  1. For those that don't feel like reading the entire thing:
  2. At Dallas by most accounts he inherited a fairly decent team. 1998 he went 10-6 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. 1999 he went 8-8 and somehow made it to the playoffs, and again lost in the first round. So in his 2 years at Dallas, where player wise he was able to hit the ground running, combined he was 18-14 or 0.563% and 0-2 in the playoffs. And the trend was downward. Jones stopped the bleeding. GT bought out his contract they were so desperate to stop their bleeding. Since he started his career coaching in 1974, the Bills make it by my count 11 teams. That seems like a lot to me. And excluding some division 2 success, nothing anyplace to write home about from what I've read. I don't think "flame out" is too strong. But he is our coach, and maybe working with Nix there will be the chemistry needed to make it "be different this time around". As Bills fans we can only hope so anyway.
  3. That is well said in my opinion and sums up my feelings on the situation. No reason to start calling for Chans head on a platter yet, but it did have me shaking my head at the time as well.
  4. No he doesn't. Go to a game last season or watch on TV? After 9 years of suckitude and counting, the season ticket sales record was set. He doesn't have to worry about the fans, he owns the fans.
  5. Why is it so hard for people to grasp that this is year 1 of a rebuild cycle in the eyes of the Bills FO?
  6. Well, I'm not sure stupid is the word I would use. Loyal to a fault maybe. But they have shown they will fill the stadium no matter how terrible the team is, or how long it has been terrible. So it is safe for the Bill FO to assume the stadium will continue to be full those 8 ... err ... 7 home games.
  7. Would have been a waste of money for the Bills to pay that with no supporting cast.
  8. That's what the Bills FO like to hear!
  9. No it wouldn't. 99% of the fights are the direct result of extreme over intoxication. That hasn't changed in the 30 years I have been going to Bills games, and it's not about to stop now. People feel it is their right to over drink all day then go into the stadium and be A-holes. If they did that anywhere else in society, including Sabres games, they would be out on their asses. And Bills management knows that intoxicated fans spend more money than families with kids so they like things the way they are as well.
  10. Absolutely correct. RW could dress a local high school team for a season and the hard core Bills fans would continue to "support their team" by buying tickets.
  11. What makes you think the Bills FO gives a **** about the fans or what they think. The core "bleed red and blue" and will buy the tickets no matter what. Look at last year, 9 years of **** and no moves to make anything any better except for signing TO to get a little media attention and they sell the most season tickets in their history. Whatever they do or don't do, they aren't worried about ticket sales.
  12. Edwards and Fitz certainly have shown that they are not starters. The job is currently his by default
  13. What Buddy needs to do is start rebuilding. If he can find some short term help in FA while we rebuild then great. But it is not a priority in my book. We didn't go down the crapper in one year, it took many. So don't expect to rise like the phoeNix in one year either. I fully expect us to end this coming season with a worse record than last season. Which is normal when you have a massive rebuild in progress. If we end up even with last season I will call it a big success.
  14. It isn't negative, just factual. Unfortunately the facts are negative if you live there.
  15. Geez you guys. Maybe Gailey and Co. saw something they liked in the kid and decided to give him a flier. What's the worst that could happen ... they got some cheap camp fodder. What's the best ... they got a gem on the cheap. It's a no lose situation for them. In any event, no reason to whine about a fodder signing. Save the whining for when there is something to whine about.
  16. Here we go embellishing again. And here I go trying to reel it in again Yes, he made the playoffs both seasons in Dallas. The first one a little over .500 and the second at .500 for the regular season. Squeeked in basically. Lost both games. Nothing great. And he had more to work with there than he does now. Talk to people who follow GT football. GT bought him out of his contract so that they could fire him quicker. Not sure they agree with your "fine" assessment. In fact, the working theory is that he was bought out before he could do any more damage to the program. And that was at the 2nd best football school in Georgia. He is our coach and hopefully working with Nix is a good combination and good things will eventually happen. If not this season, then within three. But don't get your hopes up too high by looking at his record through Duffs-sauce colored glasses.
  17. Entirely new coaching staff. More holes than swiss cheese to be filled by the draft and FA. New defensive scheme. Who knows what the offensive scheme will be. No clue who the QB or #1 WR will be. Predicting a season result now is silly. You might as well use a random number generator where the two numbers add up to 16.
  18. Both ends of the spectrum heard from again, but both missing reality (at least in my opinion). Gailey has had a extraordinarily mediocre career both as a professional, and as a college coach. HC or assistant. He has neither "repeatedly failed" or "done pretty well". He has been essentially a .500 coach who has bounced from job to job. Which is granted, a improvement over recent Bills history. But no reason to be booking your superbowl reservations either. Keeping his actual history in mind is wise in my opinion, particularly this coming season.
  19. You need to remember too, that there is no salary cap. But their also is no salary floor either. So all of the borderline practice squad players will most likely have their salaries cut significantly thus saving teams money. This is why the players union is for salary caps (and floors).
  20. What about all the other firings and mediocre results for his entire career to date? I agree that there is no reason to throw Gailey under the bus without giving him (another) chance. But if your definition of "getting on the bus" is blind loyalty and being intentionally ignorant of Gaileys history then I believe you are the one who needs to get over it.
  21. My kids are off from school today (snow day). My son made sure to let me know what HE was going to be doing at 3pm while I was working!
  22. I can usually make it back by the end of the TV timeout. Besides how many goals have been scored in the last 20 seconds!!
  23. And there is none of that in a NHL game. Fighting is not necessary in my opinion, and the Olympics shows that pretty well. But it is a very popular aspect of the game. Watch the crowd the next time you are at a game and notice the response to a good play as opposed to when two guys drop the gloves.
  24. I just googled and they are apparently 2 minutes long. So 18 minutes. So for a 2.5 hour game that's what, 12%. It's a great time to hit the head at the arena
  25. My guess is the bartenders did not want any of the drunken !@#$ pats fans to start a brawl in their bar with you.
