  1. Discipline on this team is not what you'd call ideal.
  2. Except that comparing the first two seasons of Bill Walsh without Montana as the starter with Belichick's seven seasons without Brady is not valid. Seven seasons is a career in the NFL and he has had 5 losing seasons out of 7 including his first 6 in a row before Brady came on as the starter. Maybe if Walsh had 5 or 6 losing seasons before stumbling upon Montana it would be more applicable but that was not the case. That was the point I was trying to make.
  3. Are you talking about the first two seasons after he took over a 2-14 team? Cherry picking like that really makes your argument look weak. Do you think Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, Keena Turner, Eric Wright, Jack Reynolds or the other half dozen starters they added had any impact? Or was Montana the only difference between 2-14 and 13-3?
  4. I think a similar and possibly better way would be to say that you can challenge as long as you have timeouts left to take in case they rule against you, and as now, you aren't charged a timeout if you're right and you can't challenge if you don't have any TOs left.
  5. Agree. Would put some balance back into the game by giving dbs a chance. Makes sense to me.
  6. Illegal motion/false start by offense. Defense can jump around, stand, sit, whatever and that's fine. OL flinches and it's a penalty? Offensive players should be able to move freely as long as they aren't moving towards the LOS or simulating the start of a play. That includes having more than one man moving at one time.
  7. Exactly. This trial was never about the specific crime. It was a referendum on "the system".
  8. Plus, the Bills aren't going anywhere until Rex leaves anyway.😜
  9. Once again, your examples aren't as strong as you seem to believe. The point your are trying to make is a myth. Name one coach who took over a team, led them to progressively worse records in his first two years than the season before he got there and then turned them around. Just one.
  10. This is just not true. As I mentioned in a previous post, I can't even think of a single example of a coach in the last 30 years whose team wasn't clearly on the upswing after his second season but subsequently turned that situation into a winner. Even your examples show the opposite of what you want. Vince Lombardi never had a losing season in his career. GB was 1-10 the year before he took over. His first season they were 7-5 and they only got better from there. Seahawks were 5-11 before Carrol got there. The next season was 7-9 and by season three they were in the playoffs. They haven't had a losing season since. Belickick made in work in NE with Brady, but he had 4 losing seasons out of 5 in Cleveland and when he left there was no sign that a turnaround was in the cards. If Rex comes in to a 9-7 team and leads them to worse records in his first two seasons, then the chances of him turning it around in Buffalo are historically non-existent.
  11. Got to be Jim Kelly. Was the face of the franchise and turned everything around when he came to Buffalo, both on the field and psychologically. I was at the first game he started and even though they lost you could tell that the worm had turned when he got into a fight with a DL who had him pinned to the ground ("giving him the business")... the Bills weren't going to take it anymore. And his personal struggles make him more human and easier for a hard luck town to identify with. When he told the press that Hunter "was a Kelly"- part of their family and a fighter- it brought tears to my eyes.
  12. But in his second season they were 11-5 and on their way. He never had a non-winning season again. There is an occasional (although very infrequent) drop in season one as transitions take place, but by year two there is an obvious upswing with teams that have strong coaching.
  13. So everyone basically: 1 QB, 3 Pass Rushers, 3 or 4 Pass stoppers, 3 or 4 Pass Protectors... So you are paying top dollar to 10 to 12 of 24 starters? Not possible with the salary cap. Maybe 2 or 3 guys on offense and 2 or 3 on defense. That's it.
  14. I'm trying to think of an NFL coach in the last 20 or 30 years who started his tenure somewhere with a worse record in his first two seasons than the one before he got there and then turned it around. I can't think of one right now. So, I'd say that if Rex doesn't at least make 9-7 or 10-6 ideally, then the odds of his time in Buffalo turning out well are long and he probably should go.
  15. I would say that one's opinion of this is an ink blot test of your view of the police. If you think that the police are a nuisance at best and racial profiling, harassers at worst then you probably see this as another opportunity for them to shaft you. If you see the police as helping to maintain a calm, safe and family oriented environment then you are probably OK with them walking through your lot.
  16. It will all work itself out. If he can stay healthy and produce during the preseason he will make the team. If not he will be cut. My only real worry is that he makes the team and then gets hurt taking a knee or something las last season.
  17. I'm concerned about the front seven. Mario is replaced by Manny Lawson (and then maybe a rookie for the second half of the season). Bradham is replaced by a rookie. Kyle Williams is a year older and is coming off a major injury. Plus, Dareus still appears to be the NT, which is not his natural position. I think that there are issues up front which will need to be overcome.
  18. Probably all true. But don't confuse activity with achievement. The defense lost talent from last season, so he'll need to make that up and more to show improvement. We'll see how it all looks when the season starts.
  19. So much for those Cavaliers - Bills comparisons.
  20. I agree with this. Stay classy Buffalo. Buffalo doesn't lose just because Cleveland has won. I am a little jealous though...
  21. The Bills should never have fired Dick Jauron?
  22. +1It's funny to hear those kinds of comments on TBD, where you can't have a calm and rational conversation about anything.
  23. 1) Red Auerbach 2) Bear Bryant 3) Dick Vermeil.
