  1. This team has quality defensive talent, I don't know why people ignore that aspect when talking about the talent level on this team. Even entering the season the team had a quality secondary, a young LB core with potential, and a decent D-line which added Star and Murphy to it. Yes it is true that the offensive talent is pretty **** (maybe the worst in the league certainly a bottom 10 or 5 unit) but this team is not the Browns from the past two seasons or the 2008 Lions. That being said McD in my opinion is a good coach, he knows the value of everyone buying into the goal of the team and he knows how to motivate players. McD also knows how to keep a team together even after several blowouts. After the 5-2 start when the season could have easily started to get away from the team after the Jets loss and several other losses the team rebounded and won enough games to secure a winning record and with some luck make the playoffs. Even this season after a completely awful loss in Baltimore and a bad loss to the Chargers at home the season could have easily slipped. At 2-3 the Bills are way better record wise than I thought they would be (I thought 0-5 or 1-4 at best.) I think coaching wise the team is in good hands. Yes I do have my concerns about offensive play calling and offense in general. But I do think that the defense is in very good hands and that McD does know how to manage the team and its culture very well. I think an NFL coaches job heavily involves how they manager the locker room and team psyche. McD has that component down in my opinion.
  2. The Bills do have good defensive talent, the offensive talent just isn't very good. However I do agree that McD is much more aggressive than Jauron both in terms of his play calling/decision making and in terms of his personality. I think people view the vaguely similar Cover 2 defenses and the bend don't break nature of their defenses and they assume that McD is similar to Jauron. It's just lazy thinking by fans.
  3. Hughes will be 31 next season pass rushers tend to stay productive in their early 30's (the cliff for pass rushers tends to be 32/33) so I certainly think that if you also factor in his role in the locker room along with his current level of production I think Hughes has to be on the 2019 roster. Hughes isn't paid a crazy contract for his level of production so I don't see why he wouldn't be on the 2019 roster. I think if Hughes ends up playing at his current level then I can't see any sensible fan calling for him to be traded.
  4. The game reminded me of the Falcons games last year. The Bills got lucky behind some timely turnovers and a big kick at the end of the game. But good teams find ways to win and that's an underrated quality for a team to have. The defense looks to be picking up where they left off last year but with better run defense overall. The offense is still a work in progress but Shady seems to be going which will lift all boats. Special teams was sloppy but came through in the end. This has been a very weird and inconsistent season but at 2-3 facing a tough schedule you have to trust the process for now.
  5. Dude is massive, he looked to be the center of gravity for the defense. A very good pickup.
  6. He was a 30 year old running back coming off of 2 seasons where he looked shot, add in a long injury history and people were confused as to why the Bills paid 3 million for him. Clearly he still has some gas in the tank left. But I was among those that didn't get the price the team paid for him.
  7. I admit I thought we overpaid on the signing. I actually liked the signing as I thought the team could have either paid less for him or found a big back like that for less. Either way he has proven to be a good complement to Shady.
  8. Whaley brought in InCog, traded for Shady, signed Tyrod (say what you will about him but Tyrod was a huge upgrade at QB from EJ), signed Lorax, and also found Mills who was/is a decent RT who they got for basically nothing. Whaley was also working with McD when they found Hyde, Proyer, and Haush. Whaley wasn't perfect there were some misses but the pro-personnel decisions were very good overall. That being said Whaley isn't coming back nor would it be a good idea to bring him back. In any organization you can't have someone who used to be the boss working under the guy that forced him out. Also a lot of the pro-scouts that Whaley assembled are probably no longer with the organization. The Bills should probably just look to invest in better overall pro-scouting
  9. Didn't see him come up slow or leave the game.
  10. Big hold there, would have been a momentum killer had they not had that hold.
  11. That return hurts, hopefully they can make a hold to a field goal.
  12. That's a fair point, but I think that there is just nothing to be gained from starting Anderson other than having him take the beating instead of Allen. I think it also would greatly hurt Allen's confidence to have him benched for Anderson half way into the season. I can see why someone would want to yank Allen out but I just think the risk of injury is worth the benefit of him seeing the field.
  13. Carson Palmer said Jon Kitna helped him out a lot, Mahomes said that Alex Smith really helped him out last season. So there have been cases of it happening.
  14. I think Allen getting experience is worth the risk and I don't see any upside to starting Anderson other than not putting Allen out there. Don't get me wrong I can see the argument for having an option to pull Allen if he just looks like he is going to get himself hurt out there. But I think you have to give Allen a few more games to see progression in his ability to get the ball out quicker. As far as Peterman I think he sticks around for next weeks game if not two more games. QB's take a lot longer to learn a playbook and get acclimated. It doesn't hurt to have one extra week of having a QB that is fully entrenched into the offense on the roster.
  15. It's going to depend on how well Clowney performs this season. If he gets double digit sacks and is outright dominant than it is likely he will at least come close to Mack numbers. I could see the Jets or Colts shelling out big money to acquire a pass rusher like him. But if Clowney doesn't put together a bit more consistency than I think he takes a deal two notches below Mack. Odds are he signs a deal at 20 million aav or at worst 17.5 aav if his season is good not great.
  16. The NFL's roster rule are stupid, just allow up to 53 players to suit up. Let the teams make injured players inactive. The fact that the rosters are 53 to being with is so idiotic, it piratically forces players to come back from injury earlier than they should because the team needs the bodies. Rosters should be 60-64 players with no inactive requirements.
  17. It's going to take a little bit of time for Anderson to know the playbook. At least two weeks to familiarize himself with enough of it. So Peterman is likely safe for the short term. But I don't see this as a move to push Allen to the bench. There is nothing to gain by having Andreson play. I see this more as a move to improve the backup situation if Allen gets hurt and to give Allen a veteran voice to lean on.
