This is what I thought when I read this as well. What gadget plays???

I thought I read that Brohm was the number 2 QB, not Fitzpatrick. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/Tough-decisions-made-as-Bills-set-53-man-roster/7baa01c6-60af-4c89-908a-43762f0b01cf "In terms of where he might fit in to the depth chart, Brohm said that he ran the scout team in practice on Saturday, a job traditionally held by the second-string quarterback."

+1 They may figure that Bell has more upsiade, being a rookie, and that they had a decent chance to get him on the PS, but I really liked Simpson.

Not according to BB.com... http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/Bills-release-19-players/b3b9a2bc-3bca-40a3-9ac1-92ee562ecd4c It doesn't even make sense. If the Bills cut Ferguson and McIntyre, then whose the FB?
-
I just don't get concepts like this. There is one ball. If there are two or three RBs in the game, then what are the other two doing? They're not nearly as good at blocking as McIntyre or a lineman and using them as decoys only goes so far. Teams don't run wishbone or misdirection type handoffs in the NFL. Spiller will start with 15 or so carries per game. I think that's a given. If he does well and it looks like he can handle the load, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get up to 20 or 25 per game. The rest need to go primarily to one other back so that he can get into a rhythm too. It'll be Lynch to start with b/c of Jackson's hand. If Lynch does well, it'll be his job. Maybe Jackson comes in for some gadget plays or is traded. Otherwise, Jackson will get his chance to take over the other RB spot it'll be Lynch riding the pine. Gailey is smart enough not to give three RBs 10 carries a game.

Clayton's possible Casualties - List includes many veterans

I don't think that Corner or Youboty are "on the bubble." -
Kelsay is a starter, for better or worse. He is not going to be cut. Here are my surprises: L Brown J Bell Sp Johnson
-
If I were them, I'd keep Ellison, McCargo and Simpson from your list and cut Coleman, Johnson and Bell (would be a candidate for the PS). Also, I keep Lankster (CB) and cut Harris (S). It's dangerous enough going with only 2 health TEs. I don't see how they can dump one of them, even if he stinks, for a FA who's never played in the system before and expect them to step in as an instant starter in 2 TE sets. Foschi will be here until Nelson/Shouman return. Also, what's the situation with Wang? For some reason, I thought he was IRd?

Jackson and Johnson are equal, IMO. Nelson is one step behind them.

Steelers release OG/T Kraig Urbik
vincec replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't know much about Urbik, but the Bills need to look very closely at other teams OL cuts. It would be nice to replace Chambers. I wonder if they're regretting not resigning Richie Incognito now... -
Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4
vincec replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I apologize if I'm misunderstanding something. Who should the Bills keep on their roster in lieu of Brohm? Are you saying that Brohm should be on the roster for now but won't amount to anything? If that's what you're saying then I mostly agree with you. I think that he has shown the ability to become a decent backup, but that's about it. He's a more accurate passer that Fitzpatrick and has shown surprisingly good mobility. If he had the game experience that Fitzpatrick has I think he would've easily beaten him out for the #2. -
Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4

If you think that Brown is better than Brohm right now, you haven't been watching. If you think he has better potential, then why? What is it that you've seen Brown do that you don't think Brohm can and why? -
Has shown flashes of ability, but really struggled when playing in space. He might be useful in some situations, but really Ellison would probably see the field more. I would probably hang on the Ellison.

Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4
vincec replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please... Who was the last QB taken in the 7th round to become a solid NFL starter? He hasn't shown any reason thus far to believe that he is currently better or has a better future than any of the other QBs on the roster, IMO. For every Tom Brady, there are 1,000 late round QB flops. Don't get hung up Brown with the hope that he's going to be a one in a thousand late round miracle, it's very, very unlikely. Keep the better players. -
Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4
vincec replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe I don't get it, but the QB decision is easy to me. You keep your (3) best QBs: Edwards, Fitzpatrick & Brohm. If you don't want to cut him, put Brown on the PS. If he is claimed by someone else, so what? He isn't a high draft pick and you can probably get somebody better as a free agent during the season anyway, if needed. If you like, you can always take another QB in the 7th round again next season... -
Forget about WRs. Look for any decent OT that is available...
-
I look at Maybin and I see a guy working hard and doing the best he can. It's not his fault that the Bills drafted him so high. If he fails to produce (which is starting to look likely), it's the Bills FO that people should be disappointed in (again), not Maybin.
-
I agree, he did not look very good against Cinci. I think that he and the rest of the DEs are looking much better in practice going against the Bills OTs than they are going to look in games against NFL quality players. Still, he and Edwards are the best they've got right now and they're decent. I think the problems the Bills are having on defense are primarily due to the LBs- just like last season. CIN/BUF replay NFLN game thread
vincec replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trent really had a good game here b/c the Bengals DL was crushing the Bills OL. He showed pretty good pocket presence, toughness to shake off hits and quick decision making to make the offense look good. Can't help to worry about the OL however the way the Bengals worked them. PS- Maybin wasn't as bad as I initially thought in this game. -
LT then RT then LT again... need major tackle help.

So, When Do We Get a New Stadium? *****
vincec replied to Dr. Zaius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that this is a fallacy. I live in Charlotte and we have a donwtown football stadium. The stadium plus the associated parking deck and practice facility basically blot out a whole section of downtown and are rarely used. Unlike basketball/hockey arenas, football stadiums are huge and you don't fill them with rock concerts or conventions. Counting home football games, the stadium here might be used 12 dates per year. The teams doesn't even practice on it most of the time. There are the usual built in restaurants, shops and clubs but they don't justify the downtown square footage, IMO. -
Maybe I'm missing something, but just haven't seen anything from Meredith to lead me to believe that he should be starting in the NFL. He was awful last season and has been ok this year when playing against backups. I agree that Green hasn't looked good, but I don't see Meredith as a solution.
