McDermott on thin ice in Philly?
vincec replied to Lintyfresh85's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt that they are candidates. Both are 4-3 guys and Fox is probably in line for another head coaching chance within a couple of years if he goes into broadcasting or something. I would like to see Del Rio though. Yup. It's a tough league. -
McDermott on thin ice in Philly?

Wade and RW left on very bad terms. No way Phillips comes back to Buffalo. What I find interesting that Philly might promote Jauron to DC, while Buffalo might take McDermott as their new DC. Nothing like recycling the other guy's garbage. -
The thinnest of silver linings regarding Maybin

Cool. Maybe the Bills can pick up Jack Del Rio as their new defensive coordinator. Just keep him away from the war room on draft day... -
I wish that we would've kept him as DC, but obviously this was impossible for political reasons.

Obviously, it's because he's working with the same personnel that played under Perry Fewell last season, except for Schobel (and he's not worth the massive drop off in performance), and the defense has been horrible. In fact they used 2 of their first 3 draft picks on defensive players. Putting your players in a position to be successful and adopting schemes to get the most out of them is the definition of good coaching. Playing defenses that you don't have the players to execute or asking players to play positions that they can't (see Kelsay) is bad coaching. What's even scarier is that he's tried to go back to something similar to what the Bills had last season and the performance is still awful. That's doesn't speak well for his ability to make good adjustments or game plan. He still has the rest of the season to show something but he's not looking too good so far. I'm actually curious to see what Gailey does if the performance doesn't improve. It's one thing for a coach to can players that he didn't draft and has no commitment to, but another to can his hand selected DC after one season.

It doesn't help.

Just slightly better than Wilson re-hiring Tom Donahoe as GM.

Was Kelsey playing some defensive end in the 4-3

He saw plenty of time at linebacker though, for all the sense that makes. -
How many more humbling lessons does he need? I think he got it a long time ago. He just sucks.

One of the Bills supposed strengths: Safety

This. They just seem lost out there. Once again though, I blame the coaching for a lot of this. They didn't seem lost last year... -
What I want to know is when are they officially going to take the offensive pass interference rule off the books because for all practical purposes, it doesn't exist.

Prediction: Fitzpatrick Looks Bad Against Baltimore
vincec replied to NaPolian8693's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look, all I'm saying is that with a top 3 pick, the Bills need to take the best player available (unless it's a DB or RB) and that at this point it looks like it may not be a QB. If you disagree with that and think that they should take a QB regardless of ability, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. -
If you say so. I just remember a lot of 4 man and 3 man rushes in the 3rd and 4th quarters except for Evan's TD. Maybe Fitz had chased them off the blitz by then.
-
Bob Sanders doesn't do it. He's hurt more often than Poz is. You're right about the front 7 though.
-
I was a little surprised by the Ravens defensive strategy. I didn't count or anything, but there didn't seem to be many blitzes at all. Not what I think of when I think of the Ravens. In fact, I saw a fair amount of 3 man rush. I think that Fitzpatrick proved that he's too good to play that way. I think the Bills will be seeing a lot more pass rush in the coming weeks. Then we'll see what the OL looks like.

If Fitz keeps playing like this?
vincec replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. If there is a franchise type HOF player available then you draft him. If there isn't, then who would want the 1st overall pick with the giant salary? If the Bills don't see anyone worth drafting, with all of their needs, then odds are no one else will either. -
I would like to hear Gailey give an explanation about Carrington. I wasn't crazy about the pick but he looked OK during training camp. What happened that he's not even active???

Those are some well reasoned points that you make. It's hard to believe that more people are swayed by your arguments.

Here's Draftek's big board: http://drafttek.com/2011players.asp There's only one QB in the top 10 and he's probably not coming out. The top rated player is a DE, and there is a DT, OT and OLB in the top 10 so yeah I think that you can find someone to draft. What makes any of the "draft a QB at all costs" fans think that a QB will be the best available player available? It's ridiculous to say that taking a QB will be the best thing to do with the #1 pick at this point in the season. 1) you don't even know who will be available for the draft (e.g. Luck) 2) the college season isn't even over yet and players haven't gone through the combine (when draft positions always move around) 3) the current starter is probably the Bills best player on offense 4) you don't know if there is a player at another position that will grade out higher than a QB (se point #2 above). If you can reasonably respond to these items, I'm listening. -

The best available front seven defensive player, regardless of position... unless you see a HOF caliber OT on the board, then you take him. -

Open your eyes. Keep the guys who are playing well and replace the guys who aren't. It's not rocket science. Drafting a QB in the first round when you already have one who is playing well is like taking a RB when you already have two solid starters. How about drafting someone at the myriad of positions where the Bills are obviously weak like OT, OLB, DE.
