  1. I have two thoughts when I see this: 1) It just shows you how desperate the Bills are for OL talent that they keep this guy on. He missed a lot of last season. It's still a serious question mark as to whether he can come back and be reliable to play on a regular basis, and now he will be suspended for four games to boot. I'm afraid that the Bills will be lucky to get much use out of him this season. 2) Saying that he used marijuana for pain control sounds very disingenuous. Everyone knows that it's a banned substance so there's no way that his doctor would have prescribed or recommended it. He should know better too. Plus, I'm sure that there are other options available that are not on the banned list.
  2. They are probably the worst team in the AFCE.
  3. Sorry for pissing on your enthusiasm. Maybe you should slam Chris Brown too. How dare he report new like this! This guy is the next Mike Alstott.
  4. Has be passed his physical yet?
  5. So much for all the theorems about how to use him!!! How could he possibly fail his physical? Was he injured on the plane trip from Tampa to Buffalo?
  6. Let me express one concern regarding this back to the 80s football that we are discussing: Salary Cap. It is generally accepted that it takes more good players to run the football consistently than to pass it. You need a good OL, good TE, good QB and at least one good WR to keep teams honest and of course a of very good RB. In the NFL where defensive players have great range, you pretty much need to successfully block 8 or 9 guys on all running plays for them to work so they are hard- especially out of the tight formations that you are talking about. So how can you possible keep a team with enough good players to make this kind of football work in the salary cap era? You still need a strong defense, right?
  7. Time to add safety to the draft needs list.
  8. Rex's scheme is overrated. He's always had very good defensive players everywhere he's been. That's been the biggest factor in his success. This idea that he can work alchemy and make a top defense from average players is untrue.
  9. Genius! Probably getting the download on Rex's playbook as we speak.
  10. Does he have the leg? I don't think so.
  11. I think everyone needs to lower their expectations a little. This guy was cut from a team that kept 5 TEs on the roster. So 5 guys better than him, in their opinion. At best, he's a project.
  12. I posted this before, but the front 7 that will start next week will be a rookie LDE (Washington), a career backup NT (Bryant), a 33 year old RDE coming off a major injury who hasn't played at all in preseason (K Williams), a career backup LOLB (Alexander), two average ILBs (the Browns) and 1 very good ROLB. That's 1 very good player, 1 unknown, 2 average players, 1 rookie and 2 career backups. That's average at best. In fact, you could argue below average.
  13. Problem with offense = depth. TE, OL, QB, WR. Everywhere but RB really. Problem with defense = starters.
  14. Offense improves slightly, defense takes a slight step backwards. Same overall result.
  15. All pro QBs were excellent college players. However, Brady was not exceptional at all in relation to that group. He was heavily criticized at Michigan for not being able to live up to the legacy of Brian Griese and his national championship. He was recognized for having better skills (better arm, better accuracy, etc.) but none of Griese's charisma or leadership skills. I remember one writer terming Brady's skills as "fools gold" because they would never lead Michigan to a championship. He wrote that Griese won the national championship with his "cajones" not his arm and that Brady didn't have any.
  16. I haven't seen them, but if it's a commercial then that's what they're paying for.
  17. I have to say that I've been very impressed with Rex's demeanor this pre-season and especially during the press conferences. He's more humble and direct, like a guy on a mission to prove everyone wrong and who wants his performance to do the talking for him. I think that attitude, if he can maintain it during the regular season, will help the team immensely to stay focused. I give him a lot of credit for this because I don't think it's in his nature to be that way.
  18. Depth? I'm worried about the starters on defense. Forget depth. Take a look at the projected starting front seven against Baltimore: DL: Rookie LDE (Washington), Career backup NT (Bryant) and 33 year old RDE coming off major knee injury that hasn't played in preseason (K Williams). LB: a career backup LOLB (Alexander), two average NFL starters at ILB (the Browns), and one solid championship caliber player at ROLB (Hughes) So one proven top player and a bunch of backups and question marks out of 7.
  19. If he's a gem, then he needs a lot of finishing. He's got to get a lot stronger for starters.
  20. I missed Walker. I had assumed that he had made the team. I thought he had a very strong preseason and there was a definite need without Dareus. It's another head scratcher for sure.
