  1. This is a total assumption but GB's offense was quite good last year, better than 2008 and put up a fair number of points. That may play some role in the defensive stats looking better. Also I wathced their early games. The defense was brutal butgot much better as the season went on. Troup and the coordinator are the keys to success or failure.
  2. What would make Maybin's second season a success? 6 sacks? That would have been second only to Schobel's 10 last year and ahead Kelsay's 5. I think he will pleasantly surprise and with any luck will be a consistent force the second half of the season.
  3. Wang to PUP. Chambers is cut and resigned after first game so his salary is not guaranteed. For the first game they will only have 3 tackles Bell, Green, and Meredith. Levitre can be swung out to tackle in a pinch. Wood and Hangman stay where they are with Wood the back-up Center. They keep two of the project interior lineman - I have no idea which ones. Wood probably does not play the whole season opener as we will have blown the fish out by the middle of the third quarter. Calloway to PS. Chambers is cut after Wang comes off PUP assuming no injuries to the tackle spots. Hopefully Meredith gets some spot duty at RT to see if he can play.
  4. That is odd becuase it probably is a top 3 in the league. Their QB is seriously overrated. How he gets this much press and Leinart is dubbed a Souther Calif flake I have no idea. I hope he goes down in flames this year and takes the whole season with him.
  5. Settle down gentlemen.... DJ and AVP were horrible there is no doubt about that. But.... There were plenty of 3 and 4 WR sets used last year, they used the wildcat, they used Freddie and Marshawn in the backfield together. I am sure they tried to make adjustments. Whether they waited too long I and no one else has any idea. What we know is whatever AVP tried it didn't work at the beginning, middle, end of the game, middle of the field(well maybe a little) or the red zone. He was terribly ill equipped or perhaps just too inexperienced for the OC job. I can not even think of a way Chan can do worse. Well actually I can. DJ played not to lose and kept the games close. The new 3-4 defense that Chan chose to run may be so bad that the games aren't close this year. I just hope that I still care about watching games in October let alone December. Just give me a reason to still watch down the stretch. Let me see Poz develop into a quality LB. Let Maybin develop a second move. Let Bell turn into a decent LT. Give Meredith a chance to beat out Green at RT. Rediscover Roscoe in the offense and find a competent #2 WR. And most of knock on wood no more catastrophic injuries!!!!!!!!!
  6. I watched the Cinci game for the first time last night. Trent looks the same as he has in the past. He was dink/dunk down the field and missed Evans deep. I have said he would be the starter and believe he should be the starter. To say he looks much different, I just don't see that. The difference is that it was Roscoe cathcing the underneath ball and sprinting to the endzone and not Josh Reed who made zero plays. The other difference was the underneath passes were to players who were moving not stationary targets. Even Stupar ws moving(all be it in white man slow motion). I am hopeful this is just the beginning of a true offense under Gailey and not the junior high level we saw with DJ/AVP.
  7. Could have had Brandon Marshall for the same deal. Why did the FO not address the offensive tackle position?
  8. CJ is not going to be the # 2 WR. Why is it assumed Roscoe won't be the second outside WR? He has more experience and more productiviy even at the WR than all the other WR's not named Evans. That is where the Bears play Devin Hester a significnat amount of time. I think it is way to simple to say Roscoe is going to play in the slot all the time. In fact there will be times Evans will be in the slot a yard off the line of scrimmage. Defenses often adjust to this and move their best corners inside. I think the only given is that Hardy won't be lining up in the slot unless it is a bunch formation and he is used as a screen. By simple body size and potenital red zone threat I think Hardy makes the team. If there was a Tony Gonzalez type TE on this team maybe not, but Hardy is the only legit jump ball option in the red zone.
  9. Why do you say there was not more competition? Do you think Gailey just handed the job to Edwards. He has no ties to a single player on this team and htis is his last chance at a HC job. He is going to play who he thinks has the best chance to win. It was about the only thing I respected Perry Fewell for doing. Fitz was obviously his guy and he stuck with it. Who said that? Brohm wil be gone by the final cuts. Levi to the PS. They will start the season with 2 QB's.
  10. I would take the over on that bet. In fact I think I will!
  11. He would be an upgrade over Fitz. I wouldn't mind him on the Bills at all.
  12. Sit Lynch, Spiller, Jackson, Wood, Bell, and Evans. Let Trent hand off three times and sit him too. On defense sit Stroud, Williams, Edwards, Poz, and McGee.
  13. I think they go into the season with just Edwards and Fitz - Go ahead and blast me. Brohm will be cut and remain unsigned - no other team wanted him last year and he hasn't done anything for a team to want him now. Brown will also be cut and signed to the PS. Brohm will be resigned some time after the first game if Trent of Fitz get hurt. I think they will only go with two QB's to make more room for an extra RB at least until Jackson is back, an extra WR(I think they will keep Hardy), and an extra LB. The third QB while not counting against the game day roster still counts in the 53 man roster. I would say it is at least 50/50 there will be a QB added to the team this season who currently is not on the roster.
  14. If one assumes the Bills are in total rebuilding mode(which I do not) and if they were up against a salary cap(which there is not one) then he could be traded for a low round pick to a team that plays a 4-3 defense. That aint happening. My hunch is he will play well at DE and that he is going through the motions of the pre-season just like a veteran should. His only task - don't get hurt. I would be shocked if he even dresses for Detroit.
  15. Didn't you get the memo? Josh McDaniels is a genius. You couldn't possibly hope to understand his depth of thought.
  16. What is "Nearly 50 posts on cutting a 7th round draft pick"? The difference between the Patriots and the Bills...
  17. I thought he would be the back-up guard with a possibility to move to RT in 2-3 years. Cutting him early does not let you put him on the practice squad an earlier. The PS signees are named a few days after final cuts. That being said I think there is a strong chance he ends up there.
  18. I know this is oversimplifying things but one of the strengths of the 3-4 is a variety of blitz packages. I suspect there is a heck of a lot of stuff not on film for them to use against Miami. Countering that of course is the fact that Miami has seen the 3-4 many times in the past two years. Let's hope Troup develops quickly or it is going to be a long year. Williams is just not big enough for the NT spot no matter how big his heart or relentless his motor.
  19. I too am cautiously optimistic about McCargo. Ellis as well. I think Lankster will be cut and I wouldn't be surprised if Corner didn't make it either. Chambers is gone in my opinion. I think they can pick up someone elses training camp cut to fill one of the back-up OT spots.
  20. Still unclear why but WR and DT are the two hardest positions to come in and contribute quickly. Easley would have been the 5th WR and at best would have gotten a few returns and ST play. This gives Hardy a better chance to make the team and find out if he can develop into a productive receiver.
  21. Give you an A for effort but Maybin isn't going anywhere As much as I think Trent's lack of production was DJ and AVP, I thought it was 50/50 he would be the QB pre-draft. After not taking a serious QB contender in the draft or trading for Troy Smith(I really thought this was going to happen) my guess was 90/10 he was going to be the starter.
  22. Yeah and Bobby Beathard drafted Ryan Leaf with the next pick. That worked out well too.
  23. I am getting a bit sick and tired of the lack of Bills coverage. I know - win some games and it will come. But it is ridiculous. You don't even see clips of the team, the stadium, or the fans in any NFL commercials. They are always the last link on ESPN, SI, and Sportsline. For a team with a great fan base that is nationwide(unfortunately due to the exodus of people from Buffalo) they deserve better. Hopefully a nice upset of Parcells' team will bring some attention.
