This team can go 8-8 this year...if not better.
billsfreak replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you think they will keep Mitchell around and pay him as much as they are to be a backup? Not being sarcastic, it is a serious question? -

Vote of Confidence in Edwards
billsfreak replied to Gabe Northern's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is so stupid, and over written about on this board. It is a players job to play and a fans job to be a fan. What is he supposed to do? Leave the stadium with a big foam finger on and one of the red and blue rubber fan masks? I don't see Dan Marino walk around with a Chad Henne jersey on? -
Vote of Confidence in Edwards
billsfreak replied to Gabe Northern's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If any of the quarterbacks on the roster have any chance at all of succeeding in the NFL, it is Edwards. True he was terrible last year, but not quite as terrible as the offensive line which didn't exist to block for him. I am one who wished they had drafted one of the top quarterbacks in the draft, but I do think there is still a chance, maybe slim, that Edwards if blocked for and given a few weapons could succeed. I don't think there is any doubt that he has the smarts to play the position, he has been over tentative, which could be at least in part to the stampeded of defenders that were in the Bills' backfield almost every play. Since they failed to replace him, Gailey needs to let him start all 16 games if he is healthy enough to do so, and determine once and for all if he can handle it, although without improving the line, they might never find out. If Ralphie gets involved like he did last year (Jauron wanted to play Edwards-which led to his firing during the season, instead of at the end of it), and pressures the coach into playing musical QBs, and playing Noodle Arm Fitz because he doesn't like Edwards, this team will never improve. Everyone knows what they are getting with Fitz, a barely serviceable backup. Everyone knows what they are getting with Brohm-Not Much, but he probably won't be around anyway with the Bills drafting a project QB, who will be the #3. I like Edwards, think he has potential, but he needs to prove it now and hope that Nix puts some talent around him before he is crippled. -
Demetrius Bell is the heavy favorite to start at left tackle for the Bills again this season. The Bills took project tackle Ed Wang in the fifth round on Saturday, but they continue to be overly confident in Bell. He's coming off a torn ACL and wasn't performing at a high enough level anyway. The Bills are setting themselves up for a disastrous season. Seventh-round pick Kyle Calloway will convert from tackle to guard with the Bills. The Bills did very little to address their need at offensive tackle, which should make incumbent LT Demetrius Bell feel good. However, chances are it doesn't make Trent Edwards feel very good. Coach Chan Gailey "all but confirmed" the Bills won't add another quarterback before training camp. So the Bills have decided to punt the 2010 season? Interesting. Perhaps Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller can run a heavy Wildcat attack because we're gonna be sick if we have to watch Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick checking down for four quarters every week. Gailey will stage an open competition for the starting job, and the ultra-brittle Edwards has to be considered the heavy favorite. We're staying away from all Bills this year. Bills selected Virginia Tech OL Ed Wang with the No. 140 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Bills finally grab an offensive lineman! A former tight end, Wang showed steady development as a left tackle the past two seasons. He has the size, athleticism, and footwork to stay at tackle, but he'll need time to develop

Lets Cheer Marshawn onto a Probowl this season......
billsfreak replied to BillsRUs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
3rd stringers who get 1-2 carries a game don't normally get selected to the Pro Bowl. He has a better shot of being selected to the Toilet Bowl, or more than likely the Prison Bowl. -
The QB with the most job security is Fitzpatrick
billsfreak replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edwards is the heavy favorite to start, so how can he have the most to risk? The only "what if" factor Brohm has is the "What If" he hadn't been a draft bust. It really doesn't matter, without drafting a QB and a quality LT, as was said in Rotoworld, the Bills are "punting away" the 2010 season anyway. -
This team can go 8-8 this year...if not better.
billsfreak replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like your optimism, but it is crossing into dreaming. If this team goes 8-8 or better, that only says the rest of the league already went on strike, and nobody told the Bills they were leaving. You are looking at a team who will win probably 5 games, if they are lucky. You can't say for sure the coaching is an improvement, Jauron had a better NFL resume coming into Buffalo than Gailey does. You don't know the talent is improved, and it has decreased at some positions, notably WR. If we do cut down on the OL injuries, and it would be bizarre to expect that many again, it should be better in that area, but then again, you can't get any worse on the OL than we were last year. Better common sense from professional players (McFumble/Parrish) and we might have won 8 games last year, but we were fortunate to play the Colts in game 16 or they would have blown us out if the needed the game. -
A lot of people are critcizing Nix's draft strategy and justifiably so. With a ton of holes on this team, but 3 that really stand out (QB, LT, NT), he really didn't fill any of them. He drafted Wang from VA Tech, who is a former tight end and nowhere close to be ready, if ever, to start in the NFL. He ignored the QB position. He drafted a DE to try to convert him to NT. The majority of personnel who study this type of stuff, feel that the LT was the most important position on this team to address, and he passed over 4 or 5 possible franchise left tackles. With draft strategies like this, there is little doubt this organization is still declining and not improving, so if he is so inclined to draft a QB next year, he will be able too. Who knows, he might take another running back in the first round next year, so we can have half of a roster featuring 1,000 yard backs, and no line to block or QB to throw the ball. There is no doubt that Spiller can be a game changer, but we needed improvement more at every other position on the team than RB.

