  1. Levitre stated in a Santa Cruz newspaper report that negotiations with the Bills never took off because his agent had him slotted around one dollar amount and the Bills were at another. So it never got off the ground. I have a hard time finding fault with Buddy here. Yes it creates another hole, exacrbated by Rinehart going to the Chargers for 1 year, but $7.8mm for a Guard? And the guy who played next to him at Center (who most think is better) is a FA after the 2013 season, will want even more than that, especially if Andy had been retained. It is generally thought the cap will rise next year as well, further 'juicing' salary rates for the next FA period. I hope they extend Eric during 2013 to avoid the deadline angst.
  2. You can't pay interior linemen Tackle-money. The Bills are already strained this year because of Fitz. Signing Levitre for $8mm would hamstring us further and what would it get us? Yes, he's a great guy, but as the ink dries we would see the same OL that we had last year and no real improvement by the team - and we'd have tied-up an additional $8mm. We can't do that. Take that $8mm, pay up to $4-5mm for a Guard / SS / WR and that leaves room to to add another player.
  3. Don't be surprised if the Chiefs still draft a QB in round 1 or 2 (probably 2). I thought Cousins would be available to the Bills last year but after drafting RG III, the 'skins drafted Cousins too.
  4. Had he scored it would have been an all-time highlight we'd be seeing all the time. But because he was just short of the goal line we'll never see that play again. He must have run 150-175 yards on that play!
  5. Great player when healthy. His body has betrayed him the last few years. The end of his career is near, though I hope he can play somewhere for another year or two. Buffalo, going young, is no longer the right fit for him. When I saw what his cap hit was going to be this year, I figured his release was inevitable. Best of luck to him - he was always a quiet, classy, friendly guy. He deserves nothing but GOOD things!
  6. While we're at it, let's get rid of bicycles - a lot of people get hurt or killed in bike accidents! Or, let's get get rid of cars because peole get hurt/killed in car accidents! How about we step back, take a breath and impose some simple safety rules so the games can go on. They already have weight limitations so no 10 year old kid, bigger/heavier than 99% of kids his age can play with 10 year-olds, he would need to move up into a different age/weight group. How about, no using the helmet as a weapon - you cannot spear yourself toward an opponent, head first (but if you dive toward an opponent, arms outstretched to make a tackle - this would be OK - just no helmet first). Helmets were designed to protect the head - not allow it to become a punishing weapon.
  7. Look, if the Bills want him, they will sign him (or tag him) before he ever gets a sniff at Free Agency, before he knows who may be interested in him. If the Bills don't want him, nothing will happen, he will simply become a FA when his contract expires (I think it's March 1st or sometime in March that corresponds to the end of the "League year"). That's also when Free Agency starts. Same goes for Byrd. Since Buddy believes in keeping good players, and these guys are good, there's no reason to worry that they won't be re-signed. Neither has said they want to leave town. Contrary to the popular notion that Ralph is cheap, he really isn't, he has always deferred to his football people. Neither player is looking to be the best paid player at his position, so again, there is no sane reason to believe that they won't be re-signed.
  8. Did he really tank training camp that year ? That is so hard to believe. Knox was coach at the time if I recall correctly and they hung on to him until the last cut hoping he'd get it together. If he tanked - I don't know how he could look at himself in the mirror! Basing my suggestions on the promise they had and how actually disappointing they were - these guys just SUCKED!!: Walt Patulski, Maybin, Bill Enyart, Al Cowlings (tho I heard he's a good wheel-man!), Lonnie Johnson, Mike Williams, Perry Tuttle, James Hardy, Boy . . . this is depressing!
  9. Sorry. I like the abuse I get from the guys at GR55!
  10. From afew espn Insider articles (PFF), they discussed FA's In the BUYER BEWARE Category was Cary Williams he gave up 45 first downs in reg/post season - the 2nd highest of all cornerbacks. He was a far cry from a shutdown corner. He was the guy opponents went after to keep the chains moving. Others in the BUYER BEWARE Category: (Defense) LaRon Landry (S), Osi Umenyiora (DE), Connor Barwin(LB), Sean Smith (CB), Rey Maualuga(LB); (Offense) Dustin Keller (TE), Jake Long (T), Reggie Bush (RB), Donnie Avery (WR). Top 10 Under the Radar FA's Defense: William Hayes (DE Rams), Greg Toler (CB Cards), Desmond Bryant (DL Raiders), Israel Idonijie (DL Bears), Vance Walker (DL Falcons), Brad Jones (LB Packers); Offense: Chris Ivory (RB Saints), Geoff Schwartz (G Vikings), Fernando Velasco (C Titans), Brandon Gibson (R Rams) Bill Polian also listed approximate 100 or so FA's and tiered them A-B-C. Very Interesting read http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8891791/2013-nfl-free-agency-bill-polian-ranks-top-free-agents-tier?addata=2009_insdr_mod_nfl_xxx_xxx
  11. Bills are supposedly approaching Fitz to restructure his deal. Good move because he will be a cap hit anyway. This will free-up more cap space/money and is a good preliminary move before negotiating new deals with Levitre & Byrd & perhaps pursuing other FA's.
  12. THIS. It's also good to renegotiate Fitz so they have more for when they go to re-sign Byrd & Levitre.
  13. Burned twice in SB XLV Agree the Niners will be back next year. However most "experts" have said they need to fix the secondary to step up.
  14. Don't bring him back. He's burned the bridge and as many of you have pointed out, he's not that good. OBD knew it then and let him go when they didn't really have anyone to step in (until the draft).
  15. Yeah & we took Hunter BEFORE Kelly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. The Bills gotta win one of these SB's so we don't have to revist those 4 sad bites at the apple every! - single! - year!!
  17. 34 or 43? Who cares!! Please just find us some guys that can stop the run and get off the field after 3rd down!!
  18. I agree we need 2 new QB's in addition to Fitz - and let them battle for the job. I'm thinking the Bills agree and will have Fitz, Tavaris Jackson and a draft pick - unless they see another FA that they can get or if the Eagles release Vick - but I'm wondering if the Chip Kelly/ Eagles want to keep him now. FA's - slim pickins - TJ looks like the best of the lot. (No way Flacco makes it to FA - otherwise I'd be OK with picking him up! ) Joe Flacco (BAL), Jason Campbell (CHI), Tarvaris Jackson (BUF), Matt Moore (MIA), Drew Stanton (IND), Seneca Wallace (FA)
  19. I would LOVE it if they hired Madden!!!! (sarcasm)
  20. Maybe Callahan was panicked - after all Gruden was coaching the Raiders the year before and was now with the Bucs - maybe Callahan thought/knew Gruden had some insight into the Raider attack so he felt he had to change the gameplan. This also lends a plausible explanation as to why their starting All-Pro Center, Barrett Robbins, went AWOL the night before the game - Mike Golic said Robbins pleaded with Callahan not to change the gameplan because he wouldn't be have enough ttime to install new line calls for the offensive line. Very intriguing.
