Watching whatever games were on local TV and following the scroll at the bottom and the halftime and post-game shows, then verifying via the following day's paper. We would type out league game results and standings and meet up on Monday Nights to watch that night's game and shoot the shite. No waivers, 15 man dynasty/keeper league (eventually 20 players) with trades. First year, my 1st Round pick was Jim Kelly and my 15th Round pick (last) was Randall Cunningham.

It was tough for sure but was a labor of love. No internet and no fantasy football mags. My brother started as the Commish but I have been for years now. I was always the stats guy and handled all of the scoring and paper work. We were a 'basic scoring' league (TDs, FGs, & PATs) so it wasn't as bad as trying to run a PPR or fractional league but there were no 'real time' updates.

I've been participating in fantasy football since 1987 when my brother and I put together a league with some buddies (that league is still going today). But, generally, your point is correct.

My Man, Chandler81 RIP (Bobby, not me. Don’t get your hopes up)

Proof that @Chandler#81is alive... -
You may be right. My answer was in response to @Xwnyer who posted, "Would actually be great since I am moving in October n can’t put a dish up until HOA approves likely 2 months after move in." My point was that the HOA cannot stop you from putting up a DTV or Dish Network satellite on your property and you don't need their permission. They are all bark and no bite. Attempting to put up one of those big C-Band dishes is another story.

Are you moving into a single-dwelling home? If so, you don't need your HOA's approval. It's a communications device and they can't prohibit you from installing a dish (39" or less) within the confines of your property. "In 1996, the FCC adopted the Over the Air Reception Device Rule, or OTARD rule. In short, the OTARD rule prohibits homeowners' associations and condominium associations from placing restrictions on residents which impede the installation, maintenance, or use of satellite dishes, TV antennas, or wireless cable antennas." http://www.ccfj.net/FCClaw.htm

If any of you are near the Syracuse area, Jacob deGrom is scheduled to make a rehab start for the S-Mets this Thursday, provided that his bullpen session tomorrow goes off without any problems.

Generally speaking, the system is not deep...yet. Steve Cohen has done a good job of spending not only on the big club but also of putting resources into the front office and scouting. Right now, I'd say the system is more top heavy than deep. Their top prospect is C Francisco Alvarez which is good news because the catcher position at the MLB level has been a black hole for far too long. I believe he has risen to the #2 prospect in all of baseball and has a chance to be elite, IMO. I'm still miffed that they wasted $40M on James McCann rather than signing Realmuto. 3B Brett Baty is another borderline elite prospect who can rake. He's ranked around #22 overall. He and Alvarez are hopefully going to be the long term answers at 3B and C, respectively. Mark Vientos is another really good prospect as is Ronny Mauricio. I hope they hold on to all of them but I could see Mauricio being moved in a deal for a pitcher with term since his path at SS is currently blocked by Francisco Lindor. I'm a little surprised that Vientos hasn't been called up yet given that the offense has cratered for the most part and Starling Marte is now hurt. The big club is going to need some arms for the pen and a decent bat for the DH position to sustain a pennant run. I'm hoping they can move some lower level prospects to accomplish this. Like you, I want to see the farm system grow to be a robust asset. I'm tired of seeing it gutted for rentals or guys who don't pan out. Unfortunately, big market clubs often times put more emphasis on winning immediately than nurturing and growing their prospects. The Dodgers have done a great job of building a top farm system while still spending on superstars and making astute trades without harming their farm system. That's what I want to see the Mets eventually do, sooner rather than later. Alvarez is the only 'untouchable' in my estimation but Baty is close to being that. If he is moved, it had better be for a controllable stud in a major deal. Speaking of All-Stars, Brandon Nimmo should have been the 3rd homegrown prospect. He should have gone over Marte, IMO. He and Marte have the same wRC+but Nimmo's D in CF is more important than Marte's D in RF. On a personal level, I saw Nimmo and Michael Conforto both in the same game when they were playing for the AA Binghamton Mets (now the Rumble Ponies). They were here in Richmond playing the Flying Squirrels. I really liked Nimmo then. He should be priority #1 to re-sign this off-season, IMO. If they let him walk, I will NOT be happy.

I'm going to miss his constantly wrong picks. Pure entertainment gold. RIP, Hammerin' Hank

They pulled one out of the fire tonight...came perilously close to dropping two out of three to the pathetic Reds but Dom & McCann ended up being the unlikeliest of heroes. Wasting that effort by Scherzer upon his return last night was criminal. This team is going to need a bat for the DH spot and a couple of arms in the pen to make a deep run. Miami comes to The Big Apple for four games before the big showdown with Atlanta. Squish the Fish!

No apologies necessary. Just glad the demons have been vanquished.

The only Starling I'd love to see is Marte... When I was in high school (back in the dark ages), my brother had a buddy who was dating a girl nicknamed 'Bald Eagle' because of her inability to grow hair in a certain...ahem...anatomical area. (True story) 😇

How to organize the new stadium “Wall of Fame”
ExWNYer replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall
No @Gugny without @Virgil. They are TBD's Tom Ruud & Bob Nelson. -
"In order to avoid potential injuries, Bills staff were instructed to handle the players with kid gloves...literally."

Yeah, I was just clarifying for JakeFrommStateFarm who was responding to a post made upthread by Limeaid.

Look at his pic. He resembles every stereotypical 'fuhgettaboutit' Jest fan.

If you want something in a similar vein and haven't read it, check out 'Fatso: Football When Men Were Really Men' by former Baltimore Colts lineman and all-around character Art Donovan. RIP, Goose. 55 is way too young.

Josh Allen - Because who doesn't love this down-to-earth, football-loving, overgrown kid? Billy Shaw - Because my late father is the reason I am a Bills fan and I'd love to thank Mr. Shaw and pick his brain about the AFL. Bill Fichtner or Nick Bakay - Because they are Bills fans, they seem like they wouldn't take themselves too seriously...and it's my dinner. Let's talk Buffalo Bills, gents...

Is this a dry-rubbed moon or a sauced moon?

^^^ This. With championship caliber rosters come tough decisions. As has been stated previously by others, there are a lot of young, talented players coming due for new contracts soon. Poyer is at the bottom or near the bottom of the money list, IMO. Have loved his play over the years but it's not prudent to pay him what he wants at this point. Get your ring and then try to get your money elsewhere next year, Jordan.
