Thinking ahead: Maybe not a good idea to draft QB this year
section122 replied to K-No's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Matt barkley is a very realistic option for #1 if he chooses to come out next year. Landry jones as well could end up being a top 10 pick. This doesn't include any come from nowhere players or proverbial 1 year wonders. It really isn't unrealistic that luck will not be the first qb taken, however planning for that and passing on someone they think is a franchise qb this year is more than a little bit assinine. -
Who is Blaine Gabbert anyway?
section122 replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Question 1 If gabbert is so great why is he not in the discussion for the #1 overall pick yet 2 picks later he will be a good pick? Question 2 if newton is considered a 1 year wonder bc of his amazing year last year what do you call gabbert? a no year wonder? Newton won a championship and heisman as THE best player in college football, gabbert went for 16 and 9! Please I really want an answer to question 1 and would love to hear the answers to number 2! -
Nix and Modrak Address Media
section122 replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My guess is newton dareus miller. The d and c had an article where nix said he has 3 players they like and 1 will def be there (miller imo) but I would love and not be suprised if dareus is higher on their board. -
buffal bills on espn are about to be on

I actually do have hope for maybin. As stated he would be entering this draft if he had stayed in school. Has he done anything to this point in his career? No. However being 22 I'm not ready to give up on him yet. The positives are 2 years of nfl coaching and weight training as well as a supposed excellent work ethic. So hope.. Yes. Suprised if he doesn't materialize? No. -
I voted e however c intrigued me as it seemed he improved steadily before getting hurt (I assume) senior year. I know you feel this thread is proving some point but I hope its only that 3 stats do not a qb make. There is no context to these stats not what type of offense, skill of competition, skill of teammates, nothing to aid these stats. Hopefully (and it pains me that I know I'm wrong) ppl are basing their decisions of off these things as well as having watched the players play not just 3 stats!

To play in the nfl players must apply for the draft in order to become eligible. If they miss the regular draft deadline they can apply for the supplemental draft this ensures the ability for all teams to get players instead of regionalization (usfl) or straight free agency (ufl). Which as the above poster stated helps parity. This rule imo won't go anywhere as it is established in all major sports leagues and a decision against it would set a precedent that would have ramifications in these sports. I don't think any judge wants to sign and deliver that decision.

Blaine Gabbert or Christian Ponder?
section122 replied to DukeyBomb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I voted for ponder bc I don't feel gabbert will pan out. However I wouldn't want to pick him until round 3 if he's still there. I feel if we are going to not select a qb in rnd 1 (want newton) then round 3 would be the earliest I would be comfortable with as that qb woould have to sit and learn for an extended amount of time and there are several qbs that could be there (I think ponder will be as well (a la mcoy last year) -
Drayton Florence has a lockout plan...
section122 replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's not what I said. I was talking about him specifically and feel he is our most dependable member of our secondary who makes his fair share of plays. Believe me I'm well aware of our pass d getting a pass (pun intended) due to our terrible run d. -

Who over-rates this guy. Oh wait maybe me bc I thought he was our best cb last year... honestly who on our team in the secondary made more plays? -
A little late to the party but yes. Wanted newton then want him now luck wouldn't have been available at our pick anyways.

What is the obsession with taking a QB in the draft?
section122 replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who exactly was projecting Rivers to be a 3rd Round Pick? Because whoever it was I hope they are no longer covering the NFL Draft...I don't realthough member anything like that whatsoever... [/quote Although I appreciate your use/overuse of emoticons at the end of the season yes he was projected as a 3rd rnd pick. I remember it specifically bc I thought he would be a stud and a steal and hoped by the time the draft rolled around he would be there for us @ our 1st pick. This was before the combine and rest of the pre draft process and was simply meant to illustrate that players move up and down during said process. Also that cam moving from mid first to top of first is not that big of a deal. -

section122 replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not one "expert" questions his mechanics and they are actually a strength. Secondly is it really suprising that a player moved where he was projected either up or down? Phillip rivers was projected to be a 3rd round pick at the end of the season and went 4th overall. There are so many holes its going to take this year and next to fix it. So if the qb can sit for a year to learn then be ready to play when the team is competitive, isn't that a good idea? -
Love watching this guy fight and hope he wins on Saturday. rua has always been a favorite prob just cause I like rooting for a guy with the name shogun but not on Saturday! For ppl on the fence about mma maybe having a local guy in what should be a great title fight will help show you how great mma could be!

