He will definitely play one more year... as a designated pass rusher if nothing else. I think that it would've been tough to trade him though since he is probably only going to play one more year and only willing to go to a few teams. Who is going to trade a draft pick for a one year player at the end of his career? Is he really the guy that's going to put a team over the top? I suspect that the Bills tried and failed before they released him. He will be picked up as a free agent though... nothing to lose.

BGIOP's Training Camp Report (8/3)
vincec replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Always great to hear first hand training camp reports. I was never that worried about the DL. The Bills had 2 pretty decent linemen (Williams & Stroud), traded for another starter and then drafted two linemen in their top 3 picks. That has to translate into at least 3 solid payers. -
Doesn't everybody on this board?

Tom Cousineau's side of the story.

It's #1 overall picks that they are talking about. Phillip Rivers was a #4 and Biscuit was a #2. -
Titans file Suit agains Lane Kiffin and USC
vincec replied to kota's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sounds like Pola violated the terms of his contract so he may be in some trouble, but I don't see how Kiffin is liable for anything except being a cutthroat. -
Gailey may not necessarily use a RB committee?
vincec replied to Stevie Ray's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Barring injuries, I see Spiller getting 10-15 caries per game and EITHER Lynch or Jackson getting the rest (except for mop up duty). They will have to sort it out during camp and the pre-season. -
Can we please go back to the Bills being like this?
vincec replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still brings a tear to the eye... Just like our current teams, but for different reasons. -
Pat Moran reporting Edwards will be qb1 = continuity of FAIL
vincec replied to bfw1234's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kemp was acquired via a trade with San Diego. He was originally drafted by Detroit. If you consider that it was probably Kelly's time in the USFL under Mouse Davis that lead to initial part of his development then Joe Ferguson is the only successful QB that the Bills have ever drafted and developed in house... that I can think of. -
I remember Gibbs saying later that he was seriously concerned about being fired before he won a single game- would have been the only NFL coach ever to do so. Also, all this talk about Parcells "diminishing returns" made me go back to check some numbers. I thought I remembered that he took over bad teams with aging players and poor future prospects and turned them into winning teams with bright futures... Here's some info for consideration: NE 1982 2-14 (season before Parcells) NE 1993 5-11 NE 1994 10-6 NE 1995 6-10 NE 1996 11-5- went to the SB (Parcells leaves) This is pretty much a one way trip up from the worst team in the league to a SB contender when he left. NYJ 1996 3-13 (season before Parcells) NYJ 1997 9-7 NYJ 1998 12-4 NYJ 1999 8-8 (Parcells leaves) Didn't leave on a high like at NE, but this 8-8 team was far better than the 3-13 team he inherited. Dal 2002 5-11 (season before Parcells) Dal 2003 10-6 Dal 2004 6-10 Dal 2005 9-7 Dal 2006 9-7 (Parcells leaves) He rebuilt a Dallas team that was aging into a perennial contender with young players like Romo and DeMarcus Ware. Keep in mind that the team Wade Phillips took to 13-3, 9-7 and 11-5 records is essentially the one Parcells built. Miami 2007 1-15 (season before Parcells takes over as GM) Miami 2008 11-5 Miami 2009 7-9 Not a winning record last season, but it's hard to argue that Miami is heading in the right direction

I'm sure that all three will have their chance to start games this season. We'll see how they do.

I can't say for sure how I feel about Lee Evans being a #1 or #2 but he's a solid player- one of the few on the team. Still, if he was a true star in hiding you'd have to wonder how an aging T.O. can come in and take over the #1 receiver spot. T.O. had better production and more impact on games and it didn't take long for the coaching staff to make T.O. the go to guy.

I'll step up. I thought they were and still do. At least they are trying, and appear to have accomplished what they set out to in the offseason- they signed a big name championship winning coach, traded for a pro bowl qb and drafted a LT in the first round to anchor their weak line- all things I wish the Bills had done. I wonder how many people on this board would like the Bills to have picked up Shanahan as HC, McNabb at QB and Williams at OT? Have they made some mistakes? Yes, and Haynesworth looks like he may be at the top of the list, but at least they are trying... and money is no object. Eventually, they will get it right and leave teams that try to do things on the cheap in the dust.

+1 If he put his mind to it, he could be the best NT in the NFL.

Yup. It looks like Carroll left USC one step ahead of the Sheriff.

This is obviously the #1 priority ... resign your own players that are productive for you. So what if Clements didn't do well when he left Buffalo? He did well here and because he left the Bills had to spend another high draft pick on a DB to replace him. Same with Greer ... and Willis McGahee ... and Travis Henry. I would even throw Pat Williams and Antoine Winfield into this category. There were good football players, playing well for the Bills, who were allowed to leave/thrown out and left large holes that needed to be filled when they left. The vast majority of your good players need to be resigned so that you can focus on building up your team in the offseason not replacing players that have left.

I always felt that we would've matched up better against SF in 1990, but come on, the Giants got lucky in that game. The Bills were the best team that year. The Bills were underdogs in the other 3 games and had the weaker team so it's hard to blame those on Levy.

The only thing that makes OTAs "voluntary" is that you can't be fined if you don't show up. In reality, players are expected to attend. Everyone else is there. Lynch has no reason not to attend except to "send a message to the team". Unfortunately, that message is that he's not committed to learning the new system, improving or re-establishing himself as a top Buffalo Bill.
-
This is a pretty good list. As has been stated in other posts, I would be surprised for any of those "Guys that will be cut for sure" to even make the team. I would add Johnson, Parrish and Lynch to the "Guys that might get cut". I don't see Mitchell's job on the line this year, however. I also think Maybin gets at least two more years to make something of himself.

Fullback Kyle Eckel worked out for Bills today
vincec replied to muddy waters's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched this guy play live several times at Navy. He is an outstanding power runner and solid all around player, but isn't the fullback basically just a third guard these days for short yardage situations? With that in mind, why bother with a runner? -

Nix: Blockers Get Better With Spiller
vincec replied to symbiant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Usually player turnover, coaching changes and philosophy changes are not good for an offensive line. Offensive lines thrive on continuity and familiarity. Obviously, the players, coaching and system need to be good to start with but it's hard to see how two new starters, a new staff and a new philosophy will provide much help- at least this season. -
I couldn't agree with you more, except for the edits.

Confirmation Jauron Is No Longer Bills HC
vincec replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's easy to pick on Jauron, but one of the reasons the Bills kept drafting DBs is because they kept losing their top guys via free agency. I put that on the front office not the coach. -
This team can go 8-8 this year...if not better.
vincec replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. I agree 100%. Although we should probably wait to see if Gailey can coach before we say that he's good, it's hard to imagine worse game management than Jauron. 2. I would call it break even at best. They add Spiller and some strong role players, but lose Owens and probably Schobel. If they are going to improve, they need LAST years draft picks to step up a notch, especially Maybin. 3. They lost some close games, but also won some that they shouldn't have like against Carolina and Indianapolis. I'd say that their record was a pretty accurate indication of how good they were. I think all this adds up to the same old thing as last season... between 5 and 7 wins.
