The offense is doing OK because of Fitzpatrick (who most people are still calling to be replaced asap), not the OL. Wood has been very shaky and the Bills have been sitting him for periods of the game. The problem is that the other options are not doing much better. Nevertheless, you are correct. The defense is a bigger problem right now.

Looks like it is between us and the Panthers for the #1 pick

No they don't. They almost beat New Orleans last week. The Bills haven't looked capable of beating anybody yet this year. -
Too bad. I think it's more likely that Ralph brings Tom Donahoe back.
-
This. It seems obvious to me right now, but the season is still early and the priorities may be adjusted between now and the end of the year. The Bills are too bad to force anything at any position. Except for RB and DB, they really are almost in a pure "best player available regardless of position" situation for every pick in every round.

Forget the run, the Bills have been incompetent defending the pass as well. This was the second ranked pass defense in the NFL last season. The Bills do not have a high talent level, but Jauron and Fewell got far more from these guys than Edwards has. That doesn't reflect well on Edwards and his defensive staff.

1. The Jags just came off a big emotional victory against Indy and have another big division game against Tennessee next week. The Bills are 0-4 and just got smoked. It is likely that the Jags will not be as ready for this game as the others. 2. The Bills just got embarrassed last week. They are going to prepare hard and come out with a lot of emotion against Jacksonville. That will last as long as the game stays close. 3. Jacksonville's offense is not as good as NE or the Jets. I doubt that they can dominate the ball and score the way that they did. Jacksonville is the better team on paper, as are all the teams the Bills play, but looking at the schedule I honestly feel that this is their best chance for a win for the first half of the season at least.

Debunking the 34 is the problem myth

They dumped a lot of good players to assemble that draft. They had better make it count or they are done for a while. -
Evans.

Why the Bills should tank this season
vincec replied to smuvtalker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's the big deal about "bottoming out" or finishing with the #1 overall pick? The Bills haven't stunk all these years because they were going 7-9 or 6-10. It's because they can't draft. Plenty of good players have been taken after the #1 overall pick, just not by the Bills. It's not like the NBA where you can draft one guy and build your team around him. It takes many players to build a championship NFL team and they aren't all drafted in the top 5. -
Evans is a given. They're not going to trade Spiller and the other guys aren't really worth anything.
-
I'm just frustrated because I don't see any master plan behind this. It looks like they had better assets when Nix took over than they do now.
-
But that whole situation was entirely of Nix's creation. What was their plan when they took Spiller in the first place? They obviously planned to move a running back right from the start. It's not like Nix acquired the situation with three backs and needed to move one.
-
Do you think that the difference in the contributions of CJ Spiller and Marshawn Lynch is the worth the difference between the #9 overall pick and a 4th round draft pick? If Jackson is better than Lynch then maybe we should've traded him for a 3rd rounder. Something tells me it would've been pretty tough to get...
-
I think that the poster is evaluating the status of our roster. Would you rather have Marshawn Lynch and the #9 overall pick or CJ Spiller and a fourth round pick? If you think Lynch and the #9 overall then we've gone backwards. And as for Lynch's rushing average, we'll see how good Spiller looks behind the Bills OL. He didn't look too good against Miami.
-
Okay so do we need to trade Lee Evans now?

Bills 4th rounders the past 25 years
vincec replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good work. Trading a young, former pro bowl player for a fourth round draft pick. Maybe we should try trading OUR fourth round draft pick for someone else's young, pro-bowl level player and actually improve the team. I know, we'll get better tomorrow when we hit gold in the draft... -
Who will own the 1st overall pick in 2011?
vincec replied to billnutinphoenix's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you put a rookie QB out there without improving the OL, he will fail and/or get injured. They have got to improve the lines and keep a veteran QB with mobility (i.e. Fitzpatrick) to run the ship until it's safe to put the QB out there... -
Nix has got a lotta 'splainin' to do

I really thought that when they took the TVs out of the weight room all of their problems would be solved. -
I think Chan just put Edwards on the hot seat!
vincec replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. Edwards and his staff have made a bad defense look like the worst one in the NFL. -
Improving the team means turning draft picks into good players not the other way around. Evans may not be a star, but he's a good player. Call me crazy, but I think the Bills should keep the few good players they have and try to get more.
-
Frankly, I can't believe RF played as well as he did given the absolute disaserous play around him. The Bill still probably need to bring in a QB, but if they don't put more talent around him- especially on the OL- it will be a waste of a draft pick as he will surely be destroyed and fail to develop.
-
His injury issues have tarnished his record somewhat, but back in the 4-3, when healthy, he was the best LB the Bills had, IMO. The bills obviously think he's not the same guy anymore. He will definitely be picked up by another team and then we can see if the injuries have hurt his abilities or if he's a good player that the Bills lost.
-
I don't agree with this move, but he is the best OLB on the team right now. Not one of the entire group can rush the passer or cover a TE or back, but at least Kelsay is OK vs the run. I don't understand why it was a 4 year extension, however. He needs to be replaced, ASAP and why would it take 4 years to do it? If he was resigned it should've been for 1 or 2 years max until new players can be brought in or developed. Maybe they assume that he will eventually provide decent depth behind good starters but the contract seems like too much $$$ for that. Oh well, he's a nice guy.
-
My thinking as well. They could've picked up Levi Brown anytime they wanted.