James Toney challenges Marcellus Wiley

A boxing match can be just as boring if they dance and clutch the whole time. I love both and would recomend checking out anderson silvas last fight against vitor belfort. One of the sickest ko's I've ever seen! The knockouts in mma are imo more impressive and more fun to watch... I'm sure a youtube search would bring up some great ones! -
So your just grammar policing on an extreme level... sweet Read my original post I'm not personally offended by any of this but I understood the op and poll to read which of these do you feel is the worse action. Btw sweet 80s reference..........

So people can't have an opinion on something that didn't directly affect them? Let me ask was the holocaust offensive? Having an opinion is everyones right and you post on an opinion forum and "see your opinion does matter"
-
I don't think that was at all was meant by his post. More like having those things would bias your opinion. I don't think anyone thinks either of them were good the poll is about which was in your opinion worse.

Culturally there are pockets where dog fighting is completely acceptable. I for one don't agree with it. However I look at it in this perspective... if your born to catholic parents you will most likely be catholic. Born to jewish parents most likely jewish. Born into a community where dog fighting is seen as acceptable you too would find it acceptable. Again I disagree with it but I was raised that way. Nowhere in the world is sexual assault acceptable. Yes I know he was never charged but that to me means very little in terms of whether or not it happened.

I think I can help... without brady they had another qb deemed to be a franchise signal caller play in his place. The good teams can plug in rookies and the mistakes they make are covered by the good players around them. Or best case they can sit and learn behind quality veterans and not have an entire fan base expect the world from them first snap. Thank you so much for this post. There are only a few examples of stud qbs not taken in the first round however there are so many players at every other position that excel taken in later rounds. We have a qb and an above average one at that however he's not a franchise build your team around type. Doesn't it make sense to take one let him learn while building the rest of the team up. We have 8 picks in this draft along with the deepest fa pool (depending on cba outcome) ever as all the players who were restricted even after their 4 years will be fa.

Each player is his own entity. Cam newton whether he is good or not has nothing to do with aaron maybin. Maybin was undersized for his position and a one trick pony (speed rush). Cam newton has excellent size with no concern over his accuracy, arm strength, or throwing motion. There was a great write up on here a couple of days ago by a dolphins writer all about cam newton. In it they interviewed several teammates who all raved about his leadership. Also mentioned was how he was instrumental in getting his receivers together during the offseason to prqactice. Also how he was first in and last out and he knew where every player was supposed to be and when. These are all intagibles your looking for in a qb. So I'm left looking at a qb who appears to have great leadership skills and an excellent commitment to getting better and making his team better. Add to that his physical skills that you can see on tape and you've got pretty much everything your looking for in a qb. That's why I want cam newton!

Mayock's pre-combine review discusses:
section122 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Also interesting was him commenting on how deep the draft was for dl and that there would be first round graded talent available early in the second. So it would be possible to get cam then a first round quality dlineman. That would be an ideal scenario! -
Wow that article was so long I forgot it was attached to the forum! That being said I read the entire thing and came away feeling even stronger that I want cam newton on this team. Yes there are holes on this team but I feel this is an opportunity to upgrade the most difficult position to do so. The breakdown of his final 6 games (including alabama and the sec championship game) was especially impressive. I challenge all the cam haters to read this article to at least broaden your perspective on him.

I will be shocked if taylor is still there in rnd 2 and wouldn't mind a trade up a few slots into the end of rnd 1 using our extra 4th to ensure we get him. I picked newton taylot and sturdivant as I hope ot and te is addressed in f.a. So many holes on this team so many picks can address needs but I really could see a "luxury" first rnd pick on someone such as newton green or peterson as they may be viewed as best available.
