  1. i dont think the point of the bend-but-dont-break philosophy is to wait for the opponent to make mistakes. you cant just say, (for example): on average, a 12 play drive will yield X number of penalties, Y number of dropped passes, and Z number of missed field goals. The point of the bend-dont-break is to capitalize on those mistakes. Where capitalize does not just mean 'eventually get the ball back.' sacks. forced fumbles. QB hits. Opponents geting frustrated and commiting personal fouls. Tricking QBs. Edmunds gave you none of that. Dont tell me it wasnt his job and i dont know his assignment, etc. I think the only time on Defense where your assignment does not involve making a play is either (1) eating a double team, or (2) setting the edge. Otherwise, your assignment should be to do your role, so you can be in position to make a play if it presents. Never happened with Edmunds. He was like the employee whose priority was to not get fired. No thought of advancement.
  2. usually, players dont do this to other players. so, maybe kelce spoke to Chris Jones. Maybe jones wants to come back but he needs some cover. "I woulda stayed gone. But i cant leave my 'brothers' hangin'. so maybe Jones is cool with it. beforehand.
  3. if i'm barkley, i wanna get as many accrued seasons as i can, first. coaches dont have a pension. He can coach into his 60s if that's what he wants to do. No rush. Plus, if he wants to coach, he might have to start in the HS or College ranks. I mean, the Bills do seem to love him in the room, but we dont know if he has much to offer as a coach.
  4. water not wet man bites dog gimme somethin to work with, here
  5. if he is extended but hasnt proven much, I'd suspect he gambled on himself preseason, saw he was losing that bet, and approached the team to see what he could get. so, since we do (apparently, according to well reasoned opinions about him in our system) have use for him, i'd be happy. because it would mean it was not a top-dollar deal, for somebody we were gonna keep in 2024 almost no matter what.
  6. when was the last time we had a non-QB rookie be named / voted a Captain? because that's when you know Captain is an earned honor on that team. And also that you have drafted quite well. Your team is full of mature men who give credit where its due. otherwise, if its just a popularity contest or coach-driven, or a gift to the media who have nothing else to cover for 2 weeks of dead time, then fans like us / me will wonder "what's really goin on? and why should i care?"
  7. Randy Moss is high. no matter which of the 2 Randy Mosses it is. They musta hung out together.
  8. do you have phone service with spectrum? if not, shut off your wifi. So you phone will use something not-Spectrum for internet. And/or, if this works, maybe try using your phone as a Mobile Hotspot. Then set your laptop or tv to use the internet off your phone's HotSpot. (gotta make sure you have plenty of data on your phone plan. if not, its probably worth paying for the temporary upgrade.)
  9. disagree if you are someone who puts things on the record, as part of your job, i expect you will put things on the record. that's why you are talking to me. to help you do your job by collecting things to put onto the Record so here, "off the record" is the same as "dont quote me on that" and/or "if you attribute this to me i will deny it and be angry as hell." for example, colleagues tell each other "Beane told me off the record that kyle allen sucks" is fine. As long as (from Beane's perspective) you made clear to your colleague that its off the record, and you trust that colleague to also keep it off the record. Which means "out of my [Beane's] mouth." It does not mean "take it to your grave" when speaking to someone whose job and industry is to put things on, or off, an actual Record
  10. mark davis might not want to spend, and/or might not actually have, the actual cash to sign Nick Bosa. (funding the guarantees) To the largest contract for a defensive end ever. even if "ever" is only for one season. Mark Davis' cash is still gone forever.
  11. have to admit, i think 'wilt' describes it perfectly. In the national view of the NFL, the Bills just petered out. The difference is, other fan bases dont care why. They got their popcorn ready for the AFCCG. It took them one day to move on. the national narrative this year has been "wilt or not wilt.' last year it was "super bowl or not super bowl"
  12. the other problem with the Bengals is the actual cash. To fund large signing bonuses. Mike brown is saving every penny, and looking for new lines of credit, for the moment when he can no longer earn interest on it by delaying paying Burrow. Mike brown has no cash and hates to pay it. Mark davis has no cash but loves to pay it. mike brown lives like its paycheck to paycheck.
  13. Jaguars Shad khan needs sizzle for his London fanbase. Jaguars have good players. But have they ever had a star in his prime? ever? Doug peterson, say what you will, does seem to know how to make a superbowl team. They could easily and quite rationally think they are exactly one piece away. They could easily think they are in a window AND with young players.
  14. totally agree. And i am super optimistic about this part. but that's just managing expectations. Which is healthy. Am i optimistic we will win the super bowl this year? No. Am i pessimistic that we wont? No.
  15. i dont agree that this means improvements were made over last year's team. example: last season Tre White was an 85 at the start, but currently he is only a 79. so if he gets beat out by an 81, that might not be 'improvement' over last year
  16. which means you are also not optimistic. its like saying "in a normal year, i could tell you right now. But this year . . . ." its like saying "i might become optimistic at some point"
  17. i guess the point is that they did not "trade" for WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette it seems like they did a favor to the WR by making sure he ended up where he wanted to go. they traded a dollar bill for four quarters.
  18. feels like you just described the Aud
  19. i prefer to stay out of jail. but that said, we could do worse. And currently probably are.
  20. so, since i cant find a backup QB to win 2 or 3 games . . . i should sign and pay, and trade for, a star RB. To help my backup QB win 2 or 3 games, if needed. Meantime, the other 14 games, its overkill. I agree with the sentiment that we shouldnt take the ball out of Josh's hands. its like signing a basketball guard to play with michael jordan. We pass you the ball so you can pass it back to Jordan. When you start shooting too much and hogging possessions, we trade you. We didnt bring you here to take the ball out of Jordan's hands
  21. disagree whatever team signs Damar knows its gonna have to release him eventually. That's a worse PR hit than any possible boost its like that one gay guy who entered the draft years ago. Teams didnt want to pick him because he was not a good football player. So they knew they didnt want the bad PR when they released him. (finally googled it. Michael Sam. 7th rounder by the Rams in 2014) If Damar can play, it would be safer to trade for him after he has shown you wont have to cut him. He hasnt shown he will ever be that. ergo, i suspect Damar will make it through to our practice squad.
  22. i noticed one thing that might make the credibility of the survey results suspect The article did not say that each of these "Certified Agents" had at least one client on a roster or looking for work during the period. was it leigh steinberg? Master P? Mike Lombardi? --- for example, on running backs being underpaid, somebody actually said: • “Stop calling themselves running backs. ‘All-around player’ or ‘playmaker’ or some other position label that applies to several different current positions.” because the jedi mind trick will work on NFL GMs?
