As i stated most all teams use there top 2 recieving options well over 80% of the time. We use multiple formations in game. I get that, if I still had a nfl+ account id take the time to make a deeper dive into this to see what percentage of each formation is used but when I see Samuel gets 34 snaps in game, id say alot of those(not all) are at the expense of having Shakir out there

Because that counting all snaps even when players are injured. Example AJ Brown was out 3 weeks in 2024. All those snaps in those games bring his snap count down.

People are seeing the same issues that have plagued McDermott for years and that is why they are panicking. With that being said… It’s really no different from the last time the Bills played the Patriots except the Bills lost by 3 instead of won by 3. Drake Maye methodically carved up the defense through the air and also ran for key 1st downs just like the last game. Defense had a hard time wrapping him up. This must be a taste of what it’s like to be on the other side. I get why people are freaking out, but I think it’s a little overblown for a couple reasons. 1) It’s a divisional game. Patriots knew Buffalo’s tendencies very well. Their defense is constructed to take down the top dog which is us. Not Miami. Players drafted specifically because of how they might play Josh Allen. We’ve seen great teams lose division games before that they had no business losing. How many times has Brady played poorly against the lowly Jets? 2) Injuries. I know this excuse gets tired, but it’s still a valid one. The defense you saw on Sunday will not be the one you see in the playoffs or even in several weeks. Tre White has been decent and it’s commendable that he is still on a roster after his previous injuries, but it’s clear he isn’t starting caliber anymore. Rookie or not, Hairston should be a major upgrade whenever he comes back. Ed Oliver is also a core player who is greatly missed. 3) Mike Vrabel. People are acting like he is the Second Coming of Bill Bellichick. What has this guy really done AS A COACH in the NFL? Had a strong start in Nashville, but never saw the success of his rookie year ever again. Got smoked in the 1st round of the playoffs every time since despite having a great defense, a HOF RB, and AJ Brown. Why are people so quick to crown him over McDermott?

Fans should absolutely analyse parts of the team that are and are not looking good. I think that is slightly different than catastrophising doom and there has been an element of that the past few days. Just the same as the team wasn't bound for the Superbowl at 4-0 the sky is also not falling at 4-1. What is the most frustrating element of this season for me so far is the two things that were major weaknesses on last year's roster - the secondary (save for Benford last year and right now he is not playing well) and the outside receivers - are exactly the same this year. They get a bit of a mulligan on the secondary with regards to their first round pick being hurt, however.... the two worst position groups on last year's roster - safety and receiver were largely ignored. I don't think we were ever losing to the Saints or Dolphins personally, they just weren't talented enough to make the Bills pay for sleepwalking through those games at different points. The Patriots are a better team than both of them though. They will be a playoff contender - an 8 to 10 win team.... and they were talented enough to make an underwhelming Bills team that made major mistakes pay. Atlanta this week are in a similar bracket for me. A borderline playoff type team who if the Bills don't play well and execute in key moments can catch them out. Let's hope the performance is better.

Sometimes change is necessary for its own sake. McD is a good guy and Pegs likes him. Had #17 for 8 years. Tick tick. If the team doesn’t make it passed AFCC, it’s time for a change.

It depends how far he traded back. Considering Ja'Lynn Polk, who was considered to go much later than Coleman as an Outside WR prospect, was reached for just 4 Picks after we took him (and has already been traded away for a bag of balls) - I think the idea that we could have waited on Coleman is inaccurate. It's been said they settled on Polk bc they missed out on Coleman. And the other Top 3 Outside WR's left - Adonai Mitchell, Troy Franklin, and Jermaine Burton, all had red flags that caused them to heavily slip down boards. On the Ladd or Cooper note - I've beaten this horse to death, both Pre-Draft and Post-Draft to this day, but Ladd wasn't compatible for us. We didn't need guys who were Slots. McConkey works out of the Slot even as much as 50% of snaps. We had that covered with Khalil Shakir, Dalton Kincaid, and Curtis Samuel. But we had nothing (besides Mack Hollins) to replace Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis on the Outside. And as I said in the post, Coleman has better numbers than McConkey thus far this season anyways. Hard to argue against the idea of taking Cooper DeJean instead of Keon Coleman with hindsight, especially seeing the position we're in at CB right now. But at the time, we didn't know Douglas was going to hit a wall and as I said, we had a *glaring hole* at Outside WR. And when you consider the Draft red flags with Mitchell, Burton, and Franklin - the pickings were incredibly slim at that point.

I’ve asked for a couple yrs and nobody has come up with anything. Snow angels aside…Has McD put any uniqueness or any positive fingerprint on any part of this team? Serious ask.

It worked beautifully against Detroit last year. I think Ray Davis had over 100 yards receiving that game. The Bills biggest strength (obv other than Allen) are the athletic linemen, Tight Ends, and RBs. I would’ve loved to see Ty Johnson and Davis used more in the passing game. With that said, I don’t think the Bills lose if they didn’t uncharacteristically turn the ball over. As much as a change in scheme is needed, protecting the ball is the #1 priority and can’t keep happening. You get your best player the ball any way you can. Everyone eats, but certain guys should get bigger portions than others.

I am sure that plays a part.

I could be wrong but I bet it has something do with soft coverage as well. Giving opposing pass catchers big cushions allows QBs to get the ball out quickly on short passes. Pass rush has less time to get home.

I'm not panicking at all. We weren't going to go undefeated. I do have concerns over this defense and our offense as well though.

Outside of that 51 yard catch and run in week 1 Cook is averaging an abysmal 3.5 yards per reception. Brady needs to find a way to make Cook an actual weapon in the passing game before he starts getting more targets.

Let’s hope Ed, Hoecht and Larry can actually tackle and don’t have butter fingers like the rest of the D, because all the pressure in the world doesn’t mean anything when they completely miss the tackles what seems like about 90% of the time

The Bills have been very good at getting pressure. They just have difficulty finishing it off and getting it home. They are also bad at losing edge contain.

I always want to strangle Coach McDermott when he starts calling defensive time outs with less than a minute left in the 1st half. It gives the QB time to talk to the coach. Guys get a blow and a drink of water. And what happens is they score with 10 seconds left and we don't have time to do anything anyway. This is not the 1st time this has happened. I'd prefer for the other team to feel the pressure of the clock. Have to run up and spike it. Make them call their own timeouts. Especially with a young QB. Seems like we're helping them by calling timeouts.

They should be letting him run more actual routes like he did at Georgia. Sick of watching him have to stay in to block for a few seconds before leaking out, catching a pass, and barely having a chance to blink before getting hit.

For me it is not about this loss. I expect to get losses and this one doesn't bother me. This isn't the first game that I suddenly thought about this. It's just the first time I posted my thoughts about it in a thread I created. Thank you. Exactly.

I disagree that it’s a panic, I think a few people had legitimate concerns before the game as in another dimension we could have been 1-3 going into the pats game. The ravens win was a once in a lifetime miracle, and we were a brainless blocked punt penalty away from possibly losing to both the dolphins and the saints. A loss had been coming, it was just doubly frustrating that it came to the pats and Diggs

Brady would rather run Jet Sweeps with Knox or run into stacked boxes on 2nd and 1 then to throw the ball to Cook and get him in space. Joe Brady is a major problem IMO
