AP John Wawrow interview with Terry Pegula

They are close... but if they do take a step back, it will be the players adjusting to scheme, the X coach in X years, the coaching staff getting 'their guys'.... then in 2018 it will continue to sputter and we will hear how we have had x coaches in x years and we need to finally realize full continuity. In 2019, the wheels will fall off, it will be obviously going nowhere, fans will be again at the breaking point. Lynn will be fired, as will Whaley. All the current problems get assigned to them. At that point, Brandon and Pegula will promote "the real brains" in player prognosticating: Jim Monos. They will hire some garbage barge coach because the job is undesirable and nobody worth anything wants to put their career on the line for this. In 2020, it will be the players adjusting to scheme, the X coach in X years, the coaching staff getting 'their guys'.... then in 2021 it will continue to sputter and we will hear how we have had x coaches in x years and we need to finally realize full continuity. In 2022, the wheels will fall off, it will be obviously going nowhere, fans will be again at the breaking point. we are talking self-driving air propelled personal vehicles before this thing gets on track -

good for him. With some polish and if he can get control of a few of his speech 'crutches'... he has the goods to become a sports broadcast legend, -
Any interest in NFL Divisional Realignment or Relegation?
May Day 10 replied to Peevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldnt work in the NFL. I am in favor of realignment. I would like for there to be 4 conferences, no divisions. Current one is stale and boring. Sick of the Jets, Dolphins, and Pats taking up nearly 40% of the schedule every season. I think relegation/promotion would be amazing for baseball and the sport would probably grow to mammoth proportions. -

If Whaley has the keys... then I am fine with it. I just don't buy that this is the plan. Especially when he claims he was a bystander as other people made the decision to and acted on firing his head coach. It makes no sense. It is just going to be Lynn anyways... which is an uninspiring choice, which in my opinion will continue the Bills' curve to a bottom feeding aged team with cap issues. If/when Pegula decides to change the course of a 51+ year failed franchise... we will know, and it will be obvious. These half-measures and accountability shell games are a pattern left over from the Wilson ownership and management. -
GM Doug Whaley's end of season press conference

my issue is... the Bills have done this before, multiple times, dating back to Wilson's "General Manager of Football" bit when "hiring" Buddy Nix. They long ago ran out of credibility with this. Whaley's strange answers provided many more questions when he implied that as General Manager, he had no idea or opinion whether or not the head coach would or should be fired. This took place 2 weeks ago. So starting..................................... now, we are letting the General manager make the decisions? -
AP John Wawrow interview with Terry Pegula
May Day 10 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't JW more of a 'reporter', who typically just reports what is seen and told and readers can accept or reject the information? While Sullivan, Gleason, etc are "columnists", who take the information and interpret it in their way and the reader can accept or reject their points of view? They would be obligated to ask tough questions of Pegula (which I would appreciate). I can understand why Pegula wouldn't go to the wolves. I am sure they weren't keeping their fingers crossed. -

Russ Brandon should have been out there as President of the team and to help out Whaley. Ted Black had the backbone to face a similar barrage along-side Darcy Regier. Was he "too busy"? -

When your team's gm spouts off statements that are plain shocking... the firestorm should be expected, and it is coming from much more than tbn. Especially from a particularly poorly performing organization that always invites skepticism as to who is making decisions. It is a witch hunt... but the bills happen to be a witch and keep turning seasons into toads. -

Access to be a pr mouthpiece? They provided nothing substantial, all damage control. They know jw and sal will simply report what they are told at face value -

what 'young talent' do the Bills have that will blossom into a competitive NFL team. From my view, the best pieces are aging fast. Bad contracts with a lot of upcoming FAs. Watkins is probably the best piece and I cant imagine he is happy with the current state of things, and by the time his Entry deal ends, his disdain will probably be at the breaking point.

Hate is way too strong of word. I like the family, appreciate the passion for making buffalo a better place, willingness to provide resources to the bills and sabres. And, most of all, the regional stability of those franchises However, as functional sports owners, for on ice/field product, pegula is a disaster. Sabres, i can see why he might have been willing to stick with ruff and regier. They did have some decent years and respect in the league. The fans and media had known they had run their course though... but it turned out very bad, and moves were made in half measures, early in seasons, after course could have been better corrected with entire offseasons (and a lengthy lockout). Strange drama with lafontaine reflects poorly as they lost another cog of credibility in craig patrick. Now we only have an eccentric gm running the show and it is going very poorly. Ted Black, who was loved and respected by fans was sent packing for russ brandon, who many do not like or trust. The Sabres are still bad and boring. Going to games is a chore. Working on a very nice playoff-less streak of their own that spans pegulas ownership. The longest such streak in Sabres' franchise history. The bills purchase held similar baggage as the sabres... without a glimmer of success. It was a no brainer to thank the old guard and bring in a new operation. The Bills are a 50 year joke other than a sonewhat brief stretch in 88-95. Marrone even put it on a silver platter to clean house when he walked out the door. Polian seemed set to come in. Then something strange happened there. Something about people in the organization 'badmouthing' This is another opportunity for change, but they are sticking with the cast of characters, holding the bills' masterful art of graying the blame as who is responsible for failed coach hires, bad draft picks, etc... promoting lynn is not changing the failed organizational course. At some point, probably after one year of "changing schemes and personnel", year two of "continuity", and year three wheels coming off... lynn and whaley will leave, along with all problems and poor decisions. Brandon and Pegula will 'promote' Monos, and the cycle of making identical mistakes will continue.
