I agree. A lot of the luster/mystery of the NFL is gone due to the Patriots. People scoff at this, but the fact is there is a very shady pattern of cheating and unsavory methods there too. It does exist and to many it brings the results into question. If the Bills were in any other Division, seasons would be much more fun and interesting later into the year. The fact that they have little to no margin for error every season stinks. One slip up and no chance to catch the Patriots by the end of October. Then you have to look at the Wild Card, which is 2 spots between 12 teams.... as opposed to 1 in 4, which most teams have to contend with.... in a more evenly matched Division with a team who doesn't systematically cheat. This has been going on for an eternity too. The Bills "glory years" seemed to be so long, but in reality it lasted 8 years (88-95) That includes a non playoff season and 2 Wild Cards. This is already year 16. They only missed 1st place 2 times and finished in 2nd place... and one of those seasons was 11-5, and the other 9-7. It is bad sauce as a fan of a team in the AFC East and I find myself tuning out earlier and earlier every season. I have said as much in the past, but I am pretty 'bored' with the NFL's alignment regardless. They have had the same format for 15 years now which is an eternity for any sport. I am really sick of not only the Patriots, but I am sick of the Jets and Dolphins as well. I am sick of 8 4-team Divisions where it is not equitable for playoff qualification.

Since 2013, this team is 36-19. How?

if the Bills would have hired Andy Reid and allowed him to operate without all the baggage within this organization, that really could have been the Bills. The Bills chose the disfunction of No Stone Unturned/Whaley/Marrone/EJ/etc.... The Bills went from 6-10 to 6-10. The Chiefs went from 2-14 to 11-5 -

I agree with this... except both the Miami and Jets games are coin flips and they should lose 1. -
bills organization is a joke

The handling of the RB position has had no effect on this team. Rooting for Karlos, but he isnt NFL ready right now or earlier. Teams have been desperate for RBs and he barely gets a look. It would have been nice if he took his 2015, put in the work and came back even better mentally and physically. He could have been a force. If im down on the fo for anything that acute, it is having known injuries to their S and top WR... and kind of ignoring the depth there. -
Character and Injury Arbitrage
May Day 10 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they certainly do this. To a point, i think it is a good strategy. With Incognito, IMO that whole thing was inflated B.S. anyway. I dont think it is a good move to 'count on' those players and invest a lot in them in the way of valuable picks or committed bonus/cap dollars. Low risk/high reward type of dealies. -
Dont get mad... I know people will... but I'm looking at the schedules and teams and the Bills might finish last in the AFC East. It will come down to that last game of the season. Gotta love it

Im not too excited. I dont hate the move, but not too hopeful harvin will change anything abd stay healthy

the solution is simple, and it is something that has been missing here since, Donahoe at the very latest, and probably team Butler. They need someone from the outside to mold the football program into one that resembles a winning NFL program in year 2017. The whole group-think of Wilson's executives, a green owner and his wife, Whaley, and the Ryan twins is not going to do it. Nor will it work when the same "management" team fires the GM or Coach, outsources the blame with that individual, hires someone new, and continually make the same errors. I have been having this same "discussion" for about 10 years now. I thought for sure new ownership would bring in modern times and we can move on from Wilson's organizational model. He kept the same model to my horror. Things have not improved. I'm so tired. So cold. Still no meaningful December games. It wont happen though. Nothing will change this season, nor will it change next season aside from a complete humiliating collapse.... something this team miraculously never suffers in its purgatory. Eventually a 'middle manager' will be changed out and blamed, and we will hear calls that this is now "Year One", "Continuity", "past seasons don't matter" and the like.

I think he still has great moments. I thought it got really bad at the tail end of arties time. It became the artie show and i really dont think he is all that funny or entertaining... especially in the state he was in. Then when artie left the show was bad, it was like they didnt know how to fill the content themselves.

I celebrated the win vs a banged up 3rd string qb. Injuries are part of the nfl season. Everyone experiences them. Depth and coaching are supposed to mitigate that.

