  1. yeah. Having a lot of garbage primetime games, trying to cater to past performance and big markets has blown up in their face.... Especially with some good 2015 teams taking a nose-dive or just not looking inspiring this year... Then you have the NFL basically force-feeding one game at a time on people depending on region... which most of the time is not the best game, while keeping the Sunday Ticket at a laughable price point and exclusive on Direct TV. Meanwhile, people are moving as a mass toward cutting the cord. Im sure folks are streaming whatever game they want to watch... instead of the same team(s) every week. The NFL needs to figure out the next step in this revolution and get ahead of the curve. The other 3 major sports are actually ahead of the NFL at this point with their streaming apps and availability.
  2. I got excited during those starts and I do not regret it at all. Of course everyone is still guarded to some degree.... but as a fan of this team, you have to take the good times while you can. It is OK to get excited, look at playoff scenarios, root against other teams, soak in positive press. We dont get many opportunities to do that. They win this week, the New England game will be hyped nation-wide. Most common fans will root for Buffalo. Would be a shot heard around the world if they win. If they lose.... well, its been a fun month or so. I actually think that Seattle MNF game is very winnable for the Bills, as is the Cincinnati game now, as well as Pittsburgh. The schedule doesnt look as daunting and the team is getting healthier, not the other way.
  3. I dont want to see any sports team ever move (unless its an MLB team to Buffalo). I experienced the very real possibility with the Sabres in the early '00s.... and for years, I had to try to come to terms with what seemed like an inevitability of the Bills relocating. It sucks. I don't wish that on anyone.
  4. Well, the thought was that he was the grease-man for MLSE.... who may be able to afford it, but they can't really compete with the mega-wealthy. As far as I know, MLSE and Tanenbaum have a few Billion, but it is in sports holdings and not cash-ready. Then, the stadium issue. You would think if the Titans were at a point where their lease was escape-able and there was a wink-wink desire of the owners to be willing to allow them to move... there would be a degree of competition which pretty much eliminates MLSE
  5. Wow. Read the write up http://www.footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-ratings/2016/week-6-dvoa-ratings
  6. The bottom-line is, the Bills are going to have to win some big-boy games in order to become a playoff team this year. Along with "cleaning up the trash", they are going to need to win at least 2 of the Pats, Seahawks, Bengals, Raiders, Steelers. The Bengals looking so-so is encouraging. If they lose all 5 of those games, this season is the same-old, same-old
  7. no rumors, just fell that way. I don't think Palmer had a say as he was traded (for a 6th?) It just always (from like mid-season on) seemed like the Bills flew the flag that "this year we are taking a QB". For awhile, Geno had everyone salivating, especially early that year when WV was on fire. Then there was Barkley and Glennon who were considered with Landry on the Fringe. EJ was kind of an out-of nowhere guy, and a lot of the pundits didnt seem to have him anywhere near the 1st round. Turns out they are all terrible In hindsight, it would have been best to keep Fitzpatrick as a bridge-guy and try to keep trying to find QBs. The QB position in the aftermath was a minor-league stable of fail with Kolb, EJ, Jackson, Thad, and Tuel. We got kind of lucky with Taylor and they did the right thing IMO grabbing Cardale as a project. Taylor is doing a good job of avoiding hits... but IMO the mobile QB will eventually be taken out with injury. I would like for them to put a lot of resources into scouting a pocket/traditional QB. Try to find a 'bridge' QB (even if its Taylor with that contract)
  8. I have said it before, but Carson Palmer was available that offseason for a price of peanuts and cracker jacks.
  9. Let's wait and see. I am very excited about this team, and encouraged on a few fronts. However, while I do subscribe to a 'win is a win' mentality... there are qualifiers for each one of these wins so far. If this team gets to 5-2 next week, again we will be at a fever pitch and get to hear Dareus says "aint nobody likes the Patriots" again... it'll be exciting.... but will Brady and co. once again slap the Bills to the ground? If not.... look out. They'll be the sweethearts of the NFL... But if they do again get shut down by the Pats, start to struggle in the tough portion of the schedule, the Bills will largely still be considered in Neutral. Say they go 8-8, we are talking about a 4-6 or 3-6 finish. That will be disappointing. I have been a big "consultant" guy, still am. But even if this team gets to 8-8, I'm fine with keeping everything intact for another season.
