  1. A good GM wont even want to work here with the current structure. If Brandon is involved in a process, they would 'settle' on a GM who agrees to the groupthink. IMO they will keep Whaley and heap everything on Rex as their next scapegoat and act like he was some sort of foreign body who infected their team against everyone's will (as they do with all their scapegoats). They will look for a new coach and the team will be careful to make Whaley appear to be at the forefront of the search (with Brandon and Pegula in the background). Its predictable
  2. He is getting it done and is a good stopgap, while they pile up and assess QB prospects. They also caught on to the rest of the NFL that a "mobile QB" is out of style.
  3. There is an ongoing feud between PSE and TBN... but it seems to have settled a lot in the past year or so. Pegula hit the scene and wanted TBN to write good things about Tim Connolly and TBN laughed at him and was overly negative about the status quo (and correct). IMO The Sabres stonewalled TBN quite a bit and it was easy to observe any news about the Sabres were reported by out of area sources (WGR was involved in this as well). Since WGR has become a partner of the Bills, they have been given more access it seems, but TBN still seems a little on the outside looking in. They gave Pegula his proper due when buying the Bills though and have been positive of the Sabres' prospects for the most part. With that said, I agree with Bucky on this. It isnt rocket science to win in the NFL. Philly is serious about doing it. Buffalo isnt.
  4. I would say no. If anything, I would say they haven't meddled enough.
  5. So do we just go with the status quo if this season crashes and burns? Fire the head coach... who chooses a new one? Do we trust Pegula/Brandon/Whaley who brought Rex? Brandon/Whaley who brought Marrone? I like Whaley for the most part... but to me, it doesn't seem like he runs a tight ship. Always seems pretty laid back and nonchalant. Not necessarily a bad thing, but for a position like that, I would prefer someone a little higher strung. He is very good at finding defensive players (although the defense is burning down). He has yet to find any real offensive players to the point that there are major depth issues across the board, and it doesn't look to get much better Even if they keep Whaley and/or Rex, there is going to be an ultimatum, real or implied, which will cause people to act in a way that is not the best for the Bills' future. That is what brought about the Watkins trade and I am sure they would possibly reach in the 2017 draft and offseason. Maybe double down and keep Tyrod around when it wouldnt be great for the future. IMO the best thing they can do is bring in someone from the outside with no connections and empower them to build from the top down. The sooner they do it, the better. It IS going to happen. It is whether we want to wait a few more years of this to get started or not
  6. The Bills were an "up and coming" team who just won 9 games and added a lot of "talent". They are going backwards. I am all for continuity, but the house is rotted and the foundation is cracked. It doesnt mean we need to live there hoping it magically gets better. I do not want to see Rex fired and swapped with a new coach. I would like to see more structural fixes. Maybe they turn it around and look good getting close to .500. Then I could see giving it another shot. As of now though it is a tire fire.
  7. OK, but they were trending down and looked to hit bottom under Rex Ryan. One year they hit 10 wins, something that seems like an impossible dream here. So if Rex Ryan was kept in New York, continuity would have created additional wins last year and they would have made the playoffs at 11, 12, or 13 wins? Kubiak won the Superbowl in his 1st year
  8. He would have to be in a high role like President or at least President of the Football-Wing of the team. Free to build and change everything to his liking. That would rock the boat of the old/current guard here too much and I dont see the Bills offering that.
  9. What about the Jets? Bowles won 10 games last year emerging from Ryan's smoldering mess. They came in last week and had their way with the Bills in nearly every facet. Also came an inch from beating a very good Bengal team (who dissected the Bills last year).
  10. IMO, interview Caserio, make him very, very well paid, and most importantly, give him the keys to the car, promising nearly limitless resources to building scouting, conditioning, A/V, etc.
