  1. It's the old negging technique. Don't act that interested in the product so that the cost goes down. I don't think it will work necessarily but it is the appropriate move.
  2. The market for WR has been very hot, still a few decent players left though. Possible starting caliber WR's - Terrelle Pryor, Jordan Matthews, Mike Wallace, Michael Crabtree Other notable players on the market- Eric Decker, Bruce Ellington, Brice Butler, Kendall Wright, Jeremy Maclin, Markus Wheaton Only other trade candidate I think is out there would be Martavis Bryant who I would love to see the Bills pick up as I don't think he has a big cap number and he likely wouldn't cost much draft pick wise.
  3. I think it is a pretty big overpay but at least if we are overpaying for a player it is exactly the type of player that this team needs and a player the coaches know. For everyone saying that we should have signed Poe instead ignores the fact that he signed for 9 million per year (Only 1 million less) and who knows how much it would have taken to get him to Buffalo. Also, Star and Poe are similar players both in style of play and quality of play. I think Poe is a little better and given the choice of Poe for 1 million cheaper or Star I would rather have Poe. But that isn't the choice the Bills had to make. The Bills had to make the choice between what Star was willing to take to come here and what other DT's like Poe were willing to take. Who honestly knows who would have been cheaper in that scenario? I was hoping that Star's number would come in around 7 million maybe 8 at the most. But McD wants the guy and he is a good player, it is a manageable deal to get out of after year 2 and super easy after year 3.
  4. QB's throw the draft value chart overboard. Even if the Bills traded Lawson or Hughes with Tampa to slide up to pick 7 it will take way more than 7 and 22 to get up to number 3 or 2. RGIII cost the Skins a 2nd rounder plus 2 future firsts to go from 6 to 2. That's way out of line with the draft value chart. Goff cost the Rams pick 15, 2 second round picks, a third-round pick, and a 1st and 3rd in the draft the year after. Wentz cost the Eagles pick 13, a 3rd and 4th round pick, the year after 1st rounder and the year after 2nd rounder. Trading up isn't about matching up points on a chart when it comes to QB's. QB is the most valuable position in the sport and if you want to trade up to get one it is going to cost you more because you aren't bidding against a draft value chart you are bidding against what other teams are offering. And if Rosen goes 1st overall and Barkley goes 2nd you bet the Colts are going to get a ton of teams like Denver, The Jets, and Arizona offering big packages of picks to try and land that spot. The Bills can offer more in this draft than any other those teams and offer the same future picks. The Bills are in a good position to get their QB but it won't be cheap.
  5. I suspect that they are working on bringing in at least one more LB in free agency, probably also draft one too. Bills have enough cap space to make 1-2 more significant moves happen.
  6. I think the Bills have room for 1-2 decent signings. They can't go crazy but if there is a starting caliber player available for 3-6 million per they can go out and get them easily. I think the market is still alive with good players who can come in and start, I would love to see the Bills sign 1-2 more starting caliber players. Plug in WR or a guard on the offensive side of the ball and go after a nickel corner or linebacker on defense. The Bills aren't going to plug all their needs in free agency but 1-2 more filled really opens up the draft.
  7. Seems like they have a little more space for a decent mid-level signing.
  8. A huge overpay for sure but not tragic.
  9. Because once you name a QB the starter you can never go back on it Not surprising for the Browns. I think they go QB at pick 1, the Giants take Barkley, the Colts trade down (hopefully with Bills) for Mayfield, and then the Browns set up another draft trading down to a team desperate for Allen (I don't think they take a haul but I bet they hope they trade down with Arizona for a 2nd (probably a swap of a 2nd for a mid rounder) and a first next year. They then set themselves up with another primo pick in next years draft.
  10. Indy at 3 is the trade up. I think the Browns go Rosen and the Giants take Barkley. Indy trades down from 3 to a team that wants Mayfield. I think then at 4 the Browns trade down for a team looking at Allen or they take the best defensive player out on the market.
  11. NFL free agency moves fast but it is only day 2 of the official signing period. There are still plenty of teams with plenty of cap space that need corners and LB's. So I wouldn't say that the market has dried up just yet on these players. But if by next Wednesday these players are still out on the market then clearly the market has passed them up. Gaines I think will be fine I suspect by Monday he is signed. Brown could go either way. I wouldn't mind seeing Brown back on an affordable deal. But Gaines back on a modest deal would be great. The less holes going into the draft the better.
  12. I think that Whaley no matter what was put in a bad spot with the hiring of Rex. The Bills had a defensive unit perfect for a 4-3 system and they forced in Rex who as good a defense coach as he was simply was jamming a square peg into a round hole. So Whaley tried to draft players (Shaq, Ragland, and Washington) to suit Rex's scheme but Rex was gone one year later. So McD and Beane had decided to switch back to the 4-3 and Whaley's last draft class was out of place. Whaley's drafts from 2013-2015 weren't terrible a lot of players from those draft classes are highly productive players in the league (which proves that they were talented players) sure there were some busts (EJ, Cyrus) but overall I thought they weren't bad not good but not as awful as a lot of people thought.
