F.): Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee (A-) Round 2 Pick 29 (S.F.): Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State (A-) Round 3 Pick 9: Christian Kirksey, OLB, Iowa (B) Round 4 Pick 26 (N.O.): Ahmad Dixon, SS, Baylor (A-) Round 5 Pick 9: Ed Stinson, DE, Alabama © Round 5 Pick 27 (N.O.): Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers (A) Round 5 Pick 29 (N.O.): Bennett Jackson, CB, Notre Dame (B+) Round 7 Pick 9: Jeremiah George, ILB, Iowa State ( Second time: Round 1 Pick 18 (NYJ): Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh (A) Round 2 Pick 10 (TENN): Dee Ford, DE, Auburn (A-) Round 2 Pick 17 (NYJ): Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech (A) Round 3 Pick 9: Cyril Richardson, OG, Baylor (A-) Round 4 Pick 22 (PHI): Ahmad Dixon, SS, Baylor (B+) Round 5 Pick 9: Charles Leno, OT, Boise State (B) Round 5 Pick 22 (PHI): Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers (A) Round 7 Pick 9: Avery Patterson, FS, Oregon (D) -
...And just like that highest paid no more
xsoldier54 replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
New Orleans overpaid for Byrd. Period. The Bills have other pressing needs and I am very happy that they chose not to overpay for Byrd. He is gone and I have moved on. I suspect we will see this kind of rhetoric for years to come by disgruntled Bills fans who don't care about winning, but just want their favorite players to be overpaid. They went 6-10 multiple times with Byrd. The can do just as well or hopefully better without him. -
7 Elite Prospects in the Draft
xsoldier54 replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the choice is between Ebron and Lewan, I don't think the Bills will pick Lewan at 9. If you are going to take the third best tackle, you don't do it at 9. Take one of the other good tackles in the second or third round and grab Ebron in the first. -
It's Dooley and Schultz doing the talking.
-
I ran the simulation several times and he always seems to be there in the third or fourth round.

Who believes in Manuel?
xsoldier54 replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I definitely see what the Bills saw in him. Enough potential to draft in round one. He showed flashes of how good he can be, but also got hurt a lot and made some rookie mistakes. This year it's do or die time. Either a breakout season or it's back to square one at QB. -
I agree. If all of those guys are gone, try and trade down for more picks. I don't really see a glaring need except maybe at RT and 9 is too high for a RT. We can get a good one later and maybe pick up an extra pick.