  18. Dilfer isn't wrong but the Bills just don't have a choice. The worst QB in the league is Allen's backup. Sadly I just don't see any alternative to playing Allen. I wished that the Bills had a decent O-line and some receivers for him to throw to but sadly they are eating a lot of dead money to get out from under contracts and they made two big trade ups that gutted draft capital. They have a compromised roster that Allen is suffering from.
  19. My hope is that the Bills if they do land a top 2 pick are able to get a trade down to acquire a haul of picks. I am not sure how coveted the QB prospects will be in this upcoming draft nor am I sure the Bills will land a top 2 pick. If the Bills end up picking in the middle to back end of the top 10 (Which is where I think they will end up picking between 5-8) I hope there is either a WR or OL prospect worth taking up that high. But free agency is where they have to re-infuse the team with talent to make a run with Allen while he is still on a rookie deal. They in my mind should be able to land a top guard and one of the top two centers on the market. Adding two starters on the interior OL would help the OL improve greatly, although I would prefer also fixing the RT spot too, I am not sure the team would spend on three big OL contracts but two is a must. WR should be addressed at least partially, the market for WR's isn't great but even getting two solid players there would greatly help Allen. Defensively the team should look at a slot corner as it is a cheap fix to one of the few needs the team has. The only primary need on defense would be pass rusher adding a vet on a short deal might work out to improve the only weak aspect of the defense. I suspect that if the Bills are drafting between 5-8 the three top picks should be on the offensive side of the ball. WR, OL. and WR/TE should be the first three picks position wise (Although you never know how prospects fall.)
  20. It's tough that the Bills couldn't have hit on that pick (Or at least Zay hasn't panned out yet, its only 25% though year two) it would be helpful for the team going forward to have a good young WR, it would make building up that unit a lot easier to do.
  21. Hughes will be 31 next season and I am not sold on Murphy on anything other than a situational pass rusher (Still has 12 more games into the season maybe he shows more) unless Lawson shows that he can be a front line pass rusher I think the Bills should looking into adding a veteran pass rusher. Clowney is a dominant front line player and would worth a massive contract, I don't think that the Bills would pursue him if he even hit the market but a dominant pass rusher is the one few remaining big front line needs of the defense (I see Hughes as a 2nd pass rusher and Murphy as a situational player, jury still out on Shaq but he looks more like a situational player.) Odds are the big money in free agency will be spent along the O-line as there are a lot of good interior O-line players on the market. But I do feel like the Bills should pursue a pass rusher even if it is a player like Brandon Graham on a short term deal. I do think if the Bills do end up with a top 2 pick there might not be a trade down worth it and it looks like the top two picks might be pass rushers (Oliver and Bosa) it just might be a point where the Bills circumstances dictate that they take a pass rusher a top the draft and they don't address WR until round 2.
  22. Whaley and Co filled out the offensive side of the ball fantastically in free agency/trades. InCog was a gem, Shady was a steal, and even Clay was solid although overpaid. Plus for all the **** Tyrod gets he was a cheap and massive upgrade over the play at QB. It was just the defensive scheme change took at top 5 defense and turned it into a mediocre defense. If somehow the team could have kept Schwartz but still made the same offensive moves (Which to Rex's credit the Roman hire and the InCog signings were his ideas) then I honestly think the Bills would have made the playoffs and won 10 plus games in back to back seasons maybe even winning a playoff game or two. Now I think the 2019 off-season is one of the most critical the team has had in a very long time. They need to hit on 4 or more free agency signings and bring in another solid draft class. WR the biggest need but a fairly weak WR class. Odds are the draft will be where WR is addressed more. Interior O-line is a very strong class and probably where the team can really fill needs and spend money. Pass rusher might also be a spot worth taking a shot at.
  23. Gilmore was a very good player, but I never thought he was a top 5 player at his position at best he was arguably bottom top 10 for one to two seasons. His last two seasons in Buffalo he was a very inconsistent player, getting burnt or playing very well from game to game. 2014 and 2013 were his best seasons but as I said he was never an elite corner in those years. White is playing at a top 10 level right now and could easily be in the conversation as a top 5 corner soon. I wouldn't write of Revis as not being a really great corner that one year he was with the Pats*. On that team Revis was a top 5 (if not top 10) corner in the league. He might not have been quite Revis island but he wasn't that far off.
  24. A lot of players love it early on in their career (Less pressure but you still get to live in the NYC area, hell the old area was closer to New York city than most parts of the outer boroughs) but then they usually want to play in bigger markets as they get deeper into their 20's. There are exceptions of course. Brodeur might be the best ever at his position and he never left until the very end of his career and even one guy who left in his prime Scott Niedermayer left to play in the New Jersey of the West Coast Anaheim (Mainly because he wanted to play with his brother too.) I think if you want the least amount of pressure but still want to be in a relevant area playing for a secondary type team like New Jersey or the Islanders is probably your best bet. The Nets, Devils, and Islanders being the second tier teams of second tier sports (No offense to hockey and basketball but in terms of local popularity in NYC Football is king and baseball rules the summer) makes those three teams virtually invisible. Even the Jets and Mets can fly under the radar a little bit more than a team like the Brewers or Bucks can in their respective markets.
  25. Exactly I can't see MLB's commanding more than 10-12 million a year. A great MLB can be an integral part to your run defense, a major part in defending the short and intermediate passing game while also adding in a little to your pass rush. However they aren't primary pass rushers and the market for them isn't too crazy.