  11. I like Frank Reich. wouldnt want him to hurt his career so, no
  12. If they battle back to 7 or 8 wins I can see them keep the staff intact for sure. However, the current trajectory falls short of that. Those were 2 of their 'easier' games, and the Jets completely kicked their teeth in. If the team continues on this path, I wouldn't be surprised to hear some drama between players, players/coaches, Whaley and Ryans jockeying to avoid blame, etc. It started to percolate last season, and IMO the whole culture here with the Ryan Bros' style and the management structure is a perfect storm for that
  13. There is 'cheating' going on to a point. They know what they can get away with and do. Been going on in all sports forever. Other teams need to get with the times IMO. Overall it is just an organizational commitment to win and gear everything towards winning. A close play and I'm sure there are people who have a job to quickly review the play and relay to Belichick whether or not the call is reversible. Belichick knows a 'chart' and wont challenge when it is silly (like a 4 yard gain on 2nd down). Here, we have Rex Ryan craning his neck looking at the jumbotron while players are lobbying in his ear. I believe they review everything to make sure the odds in every situation are in their favor, and that includes some things that are against the rules. It also includes bending the rules with some clock play and formations (innovation). They have a culture and players who put in the work. Talent from one team to the next isn't that different. It is all preparation. It also seems like they do not tolerate self-imposed mistakes like taunting penalties and celebrations. Its a tight ship too. The fact that a player punched Revis out in a practice and nobody hears a peep for almost 2 years is very impressive. Here, Rappaport would be tweeting about it before Revis' head hit the ground. I desperately want our owner to emulate that
  14. This sums it up pretty well, i agree. I dont think the qb is quite plug and play though. The qb needs to be big and have a decent arm... but more importantly needs to have the drive and work ethic. Jp losman would never work out there.
  15. There seems to be a lot of that, and it has increased dramatically since ralph "stepped aside" on jan 1, 2013. And just because pegula makes a statement that they are cohesive and rex runs the ship doesnt necessarily make it so. That is the narrative the organization wants everyone to think, whether it is actually the case or not. I actually dont care who made the call. Either way its clown shoes.
  16. things looking up for the indians as well
  17. I dont even care. I just want to attend meaningful and exciting football games that go late into the season. Its getting on towards two decades. I know several (many?) Bills fans who have died during this drought.
  18. They kind of went through this with the sabres though. Darcy Regier's biggest flaw is he is a bleeding heart. He loathes trading players and thinks deeply into the human aspect of uprooting individuals and families. It is speculated he quit the Coyotes due to the John Scott treatment (good for him). Now you have Tim Murray, who basically refers to players only by their last name at the draft, trading guys as he sees fit. The Pegulas still have their dignitary/human role. Evander Kane and his parents were floored that his first day in town, the owners met with them... i guess he had more face time with ownership here in one day than years in ATL/WIN. There is another anecdote of a player brought in a couple years ago, and the Pegulas basically loaned his family a Pegula family car to use indefinitely while they got acclimated. You look at the Patriots/Garappolo and it does not look good for the AFC East. We cant just wait for Brady's clock to run out. The best hope is to build an organization to emulate/compete with the Patriots and this would be the way. Their philosophy of personnel, preparation, and over-professionalism is dead-on.
  19. I know you hate the word 'czar', but essentially, its a semantic thing. Caserio can fill that role as well as GM. I would be in full support of his hiring, as long as the organization provided the reins to him in totality and he is basically a Donahoe (TBH that's probably the only way he accepts the position). I would be all for that, especially if he likes and brings in Josh McDaniels.
  20. A path worth considering.... depending on where ownership wants to go this year: Get Bradford or someone like that in. Experience and is good enough. Good 'bridge' QB like Fitz is for the Jets. Can play competitively while you stack up QBs and find/groom the right one. No to Kelly. Doesnt seem to have the goods... actually reminds me of Fitz. Is a good gunslinger who seems prone to major catastrophe when games and moments are big. In fact, if I am high in this draft and Im not sold on one of the QBs, I trade down for quantity.
  21. I know, but whenever I criticize his role in the current and past state of this football 'organization' I am stonewalled with people calling him a "marketing guy", and directed by articles and quotes that say he has nothing to do with the football team whatsoever.... but instead I consistently see reminders that he is and has been right there with his hand in the perpetual failure
  22. "Sal Capaccio’s series of tweets and subsequent article suggested the Roman firing was a long-time coming. And while Capaccio confirmed Rex was indeed not in the room with the Pegulas during their meetings with players, the owners conversational sessions with players has been commonplace for a while now. Also Rex, Doug Whaley and Russ Brandon meet with the players on a weekly basis." Why is the "marketing guy" having weekly meetings with the players? Where is whaley through this Greg Roman drama? Maybe the football department can be mended before we can and hire new coaches.
  23. Sal was on WGR and talked himself into a few holes trying to spin it. Was pretty funny. Actually got to the point to say that the Bills FO gave Tyrod Taylor the contract as a message to Greg Roman to utilize him better. Haha
  24. Trading down is the best move if they arent sold on a qb. Will get a lot of picks spanning multiple years for that
  25. This was supposed to be their "window" too
