  1. With Wanny's system being based on the principal of each player has to win his individual battle then on paper this D looks good. Wanny 4-3 stresses that Dlineman must win their individual match ups against Olineman. The Bills now have about 6-7 Dlineman that are good-great. These guys will help the Lb's look better then last year. I always think about Ray Lewis when people talk about Lbs'. Lewis is argueably one of the greatest LBs' of all time. If you remember he has enjoyed his greatest success when he had a good Dline and specifically a big guy in fron tof him eating up two olineman. Goose and then later Ngata.
  2. Scott may have been a CB in the Nickel, but he is a safety not a cb. Not really trying to argue symantics. I really do not believe with the Bills front line blitzing will be necessary. I am sorry, but the Bills spent a lot of money on the Dline not just with Mario and Anderson this year, but also Williams Dareus and Kelsay. Throw Merriman in there and those guys are going to be asked to get pressure. So it takes me back to my original point, a good blitzing corner is not something this team needs to use one of the 53 men spots. And McKelvin being 0/2 is not surprising, was it the Raiders game? He probably tackled the ref...i mean they do wear black and white(looks kinda like black and silver). having said all that, it is good to have you here. i enjoy the discussions
  3. You are sure of that?? I do not remember seeing one from our CB's last year. I am sure someone can provide footage? I remember Wilson on some. But he was at safety. My point is lets say the Bills blitz the CB 5x an entire year. Colemen does not sound any better to me then what we have already on our roster for coverage. So he would be a waste of a spot on the roster. In fact the young guys could prove to be much better cover men then Colemen, but their playing time hampered by his presence. So i say no thanks to him. Let stick with what we have.
  4. Great analysis on CB blitzing. Is this the main reason you think Coleman would be a good fit? I ask because a few months back a poster here put up a comprehensive playbook for the 4-3 as written by Wanny. Very good read. His interpretation and thus version relies on your front four causing pressure. He does not really consider Blitzing a necessary device. For this reason i do not think a DB who is a specialist in blitzing is worth it. We have good young guys that need some time to grow. We have a vet in McGee to provide leadership, and McKelvin who has the speed and talent. McKelvin to this point has lacked the discipline to be the shutdown corner the bills hoped for,
  5. Brooks looks like he could be a monster on coverage teams. Guy has a knack for getting to the ball. I would be surprised if he is not the gunner on punt coverage come opening day.
  6. It sound slike you described Ron Brooks in your initial evaluation OP. And to be honest the Bills have a glut on CB right now. Wanny's 4-3 does not call for many cb blitzes. The only position i would like to hear about pickin gup right now is LB. I think that is still a bit of a 'weak' area. Or if Brees can not get a deal done! lol
  7. No argueing any of those points I agree that this is Fitzs' year to put up or shut up. Barring a major injury bug(the Bills are due for a minor injury season), then Fitz is the biggest question. He needs to show he can be consitant, not only for the year, but also durring a single game. Honestly if he threw for 3000yds and 24 td's but limited his int. to 12, this team is on its way to the playoffs.
  8. So Ralph isn't cheap? All kidding aside, the original poster is correct. The Bills do have an upgrade of talent at many positions. Before the Bills were maybe overpaying some for guys that were fringe starters. It seems that the culture is changin gin Buffalo. A winning season and playoff birth will help with that too. Could you imagine if in a year or two Buffalo is playing Detroit in the SB? Ha
  9. So maybe he will be helping McKelvin understand the defensive approach each week? Joking Seriously, the guy seems to have 'a nose for the ball' which is what you need as a db. Combine that with his speed and he plays bigger then his size. I mean, he knows how to deliver a hit. If nothing else, i think we may have the next Tasker...
  10. He did make some plays no one can argue that point. But he also had som euntimely penalties and gave up some bigger plays. If McGee stays healthy he is a much more consistant CB then Florence. And with McGee's team friendly contract incase of injury, the writing was on the wall. McKelvin has all the talent, but has displayed little mental apptitude thus far. The staff and front office is hoping this is the year McKelvin puts it together, and they use him for one more year. Florence was for the most part a classy guy. He was smart enough to realize his age is robbing him of talent and thus needs to step up his presence as being a positive leader. I wish him well and i am sure he will be on another team by the end of the month.
  11. Great analysis. I do agree for the most part. So lets say Buffalo goes out and has a solid year 9-7 or even 10-6, but miss playoffs. And the one thing you canpoint your finger at is QB play was lacking. Next draft you mortgage the hilt and go get your guy. Send two first's and a second and jump up and get one of the two best QB's coming out. My point is i think right now QB is the biggest question mark on this team. Could be ok, but also could stand for an improvement. Fitz showed he was capable for stretches at a time, but others he left us scratching our head. Now some believe that was due to injuries to himself and others on the team. Lets see what this year brings. If Fitz is healthy and so is his line and wr's(for the most part), then it is aput up or shut up year for him.
  12. Oh the days before Twitter where so less complicated. I mean really, this sounds childish on both parts. I have met Talley many times. My grandfather worked for the Bills in the 70's and 80's. Talley was always one of the nicest most humble guys on the team. He was the calming effect on that D for sure, and maybe the entire team. This is not something i would expect from him at all. having said all that, it will come down to Chan seeing how much Young knows/handles mentally. Physically the guy is in his prime. Heck i would also ask for a phsyic test done if they are worried about it.
