Phillips could be a player next year also. I'm excited about the offseason and seeing what progress our young guys make this year.
-
I don't disagree, he hopefully finds a vet that can play. Ideally Bridgewater. Or Matt Moore even. Or Landry Jones. But if Allen looks ?? at the end of the year, and a guy those in my list are available, you grab him. The "we can't grab a QB" thinking is how we pass on a guy like Russel Wilson for a WR!!
-
THIS. I hope Allen is the guy. If not, or if we don't know, I'm all for drafting a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I think there is some talent in that range next year.
-
you got it. Draft a QB in rounds 2-3 or 4 who can potentially be a starter. Not enamored by Peterman or any of the vets. (unless Saints somehow don't sign Bridgewater)
-
again, not an "Allen sucks" thread!!! I didn't put up names that will be available in the 1-2 round range. We should take DT/OL in those rounds. I want a young, good backup. Allen will get injured (all QB's do), and if he does not progress we have a backup. Really that simple. If you prefer a vet, throw out a Vet name. then what Vet? Unless you want Peterman as the backup. ! Yikes.
-
donno. apparently a lot who lack basic reading comprehension. we do? wishing we have one is not the same as having one. we also have no backup. I'd prefer a backup and Allen insurance.
-
I'm thinking we take an O-lineman in the 2nd, after taking a DL in the 1st. I think we get WR help in FA. This is not a "Allen sucks" thread. Apparently reading comprehension is lost on some..... Unless Peterman should be our backup, and we shouldn't get insurance against Allen not progressing. I look at it as a RG3/Cousins type of play, albeit over 2 drafts.

the Front Office had nothing to work with cap wise after the prior regimes terrible decisions. I expect us to be much better next year with a ton of cap space (WR, OL, secondary---we did a good job getting Hyde and Poyer!). Plus 10 picks. Edmunds will be a stud, Allen hopefully has more than 0.5 seconds to throw, and will have someone who can catch the ball on the receiving end. I think realistically we need to wait another 1-3 years to see how this FO is doing. Not great for the impatient. I've been here longer than the entire drout. But I have a feeling this FO will get it done.

yeah, time to shake up the O-line. I was listening to the Sirrius (Packers) broadcast. One play in the 1st half, the Packers rushed 2 inside LB's. Neither one was blocked. The packers announcer said, "that's an interesting blocking scheme. How do you totally miss a middle linebacker, let alone two." Time to put in Teller or someone else on the line. Sick of watching this garbage. As you said, Allen had no chance. Even our running game is terrible this year.

For those who say "we have bigger needs," or "let Allen have 2 years" I tend to agree. Therefore, who/what QB would you take in Rd. 2 or 3 that might be there. My guys in that area are: Trace McSorley from PSU. Accurate ball placement, athletic and a gamer. Almost a shorter, more accurate Josh Allen. Will Geyer, WVA. 80% completion percentage so far this year. Ryan Finley (NC State). and Clayton Thornson (Northwestern) Those of you who watch more college football than I (which isn't very hard), please feel free to chime in on your round 2-3 QB pick. Doesn't have to be a guy to "challenge" Allen, but a good backup/someone who could be a starter.

So what is the bigger need O-line or WR
RyanC883 replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
O-line. Even if you have the best WR's, they have zero time to get open. WR is a close second, because on the odd chance the O-line holds up, no one is open! -
McDermott not pleased with WRs in practice
RyanC883 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
who did they "gut" that would have made a difference besides R. Woods? K. Benjamin plays like he's 3 inches shorter than he is. D. Thompson played "bigger" than him. Well, they should have kept D. Thompson. agree with this. And they made moves like K. Benjamin that looked like winners at the time. So did J. Matthews, who even the Pats*** scooped up. Neither one has panned out. Someone should remind Benjamin it's a contract year for him. -
Should Teams Start Spying Josh Allen?
RyanC883 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
put a spy in there, leave Croom or someone else wide open. Shady could have a field-day. But if I'm them, I do it like you suggest: until it hurts you. Make the young QB and bad WR's have another game. hopefully our WR's don't drop the ball!! I'd throw to Croom or a RB at this point. -
Big Ben is interesting in that the Steelers arguably went the opposite direction of what this article suggests. They ditched high-priced guys and replaced them (Mike Wallace, kept AB, not signing Bell, etc). You have to hit on a lot of draft picks. But a QB like Ben makes a lot of the offense look great. The D on the other hand has taken a while.
-
This is an interesting idea. Ideally you would trade the younger guy (i.e. Carr), get a high draft pick, draft a QB, and then ALSO bring in a veteran such as Fitzpatrick, etc. who can play if the rookie falters and/or until ready. While you are doing that, you build out a great support staff of O-line and D. Put a system in place that can win with someone like Foles.

Week 4: Packers Game Preparation - Inactives Announced
RyanC883 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
huh. same people making different picks? is this at different times? -
Yeah I would worry now about the $5K
RyanC883 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if you are betting an amount of money that is "devastating" for you to lose, you really need to get professional help. https://www.ncpgambling.org/help-treatment/national-helpline-1-800-522-4700/ (just found by quick google search) -
Russ Bodine made a huge difference
RyanC883 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Bodine can't play next week, we need to bring in a center to challenge Groy. In fact, we should do that anyway. -
I was thinking the same thing. I knew he was athletic like the TD run demonstrated, but jumping like that. wow.

I know some people believe this, but it's not true. The Steelers have reloaded a ton of talent over the past 10 years with We had the drought because of terrible drafting by the prior regime: 2009: 11th picK: Maybin instead of Orakpo; 2010: 9th pick: CJ Spiller instead of Earl Thomas; or D. Morgan, or M. Pouncey 2011: 3rd pick Dearus. That one was okay. But JJ Watt would be better. 2012: 12th pick: Gillmore. A good pick, and a pick a 6-10 team can get. 2013: 16th pick: EJ Manual. Xavier Rhodes, Eric Reed, DeAndre Hopkins, and Travis Fredrick all 1st rounders taken later. 2014: 4th Pick: Sammy Watkins. Yeah, K. Mack would be a much better pick. or A. Donald, taken at 13; or Ryan Schazier taken at 15. 2015: No 1st round pick. Some names available around 10: Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, etc. I'll stop there, but you get the point. There is a lot of talent around where a 6-10 team can draft. You just have to make the right picks.