  10. They really need to win at least 10, having 3 NFL wins. 6-4 the rest of the way. I can find 6 wins, but it will require winning a few tough games, and also clean up against lesser teams
  11. We'll see where the perception of this team comes in. Win a few games, they are great. They may get to 5-2.... the hype will reach a fever pitch. Extensions to jauron and fitz. Im still waiting to see what happens when the bullets fly in the middle part of that schedule starting with new england. They win a few games in there and this team is different than the past
  12. Who wouldve thought the cards and the Panthers would struggle this much
  13. Wow, awesome
  14. Let's pump the brakes here... I loved the wins, Ill love the win Sunday and hopefully against Miami... a lot to like and I'm generally excited... but let's see if this team can sustain itself and perform against playoff caliber teams with good QBs. I remember not liking Marrone and after the Green Bay, some people here were telling me he was a COTY candidate... then they fell on their face in Oakland.... and everyone else turned on him as he left and it is wildly accepted gospel that he is/was a clown. I like how the team has played its way back into the season. Some bright spots and players out of nowhere (to us) who are performing. The team is going to have to win some games against good teams, and possibly on the road. Something this franchise hasn't been able to do under Whaley or anyone else for the last 16+ years. IF they get over that hump this season and become a playoff team. Whaley will get a lot of love from the NFL media.... and I will heap a lot of praise on him. If they fall on their face again and we are in the same spin cycle as usual... then what are we doing?
  15. So far: Vikings - 5-0 Broncos - 4-1 Bills - 3-2 Browns - Browns
  16. A win is a win. No style points.... especially in the road and on the opposite coast
  17. No. He actually pandered to the city of "darien lake" the whole time.
  18. Why is he even there? If im the qb at ol miss, im certainly not attending st joes football games on a friday night
  19. If I had to pick one of each: Best: Pearl Jam in Buffalo in 2003 Worst: Motley Crue and Kiss at Darien Lake a few years ago. Just not my thing. Overly choreographed and constant, hollow pandering
  20. I wanted him too... but I'm just a fan and wasn't privy to all the data on everyone. Justin Blackmon was also a cant-miss top of the draft WR prospect too who everyone thought would be great. IMO, unless you are going for and need a sure-fire QB prospect, always trade down. Any other position never seems like it is worth it most times, compared to having more assets.
  21. Or they could have traded a 6th rounder for Carson Palmer like the Cardinals did that spring... or even kept Fitz. Regardless though, my main point was, they traded down and it had large benefits. If they did the same in the Watkins draft it could have potentially set this team up for years
  22. I like his drafting for the most part. But if he is that good, and the scouting staff is bolstered with Pegula bucks... it would be better if he wasnt spending multiple picks on Watkins, Ragland, and Bryce Brown. Would rather he trade down and get more good players. One example is 2013 (a draft I put on Whaley for good and bad, its ludicrous to think he was bound and gagged while Nix forced picks on him). Traded down, still had a shot at a QB (wrong move)... but also was able to get Kiko Alonso, Marquis Goodwin, and Chris Gragg with the windfall... and also was able to pick Robert Woods, Meeks, and Duke Williams.... (Dustin Hopkins too who is good but Carpenter was un-cuttable) If Whaley has a knack for identifying talent, that is more the reason to stack draft picks. Imagine the assets they would have had if they had traded down from #9 in 2014 instead of up for Watkins. Still could have gotten Derek Carr or Kelvin Benjamin no matter how far they traded down, plus had a pile of picks, as well as hanging on to their 2015 1st and 4th... plus a whole lot more from the trade.
  23. the league brings it on themselves with this one. Randomly test for Marijuana on game days and make sure guys aren't playing stoned. Other than that, out of sight, out of mind. Don't need the bad press, need players like Dareus, Bell, Gordon, etc playing more. The majority of Americans would applaud the move
  24. This can be debated. I think the better method IMO is trading down for max value and quantity. This standpoint is strengthened by the injuries to Ragland, Lawson, and Watkins. Lots of players get hurt in the NFL. Depth is critical. The gap between player skills is not all that great. What is between the ears is increasing in importance. It is all about who does the work for conditioning and preparation... and who has a coaching staff that best instills and demands that culture. You let players walk to save your cap and you have a good enough scouting staff and can sift through and find the right players to keep the engine running.
  25. Selective examples. Its a case of everything is perfect after a win.... similar to everything sucks the sky is falling after a loss. Its going to take a little bit to figure out how the bills are. They have a tough but winnable game in a very pivotal week 5... then need to take care of business vs san fran and miami. Then they have a stretch with top tier teams, lets see if things have changed and this season is new and improved... or if its the chef boy r dee that mom bought a 20 year supply of from sams club