  13. Young could be the Wildcat guy that see's 5-10 snaps a game, and is also insurance if Fitz went down. If you think he i snot better then Pigpen, you are severally misguided. The only thing i would worry about is a 'controversy' with fans if Fitz had a bad game or two. Buffalo is a very loyal fan base, but even Reich at times was called to play ahead of Kelly. All in all i would leav eit up to Chan grilling him and seeing how well he can understand terminology. If Buddy and Chan think it is a good fit, and Young is willing to accept where he is in his career- a backup- then i am for it.
  14. Guy had 68 receptions for 947 yds and 5 t.ds. was not injured at all last year, played in every game. He had an almost 14ypc. Turns 32 during the season, but so what, wr is a position you can be productive at well into your 30's. 6'2 200lbs. Been in th eleague for 10years. Not really sure about his attitude, seems he is miffed he had to give up his number to RGIII and he was not going to be a starter.
  15. Here is the thing about 2010 draft. Buddy was hired when? jan 3 2010, i believe. College season was over. buddy had no control how or where the scouts spent time scouting. This is one important fact you overlook. Yes Buddy was GM during the 2010 draft, but he had to largely go by what the old regimes scouts had focused on. I would summise that since then Buddy has directed and dispatched his scouts to where he wanted them to focus their attention. Thus you have seen the focus of the draft move towards Southern Programs and in particular the SEC and ACC to a bit lesser extent. Just my two cents. As far as him being largely involved in the scouting, he was one for the South. But again he took office 3 1/2 months before the draft. All i ask you is have you not seen a pattern emerging since Buddy has been entrenched and had time to develope the staff? Is it not one you agree with now? Unless you are Modrak or like him for some reason, why are you trying to make this arguement now? It would have been valid after the 2010 draft, but Buddy has proven where and what he like in two suppliment drafts.
  16. He brings up some great points- Not trading up and thus away future picks. Glenn was taken in the second, which means there is some question about him. If there was not he would have gone in the first most likely. Now i am one who thinks Glenn can be a starting LT in this league. He said he can drop 15-20lbs and thus play around 330. The Bills have built a D in one off season to stop the Pats. Strong pass rushers were brought in thru FA. Then they got argueably the best corner or atleast 1B. They got a LB that is big and physical in the fourth, that can also cover. Buddy and Chan and Wanny have a plan. Lets win our division first. This means we have to beat the Pats. And how do you beat the Pats, put pressure on Brady with your front four, and have guys that can cover their TE's. Personally i like the approach, set realistic goals. You beat New england last year finally. You proved it can be done. Now you have a team with more depth then it has had in maybe 15 years. So when the injuries mount up, and they will, there shoould not be a huge drop off in talent.
  17. I like Gilmore a lot. I also think Brooks is gonna be a player. Between these two and A. Williams from last year, we should have some studs in the defensive backfield.
  18. barring a horrible camp, i think he is a lock. He will be your gunner on coverages. He also showed great skills. If he played anywhere else then LSU, he would have been a starter. And i mean even Alabama. Good point about keeping a vet around. I do think one of the two goes between McGee and Florence. McKelvin would probably not get you much more then a 5th or sixth.
  19. Nix was hired because even Ralph Wilson noticed a trend, SEC and Southern Schools in general are playing for the NC and winning it pretty much every year. Wilson went out and got a guy who knew the south like the back of his hand. I am sorry for you guys who do not want to accept it, but right now the south is far superior to north or west. Its just a fact. If you want to win the NC you have to go thru the SEC. As Ohio State found out, that is easier said then done. The other confrences do have some good players, but by far the level of competition is tougher in the south and particularly the SEC. If you can play well in that confrence your talents will translate better to the NFL- Big and fast.
  20. Better not talk about how much the defense had been overhauled, there is one poster here who likes to say Buddy has done nothing. I do like this defense on paper way more then last years. Its gonna take a minute for them to jell, but the fact they have an entire offeason this year should help greatly. I think that's one of the reasons the Eagles struggled last year...not enough time to come together.
  21. This guy has the attitude to take him as far as his ability will let him.
  22. Bills got the LB they wanted in the fourth rd you got to think. I mean, they went back after last night and re-evaluated their board and who was left. Since no LB were drafted yet, they got the best on their board. Guy sounds very good physically. Best in the forty and vertical for his position at the combine. Weakness is he needs to learn to read between run and pass better. Wanny will love working with this kid.
  23. I got a feeling Baltimore will pick him in the 4th with their comp pick. Ray Lewis will probably make a similar phone call. Ravens love mean athletic LBs. Lewis can pull him in under his wing. Not sure about Barnett, maybe.
  24. I use to hate one on one drills like that. As a tackle or any o lineman you are at a great disadvantage when the defender knows he has only one task. That being said good catch, and nice to see Glenn held his own. Personally i think he shed's 15-20 lbs by training camp and we got ourselves a LT that will be a stud for years.
  25. I get TJ is not 6'2 220lbs, but he is 5'11 188. Thats not tiny by any means. He has 3 inches and 10 lbs on Welker, for comparison. TJ is also bigger then DeSean Jackson, but with similar skill set. Now i am not trying to say TJ will be as good as either those two excellent players, but i am saying that telling me TJ is tiny and can not succeed is a false statement.