Going into the season, continuing to have the worst offensive line in the NFL, there is no telling how many RBs Gailey will keep. They are going to have to carry the load, as even Joe Montana couldn't pass with this line. The more projects you have in camp, the more likely you might find a hidden gem.

If I am not mistaken, they have already ruled that out as a possibility. I think they wanna groom players at every position pretty much and bringing in a nearly 40 year old receiver, isn't going to figure in with this team in a couple years when they might have a slim chance of winning more than 5 or 6 games in a season. On top of that, it seemed like not only the team, but the whole organization was on pins and needles with him around, maybe afraid he was going to blow. I also think that was part of Edwards problem too, from the beginning of the season, even during camp, he felt he had to get the ball to T.O. even if he wasn't open.

I don't agree, this is Ralph's Buffalo Bills and Fitz is making the most of any of the QBs so he is never safe. Although, most teams, if not all, have at least one QB making more than the 4 of ours will combined. I do think he will stick around though, as will Edwards. The odd man out is going to be Brohm with the drafting a QB to be the #3. Maybe Brohm will continue his career as a practice squad player in Buffalo, like he did in Green Bay, right where he probably belongs. -
Nix going to trade for LT?
billsfreak replied to Green Lightning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like maybe he doesn't even know we need one? Are things ever going to change around here? I am not comparaing the players or the injury, but the Spiller pick reminds me of picking McGahee, drafting where we don't need and avoiding gapping holes. -
Three of the worst teams in the NFL have had a great 3 rounds so far, much better with both selecting the best player available as well as filling needs than the Bills have. Looking like the league is going to leave us and the Raiders fighting for the top pick this time next year. Our draft has been one big mystery and head shaker. We came into the draft with 3 huge holes, and have attempted to fill one of them, the NT, with a DE? The other two have been ignored. Any quarterback that had a chance of being a franchise QB is gone now. Not looking good. With this team, we will have to keep handing it off, even if we are down by 4 touchdowns, with no QB and no OL. Hopefully Buddy is watching Holmgren and Pete Carroll to watch how it is supposed to be done.

Round 2, Pick #41: DT Torell Troup - Central Florida
billsfreak replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who? This front office is obviously going to be no different then the past few FOs. So far they have had one of the worst drafts of any team. Shock-NO~ -
I just read the grades for round one from NFLFanhouse.com and they gave the Bills a D+, mainly because all the needs were avoided and we already have Fred Jackson. The only team in the entire first round graded lower than us was the Jaguars.

Running Back Was a Position of Need
billsfreak replied to cmjoyce113's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How can it be a position of need, compared to almost every other position on the roster when we currently have two separate 1,000 yard rushers here? Alot of teams would like to have one on their roster. -
Our Running Back Triumvirate mirrors Dallas
billsfreak replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is real good depth, which is one reason why it makes that pick a little bit of a head scratcher, with so many other huge holes. Lynch won't be here by this time monday probably, and the biggest difference in the two groups is that they have a line to block for them. -
UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos

Tebow is gone. Move up to get Clausen. -
I can see them trading back into the first round, but for a QB or LT.

Why the bills WONT take a QB tonight
billsfreak replied to JimBob2232's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watch them move back into the bottom of the first round to take Tebow or Clausen. -
Alot of people disagree with you. True, unless Bradford was still available, and he won't be, none of the other quarterbacks are worthy of #9. But, if you can leave tonight with the LT of the future and the QB of the future, you can't ask for more than that in your wildest dreams. True, it may be a risk, but any draft pick you choose, no matter the position, no matter they hype, all have the possibility of being a bust, could be a great player or even just a role player for your team, you never know for sure until they lace up the spikes and get a few seasons under their belt.

Why the bills WONT take a QB tonight
billsfreak replied to JimBob2232's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watching NFL Network all day, one of the guys stated that from a reliable source that the Bills said they will not leave tonight without a quarterback, and it won't be with the #9 pick either (that will most likely be a LT if any of the top ones are still available). I took that as they would like to move up to the end of the first round to get Tebow or Clausen, which would probably mean giving up next years #1-which will be one of the top 4 or 5 picks most likely. I wouldn't really mind seeing it, but I will believe it when I see it. There is a real good chance that next year, if a new bargaining agreement is in place, there will be a rookie salary cap, so rookies will come a whole lot cheaper towards the top of the draft. Still, if they really think one of these guys could be the future at QB, it makes sense to get him this year and get a year with him in the system instead of waiting until next year. Like they say, drafting a quarterback in the first round is the biggest risk in the draft but it can also be the biggest reward in the draft too. -
