  1. Honestly, saying that is just a weak excuse. In a game where the Bills have shut down the opponents running game and are putting heavy pressure on the QB, the Bills defensive secondary gets roasted and the following week there are articles about how well the DBs played??? Ridiculous. How about a little accountability.
  2. So Gilmore gave up 0 yards according to PFF. Robey was great, just unlucky according to Joe B. Byrd is the best FS in the NFL. McKelvin is having the best season of his career. Williams has saved his career at safety. Who is responsible for 322 yards and 5 TDs when the DL was terrorizing the QB and had completely stopped the running game?
  3. Wouldn't really fit the Bills scheme anyway.
  4. I really question all this stuff. All I hear is how Gilmore is a shutdown corner, McKelvin is paying great, Robey is an underrated steal, Bryd is one of the best FS safeties in the game and Williams has found a home at strong safety. Yet the Bills secondary just gave up 332 yards passing and 5 TD in the last game and is ranked 24th in pass defense in the NFL. And it's not because of the pass rush because the Bills got a lot of pressure on Brees and have been getting a lot of pressure on opposing QBs in general. So what gives? Just a massive run of bad luck? I think some of these players are being vastly overrated and Gilmore is at the top of the list.
  5. Why would they blitz more when you were getting tons of pressure with what they were doing already? Pressure on Brees was not the problem. Coverage downfield was, again, the main issue.
  6. I agree with both of these points 100%. The people who didn't like Greer pointed to his measurables, but you could see something was up with Greer because he kept making plays in camp and Losman kept making excuses about it.
  7. It's a team game. Trying to separate the offense and defense as if the play of one doesn't affect the other is silly. Ultimately, the only stat that matters is record. As Chan said, the other stats are for losers.
  8. That may have been the worst game ever played.
  9. How bad must Burton have looked if he can't beat Justin Rogers out?
  10. I don't agree with your assessment. Check out Joe Buscaglia's in depth review of Dareus's play in his "Upon Further Review" series. He is the 3rd highest rated player on the entire team. He is doing a very good job for an interior DT in the pass rush department and a decent job against the run given his size. They play him a lot at the 3 technique like Kyle Williams to maximize his effectiveness but he is simply not suited to play 1 or 0. Neither he nor Williams are guys that can handle double team on a regular basis. The Bills really need a massive 2 down DT/NT if they're going to become a dominant run defense.
  11. Just Win Baby. The rest is irrelevant.
  12. The general rule of thumb is that linemen are told to fall on the ball while DBs and LBs are told to pick it up and run if they can. So Williams probably did it right, but he was SO wide open that it was sad that he didn't take it to the house.
  13. He was brought in to play 3-4 DE. Now he is playing NT. How about they draft a real NT and move him to DE where he belongs. A front 3 of Dareus - {Massive NT} - K Williams would be pretty hard to run against I think.
  14. Honestly, if the Bills beat New Orleans on the road, and undefeated Kansas City team, Pittsburgh on the road and a Jet team that has owned them over the past few years then the coach would be lynched if he replaced his starting QB. Unfortunately, this is not going to happen because Lewis is not that good. The Bills will be doing incredibly well to go .500 over the next 4 games and hand the reigns back over to EJ so that he can continue his development.
  15. A lot better than any other strategy the Bills have employed since.
  16. This is a great thread.
  17. NFL will have institute a testing program to confirm said player's "gayness".
  18. Wait, didn't you just laud Marv for playing the percentages and kicking it at the goal line? Turns out that this wasn't really the percentage play. You can say that your "gut" says to kick a field goal because of momentum or whatever but the percentage play is actually to go for it. That is demonstrable statistically.
  19. What part do you think the fact that Fred Jackson out performed Lynch game in and game out played? Lynch wasn't exactly setting the world on fire here. The fact that he was a great RB while in Buffalo is the revisionist history, IMO.
  20. I'm not sure that this is true. I don't think that he's actually rated that highly by most football observers. Many Bills fans may think that he's underrated but generally I think that he's viewed as a solid OLB but not a star.
  21. Perhaps a scientific statistical analysis will sway you instead of a good book. Consider this study of the situation: http://fifthdown.blo...go-for-it/?_r=0 To me 4th and goal at the one early in a close game is basically a no brainer go for it situation most of the time, as this analysis illustrates.
  22. It had to be said.
  23. The officiating has generally been fair in the Bills games. Nathaniel Hacket has been doing a pretty good job calling plays to establish a run first identity and protect young QBs while still scoring a fair number of points.
  24. I can tell just by watching that the Bills run defense is better than it was last year and that's a credit to Pettine. I don't think it's a problem per se, but it isn't really a strength either. I would characterize it as decent and good enough to win with. If the Bills want to take it up a notch and have an elite run defense then they are going to need a space eating NT/DT. Neither Williams nor Dareus qualifies as they are both penetrating types, IMO. In this respect I would say that it's not just Williams, but the Williams-Dareus combination that limits how good the run defense can be. Of course the pass rush should benefit from this combination.
