49ers are another circus team. the leaks about harbaugh leaving, being out of the playoffs a well as harbaugh's extremely irritating personality and we have another wuss team of limp dink cry babies. disgusting.

You all ready to ride the cutler train might want to hold on to your tickets. the benching by trestman is worth zero in the eyes of the next regime. it is a too little, too late desperation move by a lame duck coach. HOWEVER- it might just work for him. IF the team rersponds with a gangbuster effort and beats the lions, espspecially if the defense awakes from the dead, trestman (who has received the nickname "dr death" by local fans and media) could pronounce jay cutler as the team cancer. Many of the flock would buy into this. Likely outcome- the next regime assesses the available QB talent and sees Jay as the best option in the near term and gives Jay another chance.

Eric Wood's hit on Clay Matthews
jethro_tull replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who wants to chip in and send Clay a Fathead poster of that hit? - Schwartz failed as a HC. he had lots of talent and more than enough chances to make it work in detroit. a team will need to be desperate to sign him to that position again. -

jethro_tull replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i was completely impressed by his energy and the way the team responded when he came into the bills game. all afternoon hoyer was a zilch and in pops manziel, boom- moves the ball downfield and scores a TD. -
Officials Massaging the Game Thread

let me axe this question- does anyone agree that last season the refs often seemed to give the bills breaks on key plays that allowed them to sustain drives? just my overall impression from last year. probably the only season where i felt they were the recipient of favorable calls. speculation would say that they did not want the bills to be awful, especially with a headline making QB daft pick. this year it seems that they want to hold the bills back. -
Officials Massaging the Game Thread

interesting and depressing at the same time. having had these thoughts at times the question becomes why doesn't the truth come out- at least a peak under the curtain. everything comes out- even the president getting a b j in the privacy of his own office or classified information posessed by the national security administration. if the nfl were rigged i would have to believe it would be exposed- especially in this day and age. someone would be a whistle blower for the sake of the game. the other thing is risk vs. reward. the nfl is riding high and does not need to rig games. if something like this were exposed, the league would be tarnished for a long time. flip side is that there are huge sums of money bet each week. -
Officials Massaging the Game Thread

There were (2) calls in the Denver game that had ZERO to do with coaching discipline. They were total non-calls that the refs blew. Each call came on critical 3rd down plays and resulted in the broncos retaining possession and in the red zone with a first down. These had a huge impact on the outcome and in close games like that the bills cannot afford that against the NFL elite. Not that the Bills are ready to compete for a super bowl, but I am livid nonetheless that marginal, questionable if not phantom calls are against the bills in super critical situations that result in huge advantage for the other team. The refs in the denver game totally sucked and I am still pissed about it. -
A Few Passing Thoughts About The Denver Game......
jethro_tull replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that this is a winnable game. We just need an offensive game plan that works within the capabilities of the team. These past few weeks the game plan was clearly more of a passing based attack and although the team won, it was not because of the offense. Facing better offenses than the Jets and Browns will require a better Bills offense. The last Dolphins game was a good example. Unfortunately the running game is not at its best given a hampered Freddy, a missing CJ and an OL that is still having trouble opening downfield running lanes. Winning this one will require a perfect offensive game plan and will be challenging given the circumstances. -
IMHO some of the personnel on offense are keeping this team from legit contention, not the coaching. Love Freddy and what he has done for this team but his quickness is gone. CJ can't really be as effective as he could be in the run game because the OL is still sub par in run blocking. Chandler is a great backup, but not even close to a Gronkowski. Orton could improve with more reps and a legit run game to keep the defense honest but he has a low ceiling. Upgrade those areas and this team is righ up there even with the same coaching staff.

Well said! Those SB losses were tough on the psyche for sure but man, I remember the Music Shi&ty Miracle like it was yesterday and really really need to exorcize those demons.

"If you have to ask....."
-
agreed. personally not banking on a win for the NE game, just saying that we could lose the KC game and still make the playoffs if the final game is meaningless to the patriots.
-
i can't get that picture out of my head of that miami night game where ricky williams ran roughshod over us. hoo boy was that bad.
-
absolutely. don't rule out the patriots having clinched HFA and resting many of their starters in the final matchup. they smell blood and want another shot at a championship.
-
completely disagree. it is far from exciting football but a W is a W. winnng ugly, as was the slogan for some chicago white sox teams who were horrible offensively yet played very good "small ball" and defense to win a championship back in '05. true, it was painful at times today. however, no ints and orton is still in good health. the OL is still marginal at best.

Kyle Orton Gets Fantasy Plug vs. the Jets
jethro_tull replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it seems as if the fantasy gurus had it figured correctly! the o-line pass protected better than last week, but run blocking was horrible. it also seems like the coaching staff knows the roster well and definitely have the running back depth chart where it should be. although credit to the jets defensive line who are very good stopping the run. playcaling was conservative- excruciatingly conservative most of the time- yet a W is a W! the Bills are well positioned to make a real run for a WC. Unfortunately the patriots are on a mission and look to give the broncos a challenge. the patriot defense is surprisingly real. Go Bills! time for a well deserved extended rest! -
Kyle Orton is receiving props as a fantasy pick this week vs. the Jets based on his 5 TDs and ~900 passing yards in the last (3) games. The Jets have the weakest pass protection vs. TDs scored in the league. I hope they are right! Also, the idea that Nate Hackett plans to "ride the hot hand" between Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon is one I have questioned during many a Bills game lately. The Bills have favored the idea to rest and rotate their featured backs. I have always wondered what would / could happen with keeping the hot back in the game and just keep plugging away, riding the momentum. Kind of like the game was played previous to this. Football is an emotional, momentum paced sport. Runner rips off a big gain, keep him in there and plug away.
-
No. It seems like the best part of the Jets and Ryan's regime left with the departure of Brian Schottenheimer. As to Jim Schwartz departure for a HC job- a head coach who loses his job and lands as a coordinator usually does not make it back to the head coach position.

van was special. we were lucky to have him. not only capturing those memorable bills moment-s he was also a very good nba play by play announcer for the braves and really new the game of basketball. i think he did some college basketball too- maybe canisius? heck- he was an outstanding game show host too on the old "it's academic". murph is good- and i like mark kelso too- but van was once a millenium. you realize after watching / listening to other citiy's local broadcasters how lucky we were. heck, even most national broadcasters are horrid.

When do I allow myself to get excited?
jethro_tull replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed- enjoying one game at a time. Just like what happened to Trent in Arizona could happen to EJ. However I will get excited when the team is playing for their 9th win on the year. Very excited. -
The fans in this area are fuming after losing to the "lowly" Bills at home for the first time in history. Possibly more like foaming at the mouth given that they all believed the Bills to be an easy win. The local media are all in for fueling the fire and have called out Cutler, Trestman and DC Mel Tucker. They cite Cutler "is what he is" an unpredictable undisciplined gunslinger who throws pics at the most inopportune times and will never learn proper footwork or the ability to check down when its called for. The fans are falling just short of being out for blood, but the absolute indignant, entitled and enraged attitude is appaling. These fans don't deserve a winning team and neither do the media blow hards who are so negative and belittling as to make Mike Shopp look like John Murphy. Screw them Jay.
