Picks 3, 4 and 5 played Well in Debut!
jethro_tull replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
anything positive about this team is being overshadowed by the injuries and suspensions. stuff happens, sometimes more than others. let's see how they do on the field. the first game went well IMHO. -
Off to a promising start are the healthy members of the Bills first five draft picks. Adolphus Washington had a strong game as starting DT in the first half, doing his job as a run stopper. Cardale Jones showed character and a winning attitude on an impressive last minute drive to try and win the game. Runner Jonathan Williams led the Bills with 44 yards on 8 attempts. Very encouraging play by these three rookies.

How will you refer to the stadium?

The new era of Rich Stadium. Never liked "the Ralph". Ralph Wilson Stadium is OK though. -
Brandon Spikes signs with Bills
jethro_tull replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brandon Spikes is probably the best sideline and on-field cheerleader in the NFL- he really raises the level of team spirit. I wished the Bills would have re-signed him last season. But he is kind of a one-dimensional oddity in the league- a run stuffing LB who isn't fast enough in coverage or rushing. Hopefully the defense can compensate and not let him become a two-down pass coverage liability. -

In fact the first Bills logo was of a cowboy- thank God it didn't last very long. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/f3/52/dc/f352dc16c0f8591a7a8563ea9c20ff9c.jpg -
Reggie Ragland to have knee surgery; out for season

I am completely for sites that allow freedom of expression and freedom from censorship. However it would be nice if people could occasionally self edit. The threads do get unwieldy in a hurry But usually an impressive amount of important Bills news gets told here first and that's what it's all about. -

10 Reasons Why Tyrod will have a great year
jethro_tull replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, interesting site The article is definitely heavy on the Rock a Dile Red but many of the items are relevant to his (and the Bills) success but as we all know none of this puts points on the board or W's in the box score. Change one word- 10 reasons why tyrod taylor COULD have a great season- and no more kool-aid. -

ESPN 30 for 30 - O.J.: Made in America
jethro_tull replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought it was very well done. The viewpoint seemed to slam OJ for not using his celebrity to unite with other black militants at the time to advance racial justice and equality. That he sold his out for his own gain, in stark contrast to Mohammed Ali who sacrificed his career and potential endorsements for the cause of his race. While this may be true, OJ's actions were extremely important to the cause of racial equality. He was literally the first african american superstar embraced and loved by white mainstream america. by not acting defiant and militant, he paved the way for many others. -
Will the Bills make the playoffs this year?
jethro_tull replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yes. because there is less separation between the Bills and the best teams. -
Tyler Matakevich, ILB Temple. He is now a four-year starter and had the most career tackles by any active player in the FBS at the end of last season. Matakevich also became just the seventh defender in FBS history with four straight 100-tackle seasons. "Mat is the heart and soul of that defense, everything goes through him," an NFC North executive told NFLDraftScout.com during the season. "That's something that shows up on film and during practice. He knows his physical limitations, but works like the devil to max out all of his senses. You don't have as much production as he has just by accident." STRENGTHS: The unquestioned leader of the Owls, Matakevich doesn't play with hesitation, showing terrific first step quickness and anticipation to read and react with little wasted movement. He takes smart angles with strong hands to make finger-tip tackles and take-on blocks, shedding to unglue himself from bodies. Has terrific timing as a blitzer and plays like a controlled mad man, hitting another gear once he sees red. He also does a nice job floating in zone coverage to attack throwing lanes and break up throws http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1983609/tyler-matakevich

I am sick and tired of watching big athletic TEs get behind the Bills' LBs and then just run over the small DBs in the secondary. The LBs are not athletic enough for coverage. The DBs are too small to stop a charging TE. This has been a match up issue that other teams have exploited all season long- beginning with the Patriots' Rob Gronkoswki and most recently with the Redskins Jordan Reed who ran over the Bills DBs without much trouble. In between there was the Bengal's Tyler Eifert and the Chief's Travis Kelce who shredded the Bills for 69 critical drive saving yards and a TD. This week it will be Jason Whitten, whom even Kellen Moore should be able to get the ball to. Unfortunately this is not an easy fix- you can't do it with schemes and coaching. The players that can do this are not on the Bills roster. A glaring failure of the front office to properly field a defense that can match-up and be competitive with the best in our division, conference and league.

Where did it go wrong in 2015
jethro_tull replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point but the matchup issues remain. They didn't win when it counted- e,g, the Patriots, and teams out of the division have exploited the weak LBs / flyweight DBs with their tight end based passing game- most recently the Redskins (Jordan Reid) and going back to the Bengals game as well with Tyler Eifert. Other teams are watching and modeling a TE based offense as modeled by the Patriots. The Bills defensive personnel roster has failed to match up against this type of offense. It isn't coaching- it's size and athleticism issues. -

In a TE stoked division, the Bills defense is flat out not equipped to compete. Gronkowski, Jeff Cumberland (6'-4), and Jordan Cameron (6'-5) can create matchup nightmares for the Bills who have very poor coverage LBs. Brown was rated worst in league, Lawson is good for run stuffing and blitz only, Bradham is worse than Brown and Tarpley should not be on an NFL roster. Once the TEs get to level 2, now the Bills flyweight DBs are supposed to stop them? Darby is 5' 11 and Robey is 5' 8, 165. Those are matchups made well south of heaven. Extremely poor coverage LBs combined with flyweight DBs who cannot tackle big men in a TE happy division is a recipe for disaster. That is where it effin went wrong in 2015! -
Besides Manny Lawson, the Bills LB corp is just plain awful. Brown was just rated the worst LB in the league and Bradham / Tarpley are worse. Darby and Robey are lightweight DBs who simply cannot cover Tight Ends, much less tackle them. Robey is 5'-8" for crying out loud. In a TE happy division this is a glaring weakness that can be matchup exploited all day long. So the Bills have a defense with crappy Linebackers and DBs that can't matchup to TEs. Basically we are screwed. Add in the first round QB bust plus the steep price for Watkins and Whaley gets a failing grade. The team is ill equipped personnel wise to compete within our division. This is a fundamental failure- make it an F.

in some ways no- because there is always a transition / learning year for a new coaches. the biggest issue i have was all the boastful, big talk in the off season. that should have never happened. in some ways yes because it seems as if the problems within the Bills culture and organization are so entrenched that it will take more time to turn things around.
