100% agree. Who knows how it will pan out. I know not all of these guys will be worth 11th overall when it is said and done, but right now I see Orakpo, Brown, Hardy, and Johnson at DE, plus Curry, Maleuga, Spikes, and Cushing at LB. Thats 8 guys right there I wouldn't mind the Bills taking as of today. In April more than half will be on the board. We will end up with the opportunity to take a top player to fill a top need. (TE and C are needs but not at 11)

so he is a WR. Why is he being compared to Coffman, who is a TE? Kinda reminds me of Jordy Nelson...

Both of those come back to good defenses. If you have a good D, you force a lot of third and longs and can hold. You also force a lot of turnovers. Having a top D will do that for you. Pitt, Balt, Tenn, G Men I think were all top 5 D. Eagles got in playing good D at the end of the year and into the playoffs. The Cards are the only team without a top D. Then again, the best defense is a good offense, and most those teams can run the ball also.

2009 draft- how great would this be
High Mark replied to mjohns85's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont see how Johnson does not fit our scheme. He is pretty much a prototypical 4-3 end. Add 20 lbs of muscle and he is a physical twin to Peppers and Mario Williams. That being said, I dont think he is as good as Brown. Brown looks likes and plays like Freeny. Similar size and skill set. However in college Johnson has played both right and left end, and I think he could in the pros as well. Brown I feel would never line up on the left side. Secondly, Drafting Mack and Coffman 2-3 is a pipedream. We can pobably count on getting one of those guys in the second, but both will be gone by the third. I think best chances of filling those holes are 1-DE, 2-TE (Coffman or Pettigrew) 3- Best C left, maybe needing to trade back into the 2nd to make sure. I would be fine with that considering it would cost a 4th or 5th. -
Prediction: Brandon Spikes will be drafted ahead of Maleuga. And Aaron Maybin is not declaring for the draft.

But if he is a TE, he wont end up in the hospital? I didnt know QBs were fragil because of their position alone....

I think its funny that all the white people on here (which I will assume as the crowd at the Ralph is about 95% white) are taking such offence to the N word. You cannot be offended if you are not black. If you are black, you probably don’t mind, as you use the word to describe family and friends. So lets just blow this out of per portion some more.

I dont like the idea of paying big bucks to the OL in free agency -- Dockery, Walker -- when you can draft one early, plug him in, and he can play at a Probowl level -- Joe Thomas, Ryan Clady, Marcus McNiel, Jake Long -- Those are all LTs, a much harder position to excell at than center, but they are great players with 3 years or less experience. Simply Draft the best center we can in the second, and I think our problem is solved. But then again, this is the Bills scouting department here....
-
HAHAHA Have you seen the guy play? He is MUCH better than Orakpo. He wont have the combine show-off that Orakpo will, but I am willing to bet he gets drafted before him either way.
-
You mean a white one? Lets draft Coffman But honestly Pettigrew is a the best TE, even though he allegedly beat up that cop....

Let's hope the Bills finish 4-12 or worse in 2009
High Mark replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Realistically, 4-12 sure looks like a likely record for the Bills next year. I am rooting for a 16-0 season, and a Superbowl -- But does it make me less of a fan if I am realistic about it and admit we will probly finish 4-12 +/- a win? FirstGoal -- You may just get your wish.... -
I hate Josh Freeman. After the combine he will become this years Jamarcus Russell and be taken very early, while proving nothing on the football field to deserve such a selection. He will be gone on Day one. I love Chase Daniels however, I dont mind if he is 6 foot, so is Drew Brees.
-
Not the best blocker. Pettigrew can block.
-
Maleuga if just another LB who exells in run stuffing, and is average in pass coverage (although still better than our guys most likely). We need a guy who can cover in my opinion.
-
He is a stud, but will not be a stud for the Bills, is he declaring for the NFL Draft?
-
I always loved Jim Leonard. Didnt he lead our team in interceptions last year? I never figured out how he didnt play more. Seems to be jsut another case of the Bills coaching staff not being able to evaluate talent till it hits them in the face (F. Jackson). Hell even Coy Wire was a starting LB for Atlanta this year. Wait, dont we need help at LB and S....go figure.

3rd and 2, up three, at your own 7

I jsut posted the same tpoic. Shotgun 5 wide is never a good idea... is there a way to delete my thread? -
Five wide shotgun on short yardage is still a bad idea If you missed it, the Colts, with a 3rd and 1 or 2 and right before the 2 min warning, came out in shotgun five wide, and Manning was sacked at his own one. I dont see the Colts getting stopped if manning was under center and there was a threat of run or pass. Now they are most certainly going to lose.

the 2 big factors that will determine success next season
High Mark replied to Fewell733's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hello Captain Obvious -
I think some of his "perfect situation" is going to be the roster. Not just what playmakers/QB they may have, but the Oline. Shanahan needs so mobile lineman to run his O, and it wont really work if he doesnt have them. Our big slow O line would look terrible trying to run some of those schemes. I dont think he will want to overhaul the O line.

Chase Coffman for TE. 2nd or 3rd round.
High Mark replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
St. Louie... I guess a great arm to me is adequate Arm strength and great accuracy, not a cannon arm with quesionable accuracy (see Losman). But yes, I agree with what you say. I also like how Coffman has made an impact every year he has been in college. Freshman All American, All American this year... He can make an impact right away. -
Schobel wasn't himself before the injury, what makes the Bills think he will be ok after it? In my opinion, the Bills need to invest in 2 more DE's, while really looking at the guys we already have. Denny is good for his pay. Kelsay needs to go to free up money. Schobel can stay if he takes a pay cut, his 7+ Mil a year is jsut oo much for him. If he accepts a paycut, and we relieve Kelsay, that should allow us to pursue a guy like Suggs without hurting our cap situation much.