  13. Had they kept Schwartz and promoted him to head coach and hired Roman to coordinate the offense (and made the same personnel decisions on offense which is doubtful unless Roman made most of those decisions) then that 2015 team could have been special even if Mario fell apart on the team (Which might not have happened as rapidly if he was in the right scheme.) They broke apart a top defensive unit in the league with all the pieces in place to implement a new scheme not suited for the talent. They then tried to rebuild it with a fresh draft class and it didn't work. It is unfortunate such an infusion of offensive talent begat such an exedous of defensive talent.
  14. I think Beane knows that most of his draft capital is probably going to go towards picking up a QB. What little is left will likely be spent on the offensive line (Right side is a complete mess) or receiver (which is right now Benjamin and the hope Zay Jones could turn it around.) I think Lawson and Hughes won't command much on the trade market and trading Hughes won't offer much cap relief. Not to mention Jerry Hughes had a decent year least year. He wasn't fantastic but he was decent. Hughes was the best defender against the run and still delivered a good amount of QB pressures. Teams also were running over this team pretty bad the second half of the year. So a pass rushers numbers are going to dip when teams just run all over the defense (less attempts to get a sack.)
  15. What a fantastic deal, Beane might have enough cap space to sign another solid starter and plug one last hole before going into the draft.
  16. Good moves, McCaron is a decent QB. Star and Murphy are quality players who fill some needs, Vonta Davis at the price he was acquired for is a good signing too. Not too thrilled at the Ivory signing at the price either but no GM is perfect. If Beane could find a solid starter at either RG, LB, or Nickle corner I would call this already successful off-season a massive success.
  17. I love this signing. Considering the remaining QB's available McCarron is by far the best and he is a decent stop gap bridge QB probably attained at a good price. My main issue with McCarron before free agency was the large sum of money I thought he would command. But the market came to the Bills and it paid off.
  18. The Jets had 90 million in cap space, you couldn't expect them to sit on their hands, their defense should be competitive if they can find a decent pass rusher (I suspect they will spend pick 5 on a pass rusher) and some more D-line help they might have a shot at a top 10 defense. Their offense needs a lot of work and they won't be able to fill all their needs despite an extra 2nd round pick and all their cap space.
  19. I hated the idea of McCarron when it looked like it would take Mike Glennon type money to sign him. But on a more modest deal McCarron would be a great option.
  20. Offensive skill positions probably but 2 out of the top 3 non-QB needs for the Bills on offense are along the O-line (RT and RG) so even if the unsettled QB need impacts their ability to address WR they still have plenty of defensive needs (LB, Pass rush, nickel CB.) So yes WR might be hard to fill but I suspect that the team has plenty of other ways to go in free agency if that is a big holdup.
  21. He was graded out as one of the best run defenders on the team and is durable. Not to mention while his sack numbers have gone down in recent years his QB hurries and hits haven't dipped that much, so cutting him kills whatever little pass rush is left on this team. I wouldn't be shocked if this team cut Hughes but given the limited cap savings and the lack of demand trade wise I think they keep Hughes or restructure him.
  22. Nickle corner is a huge need, with teams playing nickel 50-60% of the time this team can't afford not to find a decent Nickle back.
  23. It all depends on cost and guarantee (Although terms not being released is generally a good sign.) At 5-6 million per with a guarantee around 12 million I love this deal as it is exactly what this team needed at that position and at a good cost. At 7 million around 15-16 guaranteed (which I suspect it is around) I think it is an OK deal, a bit of an overpay but a respected veteran player that fills a massive need. Much more than 7 million and close to 20 million guaranteed then I don't like this deal as it is too big of an overpay.
  24. Great news, honestly I can't imagine it's at a crazy cost and even with Star in the fold the team needs more at DT, right now Star is the run stuffing anchor, the team doesn't have a whole lot behind Star so adding Kyle adds at the very worst a high end rotational player and at best an above average DT to plug in for one more season while a rookie learns the ropes. Not sure Washington is going to be anything more than camp fodder (Washington should be brought into camp, it couldn't hurt to have him compete for the 4th DT spot.) But with Star signed and Kyle back the team's need at DT is diminished. I suspect that depending on what they do trade up wise the Bills will draft a DT between rounds 2-4 since depth and age is still a concern. I also think Kyle's presence in the locker room is fantastic and a plus.
  25. It's all possible at this point, I think the Beane is clearly building a long-term contender. He is going to make a big play for a QB this year and in 2019 with the massive amount of cap space and a system and coach 2 years in place. By that point the roster will be fully turned over towards the guys McD and Beane want as well. They will have 2 draft classes brought in and a 3rd on the way. They can see where the holes on the roster are and fill them in via free agency. Although I think that Hughes might stay since he seems to be a respected veteran in the locker room and isn't a bad player at all. But once again it seems like Beane is just willing to clear house.
