[closed]Dont play EJ Manuel game 1. Period
CodeMonkey replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me it is pretty simple, if Manuel's knee is 100%, he is physically fit, and Marrone thinks he is prepared then play Manuel. Otherwise Manuel holds the clipboard week 1. -
If you were Belicheat, how would you prepare?
CodeMonkey replied to snydert317's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this. He will probably prep for a rookie QB and if it ends up being Tuel he gets a bonus of going up against a less talented rookie QB. While we secretly wish he and the rest of the team are looking past the Bills to the Jets, just 4 days later -
A rookie QB had surgery on his knee and has not been physically practicing, but apparently has been a part of the mental prep etc. You guys must know more than I, Manuel, and Marrone do to be so sure he will start in a very short time from now

I think we're overreacting with the game yesterday.

Believe me, the Bills homer announcers are equally as brutal. Particularly Tasker. Loved him as a Bill, hate him with a white hot steaming hate as an announcer. -
Unless I put my tin foil hat on and think that his knee injury is worse than reported and he will miss the first few games and Marrone is just messing with BellyCheat
-
He wasn't going to play much Thursday night anyway. No way he misses the opener if he is healthy. Nothing to see here.

I seriously doubt they are going to get a good corner for a safety. Trading for a couple high draft picks might be possible if a team thinks they are short just that one piece of the puzzle. My current view from the outside is that the Bills are already in trouble this season in terms of making the playoffs. If the view from the inside is the same, then why not get rid of a disgruntled player who you only have for this season anyway. Try and cut your losses, or maximize your return, depending upon if you are a glass is half empty or full kind of person. Now if they think Manuel is going to start week one and light it up, and Pettine has the D ready to kick ass and take names with or without Gilmore, then forget what I said above. But if not ...

Bills plan for Tuel as week 1 starter

I will have no more of this kind of talk! I need the rest of the home games to sell out so I can watch them on TV and this kind of talk is counter productive! -
Bills plan for Tuel as week 1 starter
CodeMonkey replied to DisplacedBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not at all. No reason to panic, at least not yet. EJ can't practice yet so for now they are proceeding as it Tuel will be the starter. What else could they do at this point? Get in off the ledge people -

Bills QB situation going into regular season...
CodeMonkey replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take is that the Bills are not sure if Manuel will be able to go week 1 or not at this point. They need more than one healthy arm not only for Thursday, but for the start of the regular season. I figure that Kolb is out now, either retired (hopefully) or put on IR then cut. I feel that Tuel was on the final roster even before Kolb went down. He has shown enough in camp and preseason to be a capable backup and the Bills would not want to risk him getting picked up on waivers. The would have kept all 3 before Kolb went down for this season, and will keep 3 now with Leinart instead of Kolb and put Lewis on the practice squad. It looks like the Pats* game could be brutal. Even if Manuel can go, he is bound to be rusty, and is a rookie to begin with. And Leinart or Tuel starting is the stuff nightmares are made of. The Bills D so far does not look like it can stop Marcia and the boys. The Bills only hope is that either the Bills D has a fantastic game plan for the Pats* that works perfectly all game, or that the D and/or Spiller stands on their head and steals the game. I just hope Marrone does not put Manuel in if he is not ready. The last thing we need is for this to turn into a serious injury that keeps him out for the season. -
Bills reportedly concerned Kolb's career over

Concussions are cumulative. Doesn't matter how severe this one is. Sad to see this but I sure hope he retires if this is his third. -
Questions I have from the 'Skins PS Game
CodeMonkey replied to Matt in KC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1) Against strong o-lines they won't get much pressure on the QB (like yesterday) so the CBs won't be able to play up tight all the time. 2) Not sure. Maybe they know what they have in him already or maybe he is dinged up as well. 3) It is preseason for the zebras as well. -
Half of the players don't see the field now except for special treams. I don't see how a bigger roster would be an incentive for coaches not to put their best players on the field. Football by it's nature is a violent sport. When it first started players were a lot smaller and did not have the training methods,. nutruition experts, and yes the drugs to make them into the beasts that play the game today. Hell, high schools now have all of that and are turning out very big strong and fast players. Unfortunately the brain hitting the skull happens more and more due to those other advances and there isn't anything, in my opinion, that can be done with equipment to prevent that.

I thought I saw a lot of blitzes out of the Bills D yesterday which I would not call vanilla. I could be wrong though. What would have made it not vanilla to you? -
anyone worried about the running game?
CodeMonkey replied to enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That does not affect the running game ... and either did the skins yesterday. The Bills running game does not concern me much as long as Spiller stays healthy. However, the Bills opponents being able to run at will against the Bills D is very concerning. -
Actually it's a bit worse than that. The Bills blitzed quite a bit again yesterday which they diid not do last season. But most of the time the skins (3rd and 4th) QB had all day to go through their progressions and make the completion. Was what we saw yesterday the reason Wanny did not blitz last season? Hopefully not, but we will begin to see in just a couple weeks.

I don't think he will physically abuse them Monday. Not with another game Thursday night. But, I would not want to be in any meetings with any of the coaches today or tomorrow. I'm sure all of them, particularly the #1's, will be getting multiple ears full.
-
According to the Bills homer announcers yesterday, Marrone was curious to see how his team did against a physical team like the skins. Sadlly, he did. Not the end of the world of course, but making the skins 3rd and 4th QB's look reasonable (I thought Pat White looked very good and Grossman looked bad) in the 3rd preseason game is not a good sign. Along with no answer to a running game was concerning as well. I was not, and am not, expecting much this season. Steady improvement throughout the season on both sides of the ball setting up for a strong 2014. I still think that is possible.

Byrd signed tender [update: may still want to be traded]
CodeMonkey replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I question the logic of any team paying big $$$ to a player, who doesn't want to be on that team, for one season. I would think as a GM/coach you would go out of your way NOT to do that. -
the QB competition is over - EJ is your winner
CodeMonkey replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But, for the price of one roster position you get emergency backups for four positions. I'd like to see them keep Tuel as well. In my opinion the kid has earned that much. But I can see where Marrone might not want to cut Smith.