Jeeze How unlucky are we to miss out on Prescott

Dallas is suddenly a juggernaut. They stunk last year. The stinky bills beat them up -
Tank the season/ It already is.

Whaley should be embarrassed today

2 known injuries at WR and S. Nothing done to reinforce those positions. Both positions killing the season -
Honestly, I have been saying it for many years, and still believe it is true. This football program is not efficient or coherent. The Wilson "model" kept the big decisions with upper management (Wilson, Littman, Overdorf, Brandon) and winning was not a top priority. Even if winning was a priority, good luck with those guys. Pegula kept the same model and people in place, minus Littman who bailed to work with the Wilson charities/legacy. I believe we have a GM who basically holds a position of lead scout... who is pretty good at identifying defensive talent (along with Monos to some degree). Other than that, nothing should be salvageable. Too many entrenched people at OBD who have had a seat at the Adult table for too many years. I don't think it will happen... but if it were my team, I would start at the very top of my organization and hire the best football-oriented executive money can buy to build the football program from the top-down. Not sure who that can be, but if I were the owner, I would be tirelessly researching and meeting with people all over the NFL trying to identify someone. What I think will happen.... The status quo will be extended to 2017. Next year will be the same thing. Either Whaley or Rex will get the axe. Whoever is fired will receive all the baggage and blame for the past few years of failure. Whoever is "retained" will be reset to "year 1" of the "continuity cycle", and therefore somehow be entrusted with 3 more seasons, while Wilson.... I mean Pegula and Brandon remain blameless What I hope will happen as a realistic scenario (outside of them just becoming a good team): Whaley and Rex are retained as long as possible, and after next season of after 2018, they clean the whole thing out and have a top-down rebirth.

Nothing is going to change. Why would it? The team is right there on the verge of maybe threatening for a wild card spot some year

I'm more upset about them sleeping on Derek Carr. -
Im not digging 4 of the next 5 games and their chances of winning against actual, real NFL teams. @Seattle, @Cincy, @Oakland, Pittsburgh.... They go into their last 3 games 5-8. No "In the Hunt" graphic this year.

That entire article was Howard just making a threat to a current employee (in a shtick I got sick of years ago).... and Artie Lange, probably from mental facility, rambled on about how awesome he is and how he would never go back, and how horrible the stern show is... then the side story of some executive who has been running things for a couple years.... strange. Yeah, that whole Benjy Bronck late thing was so old like 5 years ago when I stopped listening. I couldnt stand when they had that dude taking air time.

Hopefully, if this is it, PS&E has a role to offer him in the media or with the club. Seems like a great guy who quite literally sacrificed his health for the team. -
With Football it is an even more damaging effect. Most smart teams have realized that they can/should allow most talent walk when its time to get paid, while keeping the young players on ELCs or 2nd contracts stocked. Then the career-span for players has gotten much shorter too with how 'violent' the game is (everyone is bigger and faster than ever)... as well as increased awareness about head injuries. Players are figuring out that they can get money, be smart, and retire early. Plus, the previously mentioned "its a young league" factor.
-
You still get that effect though. Say, in an extreme circumstance, you are in the crowd at an MLB game in the playoffs (where the crowd is excitable). In a tie game, your guy on third breaks to the plate to steal home, bringing the crowd out to their feet and its a very close play, looks iffy, but the umpire calls him safe dramatically/enthusiastically. In the old days, you can just go nuts and have the run chalked up officially that moment. Now there is a degree of trepidation that stifles the enthusiasm. Everyone watches the opposing manager, cranes their neck at the scoreboard waiting for a replay. Then the "challenge" happens. Even if it takes 30 seconds, the moment has been buffered. Then if the call is confirmed, there is an additional, kind of forced, much less primal celebration. I think sports is much more exciting when the call on the field at the moment is what it is and everyone can react and move on with their lives. Sometimes mistakes happen, and that becomes part of the story/legend. Now they expanded it in hockey with these horrible offsides challenges (that can only serve to take goals off the board), and challenges for goalie interference (a very subjective call)
